NYLON MARCH 2005- Best New Girls, Edits, Ads, Shopping. Part One-

Best New Girls in March 2005 NYLON:

pg 34 'mixology' actress camilla belle. looks like a more polished sofia coppola. nice miu top & shorts styled by ruth kahn. effective m s jarrett photo. watch for this camilla belle, promising young actress.

pg 42 'angels & insects' zhanna at IMG. great new girl, looks like the russian noot sear. love her lady bug romper/swimsuit. sexy lolita photo by cass bird & k8 hardy styled.
* zhanna is back on pg 72 even hotter in fornarina's 'skin' panties & bra with cute flowers. once again zhanna is really hot & cass bird shot her looking like the trans-siberian lily donaldson here.

pg 45 siena @ next. looks like cameron's bookish sister. nice pic in union sq park, works much better than stacey mark & adam marnie's park pics [thompkins?] in feb. issue, which were out of focus. cass bird again, def. better work than adam marnie.

pg 46: agnes b at next looks like anja's depressed brunette sister. [does agnes know she has the same name as a famous french fashion desiigner? Next must!] nice diaphanous dress & red bra by jean yu. well-styled by kris dechter. photog lou christopher shows promise need to see more of his work.

pg 50: kelly at NY models. very cute girl looks like the prettier jessica seinfeld [!]. stacey mark again with the soft focus but works well indoors here.
copy editing totally f*cked up. correct numbers should read: 3. cheng cardigan. 4. flat by keds. 6. dress by a/x. nice still lifes & shopping but the NYLON copy editor totally f*cked up.
* more editing errors pg 54: "3. pumps by LV' is repeated TWICE!! who is editing this copy??!!
** kelly still cute on pgs 52, 54, pg. 70 & pg 75 too. love sally shaw's patchwork coat but stacey mark is soft-focusing everything now & it looks weak!

pg 59-61 'top coat' suzanne @ women LOVE her! looks like kim lemanton on drugs or ksenia on even more drugs. love aya kanai's styling & nina mouritzen captured suzanne's subterranean, dangerous sexuality. so hot. burberry trench a classic.
* more editing errors: page 60: burberry is spelt "BURERRY" in the center credits column. I cannot believe this copy editing!!

pg 62 : 'cartoon network' candace miller @ ford looks like a heavier jennifer o'neill or the sl*tty catherine bach in 10th grade [redundant?]. love the Dior anime tee shirt & editor m s jarrett can shoot lolitas when he's in the mood.

pg 64 MORE copy editing errors: should read: 2. marija in bikini by...? 3. natasha poly in oscar de la renta s/s ? 05. 4. skirt by nikka. 5. beaded silk top by etro. 6. dress by cynthia rowley. 8. flats by sigerson morrison. ANYWAY SIX copy editing errors on ONE PAGE is SIX too many!! WHO is editing this??

pg 93 'beauty queen' tianna at ford looks like roos from sebia. fairly sexy beauty closeup by carol cohen. hot black croche swimsuit. both tianna & carol deserve more work here.

BEST EDIT #1: pg 130. Richard Kern shoots anna & michelle, very sexed up high school/prep looks. Incredible edit, one of the hottest in amy american mag this year.
Kern is a famous fine art photog and he's the very best & sexiest that Nylon employs.
I dont know these girls, theres no proper agency credits, did kern discover them? anyway michelle looks like angie lindvall at 14 {!!!] and anna looks like sarah sewar at 16!! this edit is out of this world arty, hot, sexy & the clothes styled by kusum lynn also tremendous incl burberry red & white gingham sweater. kors blue/white scarf & dior white panties [an upskirt panty shot thats so hot, and naughtily daring. hottest pic of the year in nylon]. polo denim shorts, chanel polo shirt [!!!!] and vintage black watch skirt. anyway one of best edits of the year in any us mag & kern's photos are so hot & so modern & arty they cld be in a gallery RIGHT NOW. rating 11 out of 10.

