I saw "The Reader" before Kate Winslet won the Oscar and I thought it was utterly brilliant.
It's such a powerful film and the way she relentlessly works to hide "her secret" is just brilliant.
For those who have seen it; did you like it? And do you think Kate deserved the Oscar for it?
I certainly did!![]()

i just finished watching changeling.. i have seen some heavy films but for some reason this one really got to me. i found it quite disturbing, far more than i anticipated, and actually really difficult to watch in several parts.. i was literally cringing and covering my face as i watched it.![]()
it's difficult to believe it is a true story. it's disgusting what people can do.. horrifying really.. i thought angelina and all the cast did a very good job.. the story seems too wild to be true but the acting was very believable i thought..
watching her in the psych. ward was particularly difficult.. in all her roles she somehow taps into an extraordinary rage or passion or something deep within, some sort of pulse that connects us all.. a mighty heart, girl interrupted and now this.. there is something so raw about her emotion, it goes deeper than acting i think.. you can tell how honest and real the feeling is for her..
anyway, it's hard to say i liked the film because i found it so hard to watch and to accept, it was so upsetting.. but the acting was very, very well done![]()
I saw Gran Torino, very moving. It's funny at the beginning : he seems so racist that I just couldn't believe it ! And he becomes more and more nice and tolerant with the contact of people from Asia ...
It's a beautiful movie, I think.
I loved that movie too. There's this misterious vibe that you feel all the time, there's something going on. This club of high society, a code, a secret, a murder. All ingredients to make a movie exciting. Kubrick was known as a brilliant filmmaker and a demanding director.. close to perfectionism, who only worked with the best. The cinematographer of the movie was Larry Smith, who also worked on several film with Kubrick.I saw Eyes Wide Shut last night. Something about that movie had me so mesmerized, I don't know. I guess it was Kubrick's directing? The movie also gave me a haunting effect, I wasn't sure whether to be afraid or turned on by all the stuff going on in that house...![]()
