Saks Fifth Avenue news

Saks is apparently going to offer extended/inbetweenie sizes in certain designer lines, per Racked NY:

http://ny.racked.com/archives/2010/07/26/one_style_fits_all_sizes_coming_soon_to_saks.php

Since it's only in New York, I think they are targeting affluent professional women who have disposable income. I think some people may not mind doing extended sizes because we are talking basically only one outlet. Keep that exclusivity thing going.

As per the article, a few lines only will go up as far as a size 20; my guess looking at the list will be a size 50 in Armani, Escada, DeLaRenta and possibly Chanel. Having spent a lot of time trying on various designer labels, I can tell you that D&G is cut VERY small and a 48 in that wouldn't fit a US14. On the other hand, I own a Gucci fitted jacket in a 48, works on me quite well. It's all in the individual garment, true, but some designers (the Italians) are def smaller cutting than others.

A little life in the plus thread! Good to see you, classic1908.

I'm temporarily on shopping suspension so I wouldn't be heading to my local Saks anyway, but I hope this is successful for them.

For those interested in plus-size matters, here's an article I found in the New York Times this morning that is quite interesting: Plus-Size Wars

Agree ... it really did a great job clarifying why and how plus-size bodies are different from each other. I used to shop with a friend who was kinda rectangular & not at all top-heavy, and a lot of things (as mentioned) were body-con, emphasizing cleavage, or cut for a pear, and those things didn't work on her at all. My favorite place to shop with her was Saks' Salon Z, and I thought they did a great job carrying different lines that worked for each of the plus types.

Some of my recent outfit pictures..there are closeups of accessories/shoes/etc on my blog

I know, it's been a while. I'm not on shopping suspension just yet, but I'm having to cut back a bit because things are tight at work. If I had some more disposable income, I'd buy a piece from the Saks experiment.
It makes me chuckle because I own two Oscar de la Renta pieces in 18 misses (one from Loehmann's and another from a secondhand store) and I have seen Carolina Herrera in size 18 at Saks' Off Fifth. My feeling is this: if you make it, carry it in store.

Spot-on comment. Salon Z has been a solid resource, although I usually wait until the stuff trickles down to Off Fifth. I am in media and don't make six figures.

Their vendors have changed through the years -- two of my former staple clothing lines are out of the plus bridge business (Dana Buchman and Ellen Tracy). They have Eileen Fisher, which I think is wrong for my body, which is basically pear-leaning.

I think this is my debut to this thread. One thing I've noticed as of late has been better awareness and styles for plus size fashion. I guess my favorite plus size specialist is Torrid. I do, however, think Kiyonna has some very lovely fashions as well. Those are the two designers that come to mind when I think of beautiful plus size (or extended size) fashions. I've recently come across Faith 21 and think their styles are lovely as well.

So there are a lot of lovely plus size fashion choices out there.

I didnt know Forever 21 had extended sizes. Thanks for the info John M. I will pass that along to my friends :)

I am actually glad there's more lovely fashions and choices for plus/extended size femmes. Every femme of every size should be able to look as fabulous as they like. Torrid just jumps out at me the most for their great fashions for both casual and dressy fashions. Kiyonna has some of the classiest fashions for plus/extended sizes. I recently learned of Pure Energy, the plus/extended size lineup for the Target-exclusive Xhilaration brand (or is it Mossimo?).

As for the Faith 21 deal, you're welcome CollarScholar! I'm just looking for many more different plus/extended size fashions to add to my blog that I did on plus size fashions.

UPDATE Pure Energy is its own brand, NOT a separate brand.

Those jeans would be fairly flattering, nicely high waisted, but they don't do it for me. It might be the photography. Maybe the fact that I'm really fussy and need a bit more excitement to my denim.

bump!

It has probably already been mentioned, though I only saw "body-shaper" once in this thread.. Has anyone used these? What was the brand and what was your experience?

I recently saw an infomercial on Slim n Lift
http://www.thane.ca/products/health-beauty/slimlift-comfort/slimlift-comfort.php
Was pretty amazed.. Seemed to work really well, they did a couple of before and afters where you watch the person in their normal clothes and then put this on... Plus it's made of bamboo, apparently moisture-wicking

I saw that there is another product under the name Slim n Lift but made with nylon instead of bamboo
and company selling it is called California Beauty.. Not sure if they are the same product, just an older version:ermm:
