Why do you like/hate Prada?

You know, I have seen quite a few girls like this browsing around on facebook...and these are COLLEGE aged girls, so around 18-22, entering adulthood. They claim they're into fashion, and it's not even so much that they enjoy brands such as Prada, Gucci, LV, whatever...but I seriously wonder if I can even have a serious conversation with them about the actual clothes.

lol thats so true - its like its cool to be associated with the brand.... by knowing its name.... even if you cant afford it... hey its not my reasoning so whatever.

but i just started a new school and everyone on their first day was introducing themselves and i said i was interested in fashion (along with half the other ditzy fake tanned blondes in the room). Afterwards one of them came up to me and said something like 'oh your just like me! i love chanel also!' and i was like yeah but i havent liked their last collections etc actually putting some input into the conversation.. and half way through she stopped me asked asked who karl lagerfeld was....

someone here said that it's brand 'we love to hate".

oh, yes! i enjoy the sensation of seeing something really ugly go down my favourite runway. it's humour, and it pushes taste into a different, more interesting territory. it's that signature prada "intellectualism".

now, many people on this thread have said that the "intellecualism of clothes is overrated, but why would a woman with a PhD waste her PhD? Kudos to Mrs. Prada for not resorting to blatant showing off of boobs and ***. the suggestionis much sexier.

ultimately, ask yourself this: are there many other brands of this caliber that got people talking without sex?

^ right on. i was trying to think of some input here - and found exactly what i wanted to say back on the 8th page!

and sorry about double post!:innocent:

I love prada because it's different and it's not commercialized. I love how Miuccia puts things together, I love the fabrics, and I love the designs. For all of you outthere that think Prada is boring, check out the bamboo wedges from the Spring 2006 Collection. Those are absolutely amazing!!!

prada doesn't over do it... they keep it simple yet classy and that is what i like.

as far as menswear...........I like that prada has clean lines, an usually her quirkiness comes through in fabrics (like the hearts and stars of late). Its stuff that looks good, and can be worn to work, on the street.

Most of the stuff from say........Dior Homme, I could not see myself wearing............for instance. Prada/Miu Miu I can see myself actually wearing it and looking good in it.

HOWEVER, I think it's become SOOOOOOOOO commercial right now. I hate that most of the bags that are made look cheap, and are so very easy to knock off. It's almost like Prada has saturated the market to some extent.

In the past few years.....I've grown less and less in love with Prada as a whole.

I like Prada because they are more focusing on things, like making their clothes more classy and elegant. That's what I love about Prada.

i think Prada suitcases are very bad quality ( should know bought sme )the rest of the stuff is pretty good but i find the brand overrated and over prized...

Prada is classic yet very original and quirky! I love Miuccia's ideas and visions... so inspiring! ...oh and shoes...:heart:

I *HEART* Prada - she makes some bags that never go out of style. Yet there are bags that set the stage. I've received compliments and one lady from a restaurant came up to me and asked me to see my black Prada bag and started to stroke it...then she asked where I got my bag because she wanted to buy it (even though I got it six years ago.) I can go to a Prada store and find things I like all the time. Sometimes I feel inspired by her pieces and even though I can't afford most of it, it is nice to admire.

I personaly love seeing Miuccia's work go down the runaway. Especially for the mens preview. My only distaste towards Prada is it's quality and price. Example their nylon carryalls, ranging from $500 and up. That is ridiculous, especially considering it's fabric, not to mention extremely tacky. I do love their men's shoes though, might even get a pair this season.

i love prada because it's intellectualism is not blatant but felt in the pieces. i love their clean lines but the cut and design make them interesting and innovative. i love prada because it's timeless and elegant. i love prada because unlike her other italian peers, she utilizes sexuality with such maturity that it's only suggestive but never vulgar. i love prada because it's not pretentious. and i love prada because miuccia is so adorable during her finales making the show more about the clothes and not her ego.

* i only don't like prada when it's on someone who makes it look cheaper and does not do the pieces any justice. but then again, it's the person's fault. nevertheless, i just really do love prada.

not a big fan of prada..its pieces are bored...but anyway they can be elegant sometimes..so i dont hate it.and i love miuccia as a person..but not a designer.lol.

The clothes, perhaps. But the stores seem to be a different issue...I remember an experience back in 2001, a family friend from overseas came to visit and we went shopping in NY, the Prada staff in the store we went to seemed quite snobbish, and gave our friend poor service until she pulled out a black AE card :innocent:

I had the same experience. When my friend and I entered the PRADA store, they didn't even say hello to us. Worst is when I tried the handbags and one of the girls looked at me from head to toe.

I couldn't find the price tag so I asked her...she gave me this disgusting look and a sarcastic answer (i'm-sure-you-can't-afford-it tone). i looked at her and gave her my biggest smile. And then I said "Do you have one?"

PS: I don't hate the designer. In fact, PRADA is one of my faves. It's the girl's attitude.

I only know Prada because everyone else does. But if my knowledge of Prada was based on how fashionable I think it is, I wouldn't know it at all.

I don't like the ads. Sasha looks like she wants to bite my head off... But the SS cruise line ads are surprisingly okay, she doesn't look like herself and by that, I mean she doesn't look like she wants to stab me and throw my body in the dumpsters.

I love Prada, all in Prada or MiuMiu will be fashion next season.

i loveee prada...her style is unique, without any logic but looks 2 good!!!

It's funny how defensive people are, like "Those f*ckers just wanna look cool with their fake f*ckin' handbags!" Well...of course that's why they buy 1,000 $ handbags! It's why we all buy such ridiculous, overpriced clothing! Honestly, it's silly to look down on people who buy Prada or reference Prada just because they think it's cool. That makes Prada successful. Prada is not famous because of Miuccia Prada's amazing, intellectual clothing. Prada is famous because of it's international line of immediately accessible, hugely expensive line of handbags and shoes. Fashion is a really insulated, closed world. Only a small group (i.e. those at tFS) can recognize designs and designers. We read French Vogue, they read Cosmo. It's not comparable. They just have different tastes and information.

On a separate note, I love Prada because its fit is always exceptional, no matter how outrageous the design or fabric. It 38 is always It 38, and I love them for it. I'm always angry at how many designer mislabel their sizes or have poor craftsmanship. I spent 4000$ on this dress, and now it's falling apart?! I also love Miuccia's genius way of being both anachronistic and entirely wearable.
