First of all, that art design is hideous. It looks like I'm reading through the pages of Harper's Bazaar. Ugh. Who in their right mind would think that an expanded text layout would look attractive?
Secondly, what on earth is up with Edie and Sam's editorial? It's like a VOGUE PROMOTIONS spread. It's boring and Edie ALONE would have been so much better! I like Sam Smith, but I do not see his relevance to this editorial. It looked forced and it's like they knew their readers wanted a Sam Smith feature and they just used this editorial (as irrelevant as it could get) to just get it over and done with. He looks like an extra. I wouldn't have called it "Mood Indigo", I would've called it "Made me Blue" because that's all what it did to me.
Hustle and Flow bores me to death. You had Sasha and Karolin and this is what you produce. Sims for US Vogue needs to take a break. It's even more repetitive than Sims for Vogue Paris. At least that one has attitude. At least that one varies issue after issue. His work for US Vogue is almost an entire shoot divided into 5 issues. This one is just all about hideous hair and funny faces. They look scary to be quite honest. And that's not my Sasha. Also, 2 gray background editorials in 1 issue; for a March issue? Testino and Sims, sit in the corner!
I want more of "The Big Chill"! It's haunting and intriguing! And it's well put! It's the text layout that makes it off for me. Meanwhile, "Taste of the Town" is an okay editorial for me. It's your typical US Vogue editorial, but it has the Steven Klein feel for me. Also, I wouldn't have placed it on the March issue. It's too weak.
Overall, it's a pretty weak issue for me. Nothing stands out. From the main editorial (that looks like Un-Weekend) to all the remaining editorials, everything's just ordinary. This could pass for a May/June/July issue, but not for March. I would've wanted to see Mert & Marcus, Meisel, Klein, Sim, McDean, and I&V (in a better way) all together. That's a March line up of photographers there.
I also do wonder what happened with Meisel and US Vogue. Maybe Anna doesn't like her features and these end unpublished? Or maybe they just don't book him anymore? Or maybe there's something going on that we don't know?
