What Magazines Have You Bought/Received Recently?

Another Magazine

Hi. I was consdering the idea of buying Another Magazine. I saw it on the newstand and it seemed to be huge.

Has anybody bought it, and can teel me if it's worth buying it?

A small review - just a list of the edits with models and photographers - would really be great!

Hi, That's so nice that you can buy all that fashion magazines, 'cause here in Russia I can buy only Russian magazines, as for me, I buy only Vogue 'cause it's the only magazine I can read (I don't like Russian Elle, Bazaar). But I go to the library and take there US Vogue once in a month, they came with great delay so I'll read January issue in May or June probably. That's very upsetting!!! But I've subscribed to US Vogue this year, it's Internet subscribtion and now I'm waiting for my first issue!:D Oh, I dream of POP, Nylon, Numero, Tank etc. but can't afford them. Want to live somewhere else, not in Russia, though I love my country.

Vogue Russia, Elle Ru, Bazaar Ru, L'officiel Russia are GREAT mags!! i love them, they have style & class!!! & the choice of the eds sometimes reprinted inside Elle RU is great!!

Vogue RU is a must, it's often better than Vogue of my country (Vogue IT, considered the byble of the fashion mags). believe me!

quick thoughts on "another magazine "

COVER Story: Drew barrymore by inez & vinoo. excellent photos, among best drew Ive seen since her playboy spread. Will US vogue drew edit be this good? probably not.

karen elson by mcdean. superb work by mcdean, really creative, shows why hes among 10 best photogs in 2005. karen is a wonderful model but this is more on her 'shock/edge' look than her 'glam/beauty' look. still its prob the best edit in the mag & a real testament to mcdean & karen being at the very top of the photo/model world in 2005. B)

 cameron by sorrenti. best looking model in issue. I think to many inside the business, cameron is one of the hottest girls. somehow she hasnt broken out to the general crowd yet. I dont know why. I love cameron. sorrenti did a good job here, like his typical bazaar studio edit. yet I think he could have gone MUCH sexier & wilder with cameron. she is definitely up for it, wow she is hot here. give cameron to mcdean, mert/marcus or roversi & we will see much better pics. still an excellent story.

also edits with iselin & querelle. so far iselin hasnt won me over like she seems to have impressed others in fashion more. shes kind of dream-like faint to me but maybe I just need to see her more.
querelle is an interesting girl, shes good here & its a decent edit but other than her striking look, its also a fairly average edit.

:o theres also a male model edit "Patrick G"?? anyway I dont like any male models but hes the best one ive seen all year. :woot:

anyway thats a quick look at ANOTHER MAGAZINE.
From a consumer perspective I rate it THUMBS IN THE MIDDLE.
Its worth a look but aside from cameron & karen, its actually not essential. use your discretion. :flower:

March issue of Nylon with Evan Rachel Wood on the cover.

There is a really nice editorial titled "Dream Weaver" photographed by Tara Darby and has drawings by Claire Durbridge.

I bought the Paris Vogue yesterday, comes in really handy if you want to improve your French like me. There is a 'Topmodels spécial' in it (incl. Daria, Marina, Doutzen, Hana & Julia) and a few cute Mona editorials (a bit boring though).

Gisele on Vogue UK 04/05

review by Cathy from fashist-online forum
"Cover:
Gisele by Demarchelier in a pastel pink Ralph Lauren halterneck column dress. This cover could be described as ‘timeless’ because it could have been taken at any point in Gisele’s career since 2000. On the other hand, it could be described as ‘nondescript’. Myself, I couldn’t complain about a Gisele cover, but it doesn’t rock my world. And there’s no Gisele inside.

Editorials:
WORLD VISION uses one of this season’s new blonde models, in a 12 pg studio-shot Demarchelier edit that showcases ‘subtlely ethnic clothes’, which means feather trims on shirts or zebra-print shoes with otherwise normal-looking summer shirts or floaty skirts. I can’t confirm who this is, as I don’t care about new models until they have a season behind them, but I’m sure some sharp-eyed person can ID her when images come up at vogue.co.uk over the weekend.

PAINTED LADY has Paolo Roversi taking Lily Cole, and shooting her as if she’s in a Sarah Moon editorial that’s infected with German Expressionism; Paolo combines his usual ‘unfocused’ style with a heavy-lidded Lily, whose hair is a Biba riot of red curls. However, the background is an unpleasant mix of strong colours – mustard yellow with deep blue and strong red – and Lily’s skin has been given a yellow tinge, so the overall effect is deliberately disjointed. 10 pgs.

MILLION DOLLAR BABY is a look at Elise’s activities during a week at the Paris collections, with added commentary from Christa D’Souza and a lot of images of Elise in fittings and backstage. This is a wonderful, unique, entertaining article that makes you feel like you met Elise yourself. 10 pgs and every one a pleasure. Elise is lovely, the writer is witty and all the images express a sense of life.

Singer Joss Stone is a STYLE SIREN, shot by Karen Collins, although she’s left her boho look behind in favour of some ‘grown-up glamour’ such as long dresses – but she remains barefoot throughout. 6 pgs.

Erin Wasson is dreading THE DRESS REHEARSAL, although she’s 100% prepared, with full make-up, perfectly curled hair and the prettiest evening wear a theatre wage can buy. Shot by Carter Smith, this has Erin pulling dramatic faces in and around a theatre set. I will say that her face looks very angular in some shots and it isn’t very flattering, because the hair and overall styling are so soft and feminine. But that’s a small point. 10 pgs.

Natasha Poly is a CALIFORNIA GIRL, or so Corinne Day would have us believe, over 12 pgs of moody sunshine and loose summer dresses. I usually find Natasha a little boring, but here she’s allowed to express herself, so we see her smiling and frowning, staring or sleeping. Her facial expressions are what animates a sleepy, summery editorial."
