The New Gothic / Neogoth

does anyone know who that cutlery is by in the style.com post...?

Now that Halloween is approaching, I'm more excited about capes and fake blood(-stained lips) than ever. (And I do enjoy paying a year-round tribute...) The listless stare I assume when passing Halloween displays is an obvious warning sign... I am unfortunately very critical, though, and I can't eye a Dracula costume without thinking Bela Lugosi would never wear that style sans a higher collar and/or wider lapels..!

I think Bobbi Brown's new Chocolate Cherry (limited edition) nail polish is absolutely perfect for this look.

The Fifth Avenue windows of the Bergdorf Goodman department store in Midtown Manhattan present a gothic fantasyland filled with spider webs, animal skulls and gargoyles.

At Bergdorf Goodman, owned by the Neiman Marcus Group, the windows reflect the growing cultural influence of “a goth spirit, an outsider sensibility that is becoming more mainstream,” said Linda Fargo, senior vice president for store presentation. “It’s more about the beautiful side of the darker world,” she added, “not gory or cheap-trick thrills.” The windows were designed by Douglas Little in collaboration with House & Garden magazine, part of Condé Nast Publications. They will be on display through next Friday.

part of me feels bad for all the people who have been doing this sort of thing all along and have been horibly misunderstood for years...

only to have all the same people who ostracized or even made fun of them, embrace this style now and sort of usurp their world...

*but the rest of me is just happy to see so many beautiful things that appeal to me on a personal level...

:p...
guess i'm just selfish that way!...

My torch still burns for the New Romantics and old-school Goth, a combination which I think results in "New Goth" almost more than linguistically, but then I'm prone to living in the past... Still, if one infuses that from the originating movement with the New Romantics' Victorian and obviously romantic influences, I stand by the opinion that enough similarities will arise to at least draw influence (if not inspire wonder).:heart:

jennifer---so funny you say that---
i have thought the very same myself...

good to know i'm not alone...:p

I like this to some point...

Many times it looks too dramatical on the runway, but usually I learn to love these collections.

What bugs me about this trend is that it somehow seems to be associated with black clothing in general. Dressing in mostly black clothes is not gothic.

I think it is the Victorian vibe I like in this.

oh jennifer, if only i could borrow your vocabulary for a day^_^
this thread was my main refuge last year and still evokes interest.
thanks for keeping it alive with pictures, dosviolines!
