Vogue Italia April 2014 : Issa Lish & Bernd Sassmanshausen by Steven Meisel

Shocking? I guess the folks at The Independent have never seen a Guy Bourdin ed from the 70s.

I love te two pictures shown so far.

there's been a lot of talking about violence on women here, esp. in parliament, in the last year or so, so i think they got right on that. it's interesting and i can't wait to see it but on the other hand i'm not excited about the inevitable 'is this glamourizing violence on women' debate. also cause the title is 'cinematic' and those shots (i love karen's one) are more like stills of an horror / crime movie than anything else

Finally something interesting for the main ed in Vogue Italia. This reminds me of "State of Independence" back in September 2006, which also deals with violence towards women in the theme.

I wish this ed could be a bit longer than the usual one.

Glamorizing violence against women. I am so disappointed that they would go there. It is not something pretty or cool.

^I'm kind of in the same boat with you, masquerade. I was very disturbed looking at it too.

This Eds Preview remind me the Melanie Pullen's work "High Fashion Crime Scenes":

The story is up at vogue.it. It's one of the best VI stories Meisel has done in ages. After seeing the whole ed the 'glamorizing violence against women' thing planted by The Independent article seems rather silly and pointless. The entire editorial basically consists of perfectly executed stills from a horror movie and (spoiler alert) the women in the end are victorious in defeating their attacker.

The video is amazing too.

I love the YouTube stills idea.
The ed is interesting indeed, very daring.

The video is awesome! Even though i'm not a fan of Issa's beauty at all, she does fit the theme of a cheap horror movie, and so does Natalie.

Is it Issa speaking Japanese?

DISGUSTING.That ********* eic would do anything to sell. I'm not even going to give my personal opinion on her because I would not only get banned from tfs but from the whole internet too.

^In what way is creating a story based on horror movie cliches a sign that Franca will do anything to sell?

I'm judging by the article from the previous page, although she has done low things before too. If it's just based films I couln't care less.

I'm blown away by the editorial. Definitely the best thing that Meisel has produced in ages. Issa and Natalie are perfect fits.

I love horror movies and I love Steven Meisel so I absolutely LOVE this. And just this week I thought to myself Vogue Italia will never be the same as it was when every issue was exciting, and then this came along. I don't really see the violence against women thing. Maybe domestic violence in general cause in the video she gets him. It's about the high drama of a horror movie.

i dont think this has anything to do with domestic violence. It looks like a japanese horror movie. Such a cool story and the video is great

This is The Shining right down to Issa as Shelley DuVall and that creeptastic Prada dude as Jack Nicholson. They've mixed in a few other elements, but for me that is the first thing that comes to mind.