BEST EDIT #2: Valerie Avdeyera shot by viki forshee in some bermuda/cali rainbow brights. valerie recalls several great current girls- anja rubik; a blonde eugenia [!] and also a little sara ziff and sarah sewar!! awesome retro futurism here, very 50s-60s-2005. superb model & pics. inspired by ava gardner & grace kelly these miami beach pics are among the most professional looking of Nylon's recent issues. this edit could have worked in bazaar or even W and the retro framing & backgrounds by forshee are particularly evolved given Nylon's sometimes haphazard methods. kusum lynn looks like Nylon's #1 stylist with these superb resort looks incl ck camel cardigan & lam shorts; lv patterned blouse & skirt [gorgeous!!]. marc blue/white check blouse [sweet!]; burberry blue/white print blouse, chanel bathing suit; and pringle floral blouse w/YSL dotted skirt. the kern edit above & this forshee edit are 2 of the best Ive seen EVER in nylon & to me they represent a new level of sophistication for the mag's models, styling & photogs. BRILLIANT: 10 of 10.

ONLY OKAY NEW GIRLS.
pg 66 miss rachel jennings coye. big-nosed mis-shapes wanna-be from astoria. not hot. awful shot by jordan bennett, lighting is horrible.

pg 84 'fruit of the loom' nerry at trump looks like the mulatta cintia & elizabeth at ford looks like raggedy ann in harlem. nice fruit themed prints & assorted lingerie shots by glynnis mcdaris but these girls are sub-par. or too benetton maybe. lots of strong looks ck , miu, luella, missoni, rykiel, moschino, lv, sui but to me in trying to use 'alternative' girls this edit fell flat & makes Nylon look amateurish, thats the problem with their purposefully sloppy mindset, sometimes it bombs. these clothes cld hv been great with the right girls like a sara ziff, louise, winberg or polina type.

pg 140 'dream weaver' marni is the model, but there's no model or agency credit!! shot by tara darby. art styling & projections by claire durbridge. love the various artworks, refs incl. muybridge, picasso, velasquez, buster keaton, betty page. some ok clothes like burb trench, fred perry visor [!!] light blue lacoste polo [!] westwood vintage pants [!] CK red bra. not so into this girl a washed out mid-western romina lanaro. theres a lot good about the art here but as huge as this edit is in ambition & conception, it also is not all the way there like the kern or forshee edits are. rating: 7 of 10 for the art & some of the clothes.

pg 146 another edit: asia argento by stacey mark. alot of bedroom stuff. OK. some nice pieces like gucci & LV but kanai's styling cant shine with these somewhat sleepy bed pics. while better than mark's typical soft focus of late, I also think another photog wld hv shot asia MUCH hotter [shes really sexy & cute] and somehow mark's kelly 2 NY models pics starting page 50 work better than these somewhat mis-firing bedroom attempts. I bet kern would do something erotic with asia that would get the entire film business talking. mark didnt. we'll see argento again shes magnetic. rating 6.5 of 10 asia is growing on me now.

COVER: Evan Rachel Wood. this is some 17 year old actress? the pics are ok, not too hot. I expect more of a Nylon coverstar & edit. Jason Nocito shot this. [he also shot those awful bijou phillips pics a few months back]. anyway I dont know rachel but she's shot here like 'the sloppy' chloe sevigny. really lazy un-style images she looks badly & the photographer is a lot worse than that. terrible. the color cover is the best with marc dress & cute orange hair by peter butler. inside the b&w's are rank slacker chloe sevigny style & nocito embodies that 'too lazy to shoot proper photos' that is Nylon's un-doing at times. rating: COVER: 4 of 10. inside : 2 of 10.

SMART SHOPPING:
'fair weather trends'
pg 162: 'HOME ON THE RANGE' show pics incl winberg @ D2; marija @ mj; & sarah sewar at isabel marant.
* love michael pangilinan's collages incl rainbow ho air balloon.
* pg 164 'we all shine on' incl. elise @ rochas. & diana d @ ricci.
* pg 165 'sports report' incl elise @ miu miu; buswell @ Oscar [the tennis dress & racquet, OUTSTANDING look!!]. winberg in chanel swimsuit [!!!].
* and another brilliant pangilinan collage incl sports stickers [!] tennis racquet rack[!!] and puma wristband. this guy & I are thinking alike here!
I wear tennis clothes at LEAST 6 months a year and these collages are hitting many of my fave fetishes! HOT!!

pg 168 'bag check- southern exposure' resort accessories incl Pucci tote bag $995. cool!!; "I rub my duckie' VIBRATOR by sonia rykiel {!!!!] $78 a cute black duck with orange beak & happy eyes!!; and Shoshanna floral bikini bottom, $64 and so perfect for that wainscott summer stroll! or south beach too ;)

Comprehensive Summary of March 2005 Nylon: Part Two-

NYLON MARCH 2005- Ads, Shopping. PART TWO-

HOT ADS: Querelle for Marc shot by Teller. Best marc girl since sofia. cindy sherman ads were bizarre & unintelligible.

