This End Up - How to Wear Avant Garde Designs

...
my shirt was being all poufy actually...
and i was doing my darnedest to get it to stay tightly tucked...

i guess next time i will just let it pouf then, if you think that's a good look...^_^

see...you don't have the 'severe' issue laika...because of your colouring...
your light hair automatically works in your favour that way...
things can start to look very 'hard' on me if i am not careful...
and i am definitely not trying to look too 'dark' in a dreary or angry sort of way...

maybe i should focus more on darkly romantic..
maybe that's a good direction to go in...
i guess my new junya dress falls into that category...
i guess i have been unconsciously going in that direction already...
hmmm....

maybe that's a good way to think about all these avant garde things to make them more approachable and wearable...
add something soft to counteract the 'edge'...

:D...
i think i just had an epiphany...^_^...

that looks PERFECT, softie and has given me and idea with my Yohji wool halter dress too

thanks miss!...:flower:...

until i got these boots, i was really struggling with footwear....
and the blouse-well...it seems to soften it just enough..

i still want more options though....

hopefully you will post a pic of how you are wearing yours!....
can't wait!!!...

:P

this is totally my approach to avant garde clothes - i try either to soften them or to wear them with more classic/conservative pieces. When wearing difficult clothes I always try and do more feminine and soft makeup. if you look at yohji's shows his girls always have quite soft makeup and very softly romantic long hair as a balance.

Having said this I have quite often bought avant garde clothes which totally appeal to me as 'things' but i never wear them for fear of them wearing me.....I have started to learn my lesson though and i resist more often.

you manage to do this pretty well helena...
from what i've seen anyway...

unfortunately for me...
resistance is futile...
:ninja:...

...
no i guess that's not entirely true...
i am pretty practical when it comes to buying unwearable things...
but my definition of what is wearable might differ from other peoples'...

:innocent:...

you have some things that i consider completely unwearable..
but you manage to make them work for you..
ie- the grey comme stretch eyelet jkt...
:flower:

*i'm curious...how would YOU wear the y's jumper?
or would you???...

Finally, a pic of my shawl/wrap thing. Yoox made it look pretty good, although I still can't figure out how they got the back to lie flat. I can't post the back pic for some reason, but here's the link.

( I can't believe how much they're selling it for )

{yoox}

hi laika...

i'm curious...
have you worn your shawl thingie this season...?

I have not...:hardhead:

thanks a lot for reminding me. I've even contemplated selling it because I feel so guilty...but something tells me it will be a collector's item one day, and I'm reluctant to let it go at a loss.

Have you worn the culottes? I'm afraid I've forgotten how best to tie the sash since I tried them on at the beginning of the season...Phillip mentioned something about tying the two sashes together?

i grabbed phillip and made him help me figure out the sash...::P
*some lady was helping me but while very nice she was relatively clueless...
so i just grabbed phillip...
:innocent:...

i think i decided that i like it best wrapped several times and then tied off to the side..sort of off centre, in front...no bow...
this creates a high defined waist...

what do you mean about tying them together...?

i haven't gotten to them yet..
but i think i know how i will wear them...
so i am not concerned...
i wear culottes quite a lot...
i think i even started a whole thread on them actually...
:innocent:...it's around here somewhere...
it think they are super versatile...
it's just that sash that is a bit tricky- you're right...

* no i haven't worn the tao shawl...but i have no desire to get rid of it...
it's divine...
and i know the moment will present itself when the moment is right to wear it and i will probably then wear it constantly...
some things are like that...

:P

^I actually like them with a bow just to the side, as shown on the runway, but you've got to tuck your top in if you do that, of course. I want to wear them with something narrow and high-necked...

I don't know what he meant about tying them together--maybe he just meant that you wrap them together, the way we've been doing.

***The culottes thread is pretty hilarious. I will think of you as the Culotte Crusader from now on...:P

i have a vintage blk silk YSL blouse with a high neck and ***** bow that i want to wear tucked into them...
*looks like VB actually, but it's the real deal...:D

so that would be too many bows...
^_^...

yeah...
i AM the culotte crusader...
:muscles:....

sounds like an absolutely gorgeous outfit, softie, I would love to wear exactly that!:heart::heart:

I hope you will post a pic when you do wear it...:innocent:

help please....the yohji sweater with the big pin...can someone please post how this works best. I cant find a way I'm satisfied with it.

lucky, are you by any chance having issues because of that inner flap bit that ties? It took me awhile to figure that part out to my satisfaction, so it wouldn't look lumpy under the flap that you pin...

Can you say what is bothering you about it, exactly?

I'm wearing mine right now... :P

YES, that's exactly what bothers me. if I tie it and pin the other flap up across my chest it seems lumpy and uncharacteristically dull, but if I leave the inside flap untied it looks unfinished and messy.

can you pop a picture? thanks for helping me out.

^I'll try and take a picture later today, sure. The way it works for me (and softie might have a better suggestion) is to make sure the inner flap is lying completely flat when I pin the other one over...

i would really need to see a pic of the sweater because i have never seen it in person...

laika,

thanks, I think that will work and is surely simple enough for me to comprehend doing...

silly softie, its the one you showed me and coaxed me to buy on yoox. :flower:

ok, here is the promised pic...I dunno how much it will help though. It's really very hard to photograph what is essentially a big black blob, and my image is a bit blurry besides.

You can't see it here because my arm is raised, but I tend to either push the collar back, so it drapes almost like a hood, or let it fall off one shoulder.
