This End Up - How to Wear Avant Garde Designs

#16, I envy you so much for having that dress! *sniffle* it's so simple but so sexy

the-simiths, i like that idea very much, thanks. obviously you've done this before.

luckyme, i'd wear it with a solid tank or thin long-sleeve tee (depending on weather) underneath, a thin drapey cardigan sweater on top, tights + high chunky boots.

great dress!!!

I'm curious what you guys would do with this yohji apron dress. I tend to lean towards simple and uncomplicated so I would most likely do a muted patterned tee and either my yohji docs or tall ann d. boots, but I also have a tissue thin charcoal/white striped turtleneck (the jcrew ones) that I though would be nice under it as well. any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Striped tee, woolley tights and Docs, maybe even a cropped leather jacket on top? B)

Personally, I would also wear it with a button down in a dark color (a Yohji button down would be great). I'm not sure that's your style though...:P

keep the ideas coming, they are all in line with my thoughts but also different variations on the theme. crepebacksatin, I love the idea of the drapey cardigan, def some tights and could go either way with boots. I have spiky ann d. boots and tall flat ones so that depends on the mood that morning.

yes, yes...that's a great idea. I have the perfect black rick owens leather jacket that would be fantastic...:flower: thank you for that idea. I have these charcoal wool tights with buttons on them that would be really fun for texture. It should arrive tomorrow so I'll have to play a bit this weekend, I just hope it fits.

any word on the boots yet?

I dont like the idea of the striped turtleneck because it's almost like you're attempting to normalize the Yohji piece.
Absolutely, you've gotta avoid that.

I love the idea of a tube top, but if one wouldn't rather...

I know it isn't everyone's cuppa tea, but that's what I'd do, play up the diagonal, divisive aspect... And receive my commision from daily AA endorsements. :P

Those tights sound awesome! I can't wait to see what you come up with.

Boots arrived and they fit perfectly....the leather is so ridiculously soft and they are super comfortable!

I need to take pictures of them when I get my camera back, and also of the Yohji sweater I got a little while ago. :P

ok, so how do you attach the two pieces then? Do you use the ties to put them together, and just close up all the buttons?

My issue is that rosettes bunch up under the flat piece and look very bulky...perhaps it's because the wool has more volume than the jersey.

my capelet showed up on yoox...
this is how it looks on...

i can't capture the screen images for some reason...

lucky- i would wear a long sleeve grey top under that jumper/skirt and little black booties or shoes that look like something an elf would wear...

does it look better with something tight or with something blousey...?
i think we need to see how it fits on you to know what looks best really...

fash ho...
i saw some things like this recently...
i think you heed a BIG safety pin..
then fold the waist band so there is a sort of V in the front at your tummy...
pin in place...to one side
you will need to wear this with a tight top tucked in and/or a cropped jkt or swtr...

I have many long sleeve t's that will go under the dress. I also have a striped cashmere crew that looked great. it looks better with a fitted top on me.

softgrey, I have that comme sweater in my dreambox, the maroon roses peeping out from the back and the collar got me. wondered if that was what you and laika were talking about. are there a lot of hidden ties because yoox, to my amazement, actually figured it out.

lucky- it is exactly the one i have...
so it is just the way i photographed it in the first pics of this thread...
there are quite a number of buttons and ties...yes...

it's true- it's amazing that yoox got it...
that is just the way i have mine done actually...
but mine is black...
i think the burgundy is really gorgeous too though...

i think your jumper/skirt might look really lovely with something loose and romantic actually...
something like the TAO spring stuff...

...

very pirate=y...:argg:

Lucky I LOVE this  I think the marni top would go great, or maybe just a plain white short sleeve top? The dress its self has so much drama I wouldnt add too much more color. I wouldnt wear a turtle neck with it but I tink it would be perfect with big tall boots!

thanks softie. not sure about what you mean by the v, but will try it. you don't mean that v that loosish levis 501's used to give when you wore them belted?? (i am so old-skool)

i also have this fine grey wool halter pinafore by Yohji, baggy-ish, hits about shin-length, has pockets and kind of external darts at the back and at the halter. Just been trying it on with a stripey top underneath but can't get the shoes right. ballet flats seem a bit too delicate- riding boots a bit clumpy
what is a typical Yohji shoe?

typicall yohji shoe is usually like some sort of men's lace up shoe...
or flat boot...
i have a hard time with that as well...
that looks great on the runway and on some people...
but not so much on me...

i think it has to be some sort of boot for me...
it's a bit tricky imo...

*and no- not like the levis......
i mean a real fold over flap...like origami...

thanks GG and SG, it's actually not to hard to find something to wear with because it can go really blousey and very basic and had take on different tones. I would do the pirate thing with my tall ann d. boots and the fitted t with a chunky tight and black bootie. would there ever be a reason to add a belt? I have a very cool strappy black ring belt that loops and ties in front that would lay on my hips...B)

Finally, a pic of my shawl/wrap thing. Yoox made it look pretty good, although I still can't figure out how they got the back to lie flat. I can't post the back pic for some reason, but here's the link.

( I can't believe how much they're selling it for )

Laika, That is absolutely gorgeous. The large grey rosette is a perfect touch, too. Agreed on the price, though.