* nativodi for CK. on her back, eyes closed, hands tucked under waistband. there is no doubt shes feigning masturbation. most daring CK ad since maybe meisel banned video camapign. among nati's best CK images ever, ties with her hottest CK swim ads. essential for all CK & nati collectors to get this wild ad.

sisley. average glam ad with nicole richie look-alike on floor in bronze dress, but mirror reflection in back shows she pantyless & there is her hot bare azz.
a rewarding ad for those with sharp eyes ;)

Puma 'new stuff' campaign. excellent modern puma designs this one in black silver & white very sleek, very NOW. I prefer retro adidas & puma styles but these new pumas are pretty hot too.

?? ADS
lily cole for longchamps. liked lily in 2004. suddenly shes such old news next to new killers like polina, poly, inguna, noorda etc etc. shes nearly done!

lacoste orange polo shirt with white piping & fluffy fabric. dunno bout you but i cherish my vintage lacostes from 70s-90s. I dont want any UPDATED lacostes! whats with the piping, the color & wide neck?? screw that Im sticking with my old lacostes that have been worn in for decades. and look a lot better than this!!

MUSIC- PHOTOGRAPHY.
* "radar" pg 104. beck shot by autumn de wilde at skooby's gourmet hotdogs [silverlake?]. excellent portraits incl. girls in animal masks & beck in dior homme. lydia paddon styled. this is a terrible article by chris martins. the recent ny times magazine beck story was lightyears better to read. but nylon's images are far far better.
makes me long for the 90s 'raygun' magazine from m s jarrett which had music journalism as great as its pioneering graphics. Not much into beck but these are great shots by de wilde.
* pg 108 The Kills. interesting duo shot by emma summerton. again photos much better than kim bennett's text.
* pg 110 kings of leon. like this band a lot, have both Lps. I think the 1st may be slightly better. want to see them live. will sanders shot a great portrait in UK phone booth but again kim bennett's writing is awful, untrained & nearly unreadable. whoever is editing the music section [the same person who's copy editing the shopping collages?] is incompetant & should be fired. the writing here is embarassing but the graphics are excellent.
** new cds worth hearing: The Golden Rerpublic & especially Joy Zipper. Even if the writing sucks the editors know the good new bands.

VERDICT: 2 THUMBS UP. A MUST BUY for kern's & forshee's edits, 2 of the best in Nylon history & 2 of the sexiest in any US mag this year.
Several important new model discoveries like zhanna @ IMG, kelly @ NY models, suzanne @ women; & candace miller @ ford. the monthly group of new girls also makes Nylon a must-read. Some strong shopping as always. Pangilinan's collages were great, he's got to get more art work in Nylon.
Overall the other inside art was not as well art directed as some Nylons but still functional layout over-all. the real disappointments were the amateur hour/ high school newspaper copy editing, rife with errors in shopping ID's & even spelling. You cant take a fashion mag seriously with this many errors & it really angered me since Im obviously one of the sharpest eyed readers in america. I spotted more than 10 editing errors this month & it's obvious I should be copy editing Nylon instead. also a few of the models cast were pretty disappointing especially rachel coye and the fruit of the loom edit could have been spectacular with good girls instead we got rejects. The 3 main edits tho, kern, forshee & dream weaver, are enough to make this mag one of the years best, and everyone should buy it & savour kern's super-hot library shots & forshee's gorgeous retro beach pics. Despite the copy errors & a few bum girls, this issue is a total TWO THUMBS UP. BUY IT!!!!

there was no model credit.
the copy editing was amazingly lax in the march nylon.
are you claire the stylist & artist & projectionist?
your work was the highlight of the dream weaver.
if so I saw your allusions to picasso, and other 20th century icons I will list in my review.
also the kern library story, my fave, had no agency credits.
the other best story was the place in the sun beach edit.
as you see I said everyone shld buy the issue, I have an essay already written about the entire magazine, posting tonight.

thanks lady gray. yes thats me - your words are truly kind - it is a shame that there was no model credit. there shouldve been. her name is marni. she was great. i am glad that you appreciated the collage. cant wait to read your review! x claire ^_^

anyone have a clue as to who is on the april us bazaar? it's rare that vogue is out first...

