The Vegetarian & Vegan Thread

I've been a vegetarian about 5 or 6 years ago; it was hard in high school because I was on the crew (rowing) team. I needed protein but my mom has been a vegetarian since she was 6 years old, so she knew what was best for me to eat while race season. My parents were really supportive but my grandparents don't really understand because they think I need the meat in order to be healthy and have energy. So, sometimes they worry and don't know what to cook when I come to visit.
I doubt I will ever go back to eating meat; I didn't like it when I ate it and I really don't like it now. I also try to avoid wearing furs, leather, silk, etc.
Being a vegetarian was more of a "moral" decision (as in, I personally don't feel content with myself by eating meat) that I don't regret.
I go to PETA for recipies frequently, it's a great website.
Also, it's highly important to take your vitamins!

i'm not really a vegetarian/vegan cause i eat some chicken, red meat and tuna. but not a really big amount per week. the thing is that i chaned my whole eating habits cause i wanted to loose wight, so i cut diary and big portions of meat. most of the times i eat only veggies, but i don't wanna get tired of them so i'm looking for new recipies..
can you vegans share your diets? or do you know any good site were i can get vegetarian recipies? :flower:

I've been semi-vegetarian for several years but never took any vitamin supplements...I should really talk to my doctor about it, but what generally are vitamins that veggies need to take?

Does anyone ever have dreams about eating meat? I have a semi-recurring dream where I eat a bunch of hotdogs and then realize what I've done and try and throw up! oh vegetarian dreams

i take a multi in the morning and calcuim and B12 in the evening. if i start brusing easily or feel extra tired i take an iron (but you should not take those too often or with a meal with calcium in it).
vegetarian women especially need a bit of extra iron (i wrote this on a previous page) but it's a dangerous vitamin, and not like other vitamins, because there is a point of having too much. it's especially dangerous for pregnant women or children.

it's probably a good idea to talk to your dr. but if you're eatting any meat at all then you might not lack. (everyone should take a multi though).

hillarious dream. i've had similar.

^ lol. I admire vegetarians for their self control. I don't think I could ever not eat meat.

yeah I've had tests done before to make sure i wasn't iron deficient and I was fine (oddly enough though my mother who eats quite a bit of red meat, has an iron deficiency...so there you go!)....though I do bruise quite easily. I think it's just my skin though....

Gah why all the meat haters!?

Nothing wrong with a nice, juicey steak once in a while.

^ i don't think it's a matter of being a meat hater. you're welcome to eat what you want. i do it for health and eatting something that had a heart beat grosses me out.

I think meat eaters and non-meat eaters should live in harmony. We should all eat what we want and not look down on others because of their diet. Life is too short!:D

yeah, why worry what other people are eating? Influence people by setting an example, not preaching, its the easiest way to be vegan and not annoying:D

Sweets, thanks for your message!! I've tried answering your PM a number of times but your mailbox is always full so it doesnt get thru... :o

I'd love to give you info, so just let me know when you clear out your mailbox so I can write to you! Hope you get *this* message!

I have to go now but maybe tomorrow.

Cheers!! :flower:

;)

Does any one have info on "vegetarian eggs"? I've heard about them but don't know anyone who has tried them.

I had anaemia when I was young and eating meat, and to my knowledge I haven't had it since I became vegetarian. Eating meat now is just something that I cant see myself doing, I have no desire for it, and think that because I've been veggie now for 9 years the concept of eating something that was once alive would make me not eat it. I have no problems with people eating what they want though...cows would take over the world, thanks meat eaters ;)

I like PETA but in my opinion they're too radical. I prefer Greenpeace ;)

I've been a vegetarian for 2 years and I absolutely love it. I could never ever go back to eating meat however I do still eat dairy and eggs. I am thinking about cutting them out and becoming a vegan. Are there any vegans that have noticed any health differences when they cut out dairy and eggs??
