Jennifer Hudson's dress looks OK in pictures but onscreen I thought it was awful. It was too tight in the back, so skin and fat were spilling out of the cut-out and the bust looked awkward and unflattering. She usually looks great so I don't know why she's failed both times at the Oscars.

Being apple shaped makes it so difficult to find attractive outfits at times. Either way, cardigans are my friends :) It seems that everything is catered to pear shapes in fashion.

I'm so with you!!! :( :flower:

Jennifer's dress is gorgeous, but the fit is just not right. Too bad, she's lovely.

I liked the colour on Jennifer and the snakeskin was interesting. I'm not too happy with what it seems to do to her boobular area, but it's not as bad as some outfits.

Update:

Jill Scott will be the "curvy" profile, I guess, in Vogue's Shape Issue. I was just on her site and it was posted that she will be in the April issue. I have mixed feelings about the Shape Issue. What interests me is that I think they are running out of people to profile -- I suspect Mo'Nique is not mainstream enough for them (and is probably too size-positive for them), and also people like Roseanne Barr and Rosie O'Donnell are a bit too tabloid-tainted, I guess.

Jill's editorial is going to be in the Vogue with the infamous LeBron James and Gisele cover.

JHud's not wearing a bra, which is the main prob with that Oscars dress. C'mon girl, you're young now but you WILL get older...and you'll wish then you'd used a bra more often now.

That first dress Beth is in (orange/pink) was a Luella number. I rather liked it - more so than the Julian MacDonald but then I think that guy is a trashy version of Matthew Williamson, whose sparklies I adore.

I think the orange/pink dress is kind of cool

I've seen Marjorie in this suit before, but she looks nice and Cyrus is cute in his sort of lawn-green sweater.

Just wanted to mention I liked the Jill Scott article in Vogue's shape issue. In it she mentions that her size is "about 16." I suppose that means 16W  I believe she was wearing the same Herrera dress that Marjorie wore not long ago ... It's a fun article, she clearly loves her some shoes :p

Proportionally, she looks to be a 16W or so. It was a good article with nice pictures.

Well how tall is she? You can't make an accurate guess about size without knowing the height as well. People tell me I look like a 6 in photos by myself, but I'm a 16! Having/lacking height plays tricks on the eyes...

I have to say, the article was okay but tagging DvF dresses and all sorts of other non-size 16 making designers to the article annoyed the heck out of me. If it's about Jill getting free clothes then whateves but seriously...

^ Thanks for mentioning that, I was wondering ... I wasn't certain what sizes DVF made, but I did notice that ... I suspect it was just their effort to gather some stuff like she wears that they could put a price to, but if that's what they were trying to do, why not show American Apparel, where apparently she can buy off the rack  The article was actually quite interesting from the perspective that it kind of demonstrates how hard it is to get plus sizes, the little boutique she goes to was custom-making her size for her, and her stylist hinted at the difficulty ... Of course, it's possible that DVF makes her size for her too ...

I don't think there's any mistaking either Jill or me for a size 6 in a photo, and I'm a 10 ;) I actually would have liked to see her be a little more upfront about sizing, because it is a real issue for so many people.

Jill's 5'6," per IMDB.com, so she's taller than the average American woman. She's got rather large breasts.

I definitely would not be surprised if Jill gets stuff custom-made because she is a celebrity and is a rising star (although those of us who like neo-soul have heard of her for years).

Of course, Queen Latifah's designer gear is custom-made, and I also read that Aretha Franklin had gowns for one of her tours earlier this decade by Valentino. If you have the $$$, you can get your stuff made. That's an advantage of having a nice bank account.

In terms of being upfront about sizing, that would have been nice but this is Vogue and Ms. Wintour is still in control after all. I have low expectations.

^ Well, I was just looking back at last year's shape issue, and the plus size model from last year was completely frank--she even took Sally Singer shopping with her & they published what fit & what didn't in which sizes. Sally was even in the dressing room as I remember she (the model) was critiquing the cut/fit of Marina Rinaldi. It also had a sidebar with information about where to find extended sizes that was really helpful information. So I felt that it was the profilee who was reticent :ninja: I understand, but it would have been nice to be as forthcoming as last year's subject.

When I go into a store that stops at 6 or 8, I say something ... it's important that they keep hearing it. Otherwise they'll think everyone's happy with the crummy selection.

That was Ashley Graham, and I have saved that article. It was very helpful, and an interesting perspective because she's a young woman (I think she's in her early 20s).

And it's funny -- I do mention sizing on shopping trips in a different manner.

For instance, I shop Banana Republic -- their XL tops, trenches and jersey dresses fit me pretty well. I'm often picked to do the online survey, which results in 20% off regular price coupons.
Every time I do it, I say extend sizes to 18 and 20, and start carrying 16s in stores. That's one (of many reasons) why I miss Forth & Towne -- I could get what I wanted in-store.
If J. Crew did surveys, I'd do the same. J. Crew is a top/sweater/shoe/accessory emporium for me, with a few dresses thrown in if the material's jersey or knit.
Even though I do speak up, I also have a practical side -- I look at a lot of places, find what works and construct a wardrobe from that.

^ BR used to carry 16s in store, and 11's in shoes as well but moved them to online only shopping which pi*ssed me off no end because shoes are not weight dependent are they?? And when you are stuck between sizes 14-16 there is no sale to be had without the 16s in store. They are part of the GAP group so it doesn't surprise me that they did this, it's in line with the whole Old Navy no-plus-instore mentality they have.