Glamour (they have a great vogue 12 subcription deal to your door) - music special with gwen stefani and others. elizabeth jagger talks shop.
loved the pinko advert (who is the gorge girl) and lily cole looks lovely for longchamps and the vicky andren spread is lush

my summary is just above your post im sure youll see it its 5000+ words.
your projections and artworks were excellent, as I mentioned in my thoughts.
since there was an overt picasso allusion, can you tell me the other artists & famous photos etc that inspired you/ you referenced? I saw images that recalled betty page, muybridge, buster keaton & other iconic 20th century imagery but possibly your SPECIFIC images are based on other sources.
also what did you think of kern's & forshee's pictures? as you see they were my very favourites over all. if you happen to speak to anyone at nylon in the future feel free to show them my remarks as well as the editing errors I pointed out.
as brilliant as the imagery & photos are in nylon, having more than TEN copy editing errors [incl. no model info for marni nor agency affiliations for kern's girls] disappoints me as I am obviously a fastidious reader in the extreme.
hope you enjoy my essay- I liked your pictures immensely. :flower:

some may cover news:

US Bazaar: Angelina Jolie
Jane: Alexis Biedel
Maxim: Paris Hilton
US Elle: Eva Green
Allure: Penelope Cruz

Haven't been here for awhile. My $0.02 on magazines that haven't been discussed yet:

Glamouris the most interesting street fashion magazine this month (beating Lucky and Cosmopolitan, which were both entertaining). It features a radiant Marissa Miller playing with wild lives while dressed in animal prints and a fun mix-and-match editorial that highlighted designers such as Marni and Derek Lam. Marissa Miller has had some high-profile bookings this year in addition to her SI swimsuit shoots--I've seen her in UK GQ and the Michele Stars tee-shirt campaign.

Marie Claire was a disaster. Avoid it at all costs.

Michael Thompson returns to W with two editorials (and a cover) with Lindsay Lohan and Natalia Vodianova, respectively. As lady_grey indicated, the magazine also featured the respectable work of Paolo Roversi and Craig McDean. But the truth is, while I like all the photographers, I didn't like the editorials enough to recommend the magazine. Roversi's "Lady in Waiting" couture edit w/ Lisa Cant and Heather Marks from last year was superior. The McDean edit had excellent styling (my favorite look combined a Ralph Lauren dress and a Chanel sandal) and lighting (loved the mauve background) but made the mistake of casting a model that I don't like. The Lindsay Lohan cover was nice, but the edit inside was an imitation of vintage Calvin Klein ads.

00290f.jpg

Vogue... Don't like the cover b/c Drew Barrymore looks VERY old and the lion was so irrelevant. But the articles should make this a passable read. Steven Meisel's editorial with different body shapes was decadant in a good way, with Janual and Lisa Cant being the stars. Lydia Hearst failed to impress, though. The Natasha Poly editorial (with her dressed in cropped pants) was casual and fun, if not a bit unexpected. It also marks Craig McDean's first location shoot with a model in a long time.

Allure: What could we expect from Britney Spears at this point?
allure1.jpg

allure2.jpg

Hilary Swank gets the 2-pg star-focus column. She did look good during the award season, but Cate Blanchett outshone her, imo. Caroline Ribeiro and Heather Marks each had an editorial. For April, Penelope Cruz will get the cover while Michelle Buswell wins the swimsuit edit.

Jane: Brittany Murphy cover.

Jessica Alba, in addition to the March Cosmo cover, wins April GQ cover as well as an editorial inside Interview (Ashton Kutcher on the cover).

notes on april 2005 vogue drew barrymore- shape issue. poly- liya-

PHOTOS:
Apart from main edits, best photographic examples in april vogue:
pg 76 elgort shoots ALT 1988 in great windowpane plaid suit. elgort really captures the energy bustle & majesty of 5th avenue- as he has been doing brilliantly for about 40+ years. also love ALT's versace quilted coat & leighton jewels 1997.

pg 206. isabeli shot by meier from last month's bag story. you know its a weak vogue when one of the best fashion images is an outtake from a month ago.
never thought too much of isa but meier actually shot her better than most. the sander blouse & skirt help too, elissa santisi & meier 2 of the most under-appreciated MVPs every month in vogue & judging from the weak edits this month, maybe these 2 should be given a star edit soon. say so!

pg 258 demarchelier shoots isabeli in st barth's. I think we've never seen the full isa in st barts edit? not sure. anyway if any photog has to shoot isa swim for us vogue it might as well be patrick. i just wish the model was buswell, louise julia valentina marija or eugenia. i mean surely anna's seen the VF bikinis by now? dont sleep scarecrow!

pg 254 james wojcik shoots grains of rice winningly- much under the artful influence of Penn but who isnt these days?

pg 270. newton shoots daria throwing a '1 ton' boulder like some steroided up incredible hulk. newton is one of my fave photogs but unfortunately this may be daria's ugliest image ever. I liked some of his daria images [lady on bed of nails] in i think his last edit ever? Id like to see the outtakes from newton's daria shoot.
much better was elise by newton mopping up blood a year or 2 ago. now thats a newtonian image & thats a top model!

pg 288. cameron diaz in D&G bathing suit. hottest image in issue. testino's sex appeal is what vogue has been missing lately. please have mario shoot louise julia winberg buswell, sarah deanna, marija & elise in bikinis soon. give cameron credit 10+ years on she still got her model bikini body. very hot. testino knows whats sexy & he captures it on film.

pg 364 . francois halard shoots tuscan villa. sumptuous garden & landscape photos and on a visual level this edit, even more than poly's resort ed, is the best illustrated in the magazine. thats right, a travel / scenic edit is the best vogue offers this month. eeeps.

MAIN EDITS:
since others have summarized the edits I'll just chime in with a sentence or 2 on main stories.

Drew barrymore by liebowitz. as I feared, inez & vinoo's recent ANOTHER MAGAZINE shoot on drew is far far better than this. its another stagey liebowitz shoot based around beauty & the beast but compared to the splendid nativodi 'alice in wonderland' shoot, this is flat & sleepy. and its another vanity fair egotrip from liebowitz, who often takes vogue away from high fashion models & sexiness, into her ego tripping out storybook hollywood fan mag. - photoplay by way of san francisco rolling stone. L Lo in W was more charming & human than this & Drew wins few fans with these stagey & bloodless snaps. rating 4 of 10.

* meisel. great to see tiiu, lily D & lydia hearst, however these pics are almost as flat and clumsy as drew's. meisel is brilliant in italian vogue but his work is phoned in for us vogue. look at the avedon jerry hall pic on pg 88 & see why avedon is an all time great in studio fashion shoots. based on this evidence, meisel lost all interest in shooting us vogue studio work sometime in the mid 90s. To think how great tiiu & lily D should be in vogue & theres almost nothing here. I like lydia hearst more or less but meisel needs Italian Vogue to do her properly & ideally her sister amanda will be cast soon, imo amanda is a more promising model than lydia, she's the new krissy taylor. amanda please!!
rating 5.5 of 10.

* klein shoots liya. liya and poly are the only girls that really shine in this issue. klein adheres to typical vogue studio style. it cld almost be meisel or elgort or demarchelier or mcdean shooting. klein was one of the most promising & iconoclastic photogs in the 90s but his us vogue work, with a very few exceptions [robots] has been disappointing in the extreme. this liya shoot is functional & fairly pretty but not much more. like meisel, I wish anna wld let klein use his imagination & remind us why he came to fame a decade ago. it wasnt for matter of fact studio shoots like this. rating 6.5 of 10, all for liya's pro moves.

* mcdean shoots poly. nice story, tabitha simmons excels with the styling- LV, CH, prouenza- mcqueen, Balenciaga. nice snaps from mcdean, but like meisel & klein, I know he can do more than this. I think corinne day's poly shoot in latest UK vogue was much better, and similar in resort/summer look & feel. still simmons' editing is effective & poly is already a top 10 girl, and maybe getting hotter. I hope & expect we'll be seeing her a lot more in vogue, and hopefully polina, anja, buswell, julia too.
this is the kind of story that makes a fashion magazine great, and there should be 5 more like this or better every month. its not impossible,. UK vogue & bazaar have been doing it every month. I still hold high hopes for mcdean in us vogue, his recent W shoot with gemma & noorda was outstanding. rating: 7 of 10.

RETRO FABULOUS:
avedon shoots jerry hall 1975. pg 88. check out the energy & candour of avedon's studio shoot with striking jerry & see why meisel's us vogue shoots [and also kleins & mcdeans] fall flat. like elgort & penn, avedon is from the era when us vogue photography was classic & arty yet fun & vividly contemporary. not liebowitz' sleep-walking nightamres. meisel mcdean & klein deliver in their other work elsewhere , but rarely in us vogue. look at jerry by avedon and witness a greater era in vogue photography.

LETTERS: pg 120. remember the abysmal J Lo cover story that most of us hated? the readers seem to agree:
maria barrera writes: "J Lo is completely inarticulate...uses profanities. cant act. cant sing. use your magazine for real talent- or real models at the very least.' wheh youre right youre right!!
* Baria Abdur-Razzaq writes: "A reprehensible tribute to a marginally talented actress..." tell us how you really feel!

TALKING FASHION: pg 141. Alex Kotur/billy norwich on the 'swans' from february, chairing the MMA costume ball. Jon Becker's color portrait here is better than any of his terrible photos in feb. [blurry socials running through the met's greek galleries? no thanks]. nice chanel on all 5 swans & marielle safra particularly looks like esther canadas by way of monte carlo. and thankfully no lauren davis quotes this time. that february norwich 'swans' piece was such a non-story it was embarrassing. billy must have hated kissing those girls' azzes at 3 guys coffee shoppe.

COUTURE. Vogue has extended coverage of the Paris couture, but W, which came out 10 days earlier [L Lo issue] had couture AND NYC fashion week FIRST.
so temporally W trumps vogue there. Vogues couture coverage is about on the level of W's [neither story blew me away this season actually] with highlights being:
lily at lacroix; winberg @ valentino; poly at lagerfeld. erin o'c at JPG.

SHOPPING:
55 bikinis. meredith burke runs a tight shopping column, and I like a lot of these swim choices: armani-burberrry- ferragamo-eres- ungaro. CK- ralph,
.the index opens with gisele in a malia mills bikini [i dont think this cut works with her boyish hips & equine long legs] but after that its all still lifes of bikinis with NO MODEL! I cant believe they passed up a chance to give us julia, buswell, marija, eugenia or valentina in bikinis! good shopping picks but also an opportunity missed.

ADS:
who's the prada girl, shannon click? love this recent campaign, clothes, accessories, girls, art direction, photos.

angie lindvall for CK. angie works great for CK. is she not expecting her second child soon? love nati's swimsuit ck ads [boulders] love to see angie in same shots and swimsuits.

kate for cavalli burberry & dior. when shes on shes the greatest model of our lifetime. these ads provide a glimpse into that epochal kate the great. will any of todays top girls still be doing it this well 13+ years from now? with this high level of super luxe brands/campaigns? survey says: NO. . thats why kate is #1 since 1992 and still. .

barney's ad with winberg & emina. only 4 pages but devastatingly beautiful images of both girls. harks back to best of 50s/early 60s US fashion, when glam was glam and ladies were ladies. and once again winberg looks like the best blonde model alive besides julia.

H&M. not a fan of the clothes but this time they cast buswell, marija & emina so despite the middling picture-making here, the great girls- 3 of the best in 2005- make this ad successful. love the flowery typeface too, shame about the played-out steppenwolf/easy rider quote. H&M may be successful but their branding is dumbed down & I have thus far been successful in not purchasing any of their cut-rate threads.

madonna for versace. those who feel that maddy lost her fashion pizzazz about 10 years ago have their case buttressed with another ghastly versace image. leaving aside the bronze crocodile looking coat, focus on maddy's outsized orange shades- Im telling you the reagge toaster YELLOWMAN rocked this style way hotter than maddy in the early 80s & if youve ever seen yellowman I think maddy is less happy coming up short in that faceoff. plus king yellow raps better than esther.

VERDICT: THUMBS IN MIDDLE. Nice work from liya, poly, halard & mcdean. some winning single images from avedon, elgort, meier & testino. I found meisel, klein & liebowitz' work to be subpar. casting tiiu & lily D and not coming through frustrates. 404 pages & a lot to flip through but imo the shape issue is my least fave vogue yearly and this ish did nothing to change my mind. Im sure most of you, like me, read vogue every month anyway so look for the best pics from avedon, poly, meier & testino & skip all the boring, unappealing & useless shape stuff. maria sharapova in prada [or better a bikini] is more motivational to my training & workout shape so I gleaned very little from this ultra-PC sampling. im looking forward to bazaar monday & suffice to say the L Lo W ish blew this mediocre vogue away.

so goldie hawn is on the cover of april us bazaar :yuk:

it was on extra...

I LOVE Evan. She was the best young thing on TV in ages in Once & Again, but I didn't really like her in Thirteen and I'm not sure being pinned as the next IT-girl will do her any good.

nice cover...any ideas on the model?

saw SURFACE. Sarah Seewer is exceptional, another 21st century edgy and beautiful model. so much personality in her look & a GREAT body. edit includes 2 bikini shots that are HOT especially jeremy scott silver chain mail bikini that sarah wears much better than jessica miller did - so you know SS is smoking.
david ferrua shot the edit its an excellent studio shoot that is a little sexier than your average US vogue or bazaar shoot goes. If you like sarah - and I find her a significant new-ish girl- you may want to buy this ish just for this great edit.
* theres a 'designer/personality' feature incl. noot sear modelling several top designers incl. costa for CK. again if you like learning about the people behind the label names you may like this, Noot is generally a strong model although i wonder why she never broke through to top-top-fame?
I liked Nooty a lot 2 years ago but despite financial success she never became a big star despite a lot of promise.
otherwise I found the mag to be well art-directed & has a lot of cute little visual/lifestyle/decorating tips, but to me, its the kind of surface-level [!] mag that you breeze through in about 3 minutes and then put down in favour of doing something more important. like having a cup of tea or dancing to the radio or planning dinner reservations.
SO- sarah s fans MUST see the pics & maybe Noot fans too but from a consumer perspective- take a quick look but NOT ESSENTIAL PURCHASE.

** FRENCH ELLE Feb. 2005 GISELE Special. 100 pages of quality Gisele pictures incl. by jean-baptiste mondino, stephan sednaoui, carter smith.
the many gisele fans MUST buy this issue. if you love looking at gisele these 100+ pages will give you days of enjoyment.
smith's location pics are particularly pretty, like a strong bazaar location shoot. sedanaoui shoots some pretty sexy gisele, alot of flexing & jumping around & her body is of course nearly superhuman. repeat, EVERY Gisele maniac HAS to buy this issue it will make your week. OK now that Ive praised it so highly here's my zinger.... :woot:
over 100 pages you realize that gisele's literal physical modelling repertoire is limited. we've seen all of the moves before, especially in bazaar bikini shots when shes streching like jack lalanne or jumping like the floor is hot. admittedly her body is beyond impressive, its nearly miraculous, and imo she is a brilliant lingerie and swim model [the panty shots are emphasized here, much better lingerie than VS ever has] and her lingerie body is stunning, captivating. but apart from that surface/sexual level of gisele appreciation, i find her literal modelling and poses to be redundant and better suited to an anatomy/genetics class than high fashion. we all knows gisele's indecipherable hand signals, voracious mouth and her notorious hip swivel and fanny point- im afraid over 100 pgs she does NOT imo look like the best model at all. she looks like an athletic and genetically blessed basketball player gyrating and gesticulating in expensive clothes for a horny photographer. sedanoui's pics are arty & sweeet, smith's location shots are clean & happy....as a former gisele collector [circa 1998-99 bikini shots] I love only about 2 or 3 of the tight colorful panty shots. they are extremely hot and her body looks just out of this world. otherwise its a repettious 100 pages & quickly grew dull. the gisele obsessives [ad there are many] MUST own this french elle. for the rest of us....its just a few majorly hot panty shots & a lot of same old same old. :o
