What Magazines Have You Bought/Received Recently?

Elise Crombez gets Nippon Vogue June cover.

Despite my vow to stop buying US Vogues, I just got the new one with Nicole Kidman. The cover was just too gorgeous to resist. I also liked that they actually used Lily Cole and Gemma Ward in one of the editorials. The rest was basically the same, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt. Oh well.

magazines I've bought within the past month:

Surface
Nylon
Metropolis (not fashion. architecture/interior design oriented. LOVE it)
Metropop
Bazaar. Only for the Gemma Ward Editorial. The rest of this issue is horrid
The Face
ID
Clear
Black Book

And an issue of Architectural Record, given to me from a friend. Saved me 15 bucks.

Oh dear. That all adds up to be too much $$ hahaha. I don't have the kind of cash some of you guys have here!

I didn't buy any April or May issues of anything. There wasn't anything good! :/
I usually just don't buy magazines to buy them. there has to be something that can justify me paying $5-20 or whatever for them. And nothing from April or May had it... psh!

The only thing I really liked was the current issue of Zink, which I should go out and get soon, if i can find it. hahah.

I bought the new Vogue today. The "Bikinni Diaries" is an interesting article to read.

I recently bought the US Vogue because of the editorial shots of Nicole by Penn. I love Penn and love Nicole so it was all good. :flower:

I bought both March and April Brazilian Vogue and Elle, just to catch up on what's new for this coming winter. But I don't plan to buy any other magazines until August/September (summer collections).

I bought Oyster mag the other day.
That Elise cover is nice, I love the titles they put on Nippon Vogue, they're always so cute, like, "Spring Comes!", "You are Woman" and this one "Marry me Now".

Really? I mean, I suppose they are cute, but I always find them to be really weird. "Marry Me Now" isn't exactly a positive message to be sending out there. Also, I seem to remember an issue from 2001 with Stella Tennant on the cover with the words "BUY OR DIE".

Conde Nest Traveler. This month's issue has their annual "Hot List" of hotels, restaurants, and clubs around the world. For $5 yearly subscription I sure enjoy it :P

I got US Vogue, Allure, Marie Claire and InStyle in the mail yesterday. I know my mailman hates me.

Nothing wrong with a bit of assertiveness... :innocent:

Liya Kebede on the cover of the new Numero, wearing the Stella McCartney dress worn by Natalie Portman to the Constume Institute Gala.

Britney Spears wins US Marie Claire cover. Yfum [sp] and Caitriona Balfe each has an editorial. The swimsuit ed features an unknown to me but she looks pretty. However, overall I give the issue a thumb-down. The new layout for Marie Claire looks too glossy and air-brushed.

Sarah Jessica Parker wins UK Marie Claire cover.

Jennifer Garner wins US InStyle cover. Josie Maran and Diana Kruger each has an editorial. Again, a thumb-down.

Harper's & Queen has Jacquetta Wheeler on the cover, wearing Tom Ford's dress from his last collection at Gucci already.

I subscribe to all US fashion magazines (Vogue, Bazaar, Elle, W, Lucky, Marie Claire, Cosmopolitan, Glamour) and buy the foreign publications when they hit the book store. This month, I recommend:

*US Vogue - for the gorgeous Nicole Kidman/Irving Penn cover and the excellent selection of clothes in the editorial "City of Angels" (by Steven Meisel) and "French Twist" (by Annie L.). I don't like the photography that much, but the styling in these two editorials is superb.

*Nippon Vogue - Angela Lindvall on the cover, editorials inside include: Trish Goff, Julia Stegner, Natasha V, Maria Carla Boscono, and Anouck Lepere (modeling for Celine). Lots of substance.

The best editorial this month, however, is Kate Moss photographed by Mario Sorrenti in W.

I'm dying to see the new UK Vogue (Scarlett Johansson) and Spanish Vogue (Angela Lindvall).

Finished the Harper's & Queen and gave it a thumb-down. I bought it for the Jacquetta cover, basically.

While I do like its new layout (the "Runway to Closet" column & picture is excellent), it tries too hard to be UK Vogue and fails fairly miserably at that. The models they use look really, um, old!?!?

Uk Vogue is the bible? Are these people absolutely blind or are they merely taking bribes? Uk Vogue has been horrible as of late! And the new Scarlett Johanssen issue is even worse!

As much as people hate to admit it, American Vogue is the bible. Whether you like it or not, Anna's Vogue is the only one that truly matters. French and Italian Vogues are ok as of late, but none have the power of their American sister.

V has been steadily getting better after being soooo bad for a long time. The new Janet issue is pretty solid as far as editorial content. i-D is also insanely strong so far this year. Seems like they can't do anything wrong!

The spring issue of selfservice was a little boring to me. Scott, space, anyone else...what did you think?

And I agree that the spring issue of Another is very good. Except for the cover. Kate Moss really needs a break right now. Though I love her Africa editorial in the May Uma issue of W.
i loved your post...agree about american vogue... :flower: [/b][/quote]
me too!

Yeah, they would be really wrong if they were found on an publication written in English but I think the Japanese>>>bad-English translations are funny.

LibertyRose, Thanks for all your reviews. You make it so much easier to know what's out there. I hope you keep posting them,I used to go to another forum to see all the details now I can just stay here at tFS. :flower:

Purple Magazine is pretty cool. It has a really diverse selection of photographers... Paolo Roversi to Terry Rirchardson. :woot:

I don't usually buy magazines, my agency always has every single magazine ever. So I can just sit in there are flip through magazines until they kick me out.

I like almost all magazines, but mostly stuff from things like *surface, The Face, i-D, Another Magazine is pretty kick ***. London magazines have the best editorials.....

I don't really read articles, just over analyze the photos. But US Vogue usually has some really cute/good articles if I take the time to read them :innocent:

Uma's issue of W was completely EMPTY. I don't know why they just didn't skip that month entirely... :innocent:
