The MAC Makeup Thread #2

Thanks guys! I guess I'll just have to head down to MAC and try it on. I'm looking for something purple-greyish for everyday...something easy that you can just slap on. I'm kinda sick of brown and bronze colours at the moment, and I want to try something different.

Hey guys I have a question for you. I'm flying through Hong Kong Airport and was wondering if anyone knew what the prices were like there comparing to here in Australia?

i think the quite cute collection is righ up my alley. finally! its been almost a year since i last bought something from a mac LE collection.

Experience has taught me that lavender lips are not a good idea  I'll have to check out the nail polish.

I have Shale & haven't worn it yet. I'll have to break it out & try it. I have golden brown eyes and pink skin, and pretty much all purples work well on me. Purple and silver are supposed to be good on brown eyes I was reading lately ... I wear both often. Dovefeather is a purplish taupe that is pretty much my favorite eyeshadow (discontinued), and Shale seemed quite similar on my hand ... will try to wear it tomorrow.

Oh, that quite cute collection has waken up the little girl inside me. I hope they brought them to here, too. I want at least one of those lipglosses

The Quite Cute collection reminds me a lot of the Sugarsweet collection of 2009 in terms of colors.

Wore Shale + Mylar today ... I quite like Shale. The pigmentation is perfect for someone with pale skin. It's Satin like Shroom, so easy to work with. It's less purple and more grey than Dovefeather. I don't like it as well, but hey--it's in production.

I'm kind of bummed by the Quite Cute eyeshadow quad. I was able to play with a friend's promo of it and the shadows weren't as pigmented as MAC shadows usually are. I had the same issue with the Tartan Tale shadows though.

does anybody have an opinion on the new Careblend powder vs. MSFN?

Yesterday I was trying on Chanel lipsticks and fell in love with Rouge Allure #65. And wonder if there was a MAC shade that could be similar?

Nevermind, I found it. The closest would be Impassioned.

I've golden brown eyes too, with a little bit of green. And I've heard the same thing about purple & silver. It actually makes my eyes...shine? and it also brings the green out. Are there any other mac-eyeshadows you'd recommend?

 Let me get this right...you didn't like Shale?

^ As I said ... I like Shale, but not as well as Dovefeather.

I like Idol Eyes for silver, and Poison Pen is a good purple ...

I realized when I was putting my makeup on this morning that Dovefeather and Cool Reserve (polish) are pretty much exactly the same color.

I've never used MAC before and I was wondering if someone could help me out!

I don't use foundation so I'm looking for a pressed powder that has some pigmentation/coverage but not too much. If I have a blemish that's red enough to stand out I can put a little concealer on it and it's usually fine.

my worst flaw is oilyness (so if you know of a good mattefying primer that would help too).

I found these and I was wondering if they were good choices or if you guys had some better suggestions:

and this sounds awesome but so expensive for only 1oz:

^For a primer you can definitely use something cheaper, any silicone based primer would do the job just fine, unless you're allergic to the silicone. Smashbox Primer is still my no1 choice but there are hundreds available from different brands and much cheaper.
From the powders you mentioned the only one that provides some coverage is the Mineralize one. It's not ideal for very oily skin though because before you know it the dewy effect turns greasy in no time in my face :(
The others are supposed to be transparent, just to set the liquid foundation you'd have applied beforehand. You could go with the Studio Fix Powder Foundation for more coverage but its finish is kinda chalky for me to be honest. You should give it a try though!
Through a lot of trial and error I now only use the powder foundations from Clinique or Estee Lauder, which are the only ones that don't slide from my face in 1 hour :D (I have a very oily complexion).

^ I agree that unfortunately MAC's foundations and concealers are a weak point. I love Blot Powder Light, but wear it over foundation/concealer from other lines. Personally I like Make Up Forever, which is known for foundation, and Cle de Peau for concealer (on many best lists). MAC is strong for color products.
