When you are seeing a new agency, if you have a book or not, its best NOT to go on open call. Try to get a personal introduction with someone with a good working relationship. Even if they don't pick you up they will likely point you in a good direction.

How do u arrange that? Do you just make an appointment?

Assuming you have a connection (ie. Friend represented, employee, or client/friend). Then you and your connect go at a good time for the booker (yes, appointment). Make sure your prepaired. You don't want to make your hook-up look bad B)

In New York agents are equally concerned with someones ability to be responsible as they are about how they come across on film. Work ethic is becoming increasingly important in this, global, highly competitive, saturated market.

However I'm jaded after 10 years of being in the industry... Perhaps lisening to me is a bad idea. There is nothing wrong with open call... Additionally there is nothing wrong with having an edge B)

Yes but showing up to open call doesn't say that someone is irresponsible. Most people who come into open call don't make it to the board, but that's not because we have a prejudice against open call people. It's because they're not model types. You can never tell if someone is irresponsible until you start developing them. Just show up fresh, no makeup, with a skirt and heals and clean hair.

In the past you all have mentioned Kim Dawson in Dallas for people in Texas but I particularly live in Houston; is there any agency there?!

I've been scouted about 3-4 times by some "agencies" that i felt were all SO shady,so i never went through with it...i dont know how far i would get, but i certainly want to try.

soo..help with anything in Houston, TX?!?!

^Yea they were one of the ones that scouted me actually...but the website you gave me looks totally different. I remember it was like different shades of purple circles and stuff on the website...unless they've changed it, there's a Neal Hamil poser out there.

Nevertheless, i went in to meet with them and she wanted me, but she also said I would have to do a workshop-school type thing---coming in twice a week and paying like a total of around $4000. and wanted it all up front. I remember being told to never go with an 'agency' that asks for money up front sooo i declined their offer. Though it seemed legit cause i saw all these people and girls running around...

So anyway, 'A la mode,' that agency of the link you gave me is legit?!?!

Legit? I don't know for sure. I mean it looks like they represent successful working models, but it also looks like represent ALOT of people.

1 Management, IMG, DNA, Marilyn, Women/Supreme, Next, Elite, Vision, Trump, MC2, Major, New York Models, Wilhelmina, Click, ID, Ford

Many good agencies have gone through periods of "issues". Its not to say they don't pull it back together. Lets just say, "Now is not their time" B)

Try to stay as close to the top of the list I posted as possible. Given were rather elitist round here... There are some other small good agencies, few with rockstars.
