I don't really have a problem with fur or fur-wearers. I doubt it, but maybe someday I'll have a fur scarf or something, but that will probably be the extent of it. I realize that fur is horrible in that it kills animals, etc. etc. BUT, I don't want to say 'no' to fur if I continue eating meat, drinking milk, and wearing leather. So, I decided that it'd be way too much work to do all of that. And especially, I know a lot of anti-cruelty people say that it's easy to find alternatives to leather, but there are few shoes, bags, and coats without any leather on them, whether they are completely leather or just have accents. (Even the Prada nylon accessories have Saffino trim!)
Other than Stella McCartney (women's only), how many high-end designers do you know that specifically leave out animal products?

When I got into fashion and learned about Stella McCartney, it was actually her that got me thinking about this topic. I don't think I would ever wear fur. (However, I don't have such a strong dislike to it that I'll see a person wearing fur and start protesting.) Partly because I just don't like it very much and also because it is inhumane (IMO). But then again, I think about leather- it's still using animal skins- and how I'm not as objectionable to that. And how I would still love to have a Chloé Paddington... It's just that catch-22 with animals for foods also, but definitely to a lesser extent.

I dont like wearing fur I dont really care if its fake or real, if its really soft, and nice or whatever. I can only see someone wear fur on the runway or if they are on the red carpet but not out in the streets or at the mall I just think its too much and overdone fashion wise.

^ I agree, fur is rarely done well on the street. Unless someone wears it soo insanely, like this chick in a bikini at Mandalay Bay, it was scorching hot out, and she was wearing a fur hat...(under a cabana) I asked her why she said cause her hair is frizzy from the heat...

It was just so absurd, you can't help but love it...

I don't own any fur but not for ethical reasons
1) it doesn't suit me
2) it's expensive
3) most of it is seriously ugly (just my taste! :flower: )

I don’t have any fur-things… its 2 expensive 4 me L maybe in the future

wearing fur or not is a personal choice...do i wear fur-no, however, if you eat meat, wear leather, and consume/use products containing animal by-products than the argument gets a bit blurred.

I'm not sure I know what you mean (sorry my english isn't to good)

Little bit of fur 2 keep warm..........

I'm loving this trend (still) and have found some decent coats, jackets, etc, etc for the harsh winter. Just wondered whether this is a trend you like and what you have found...............

There's a trend about fur already :flower: Use the search engine, please.

There is an discussion thread about fur the 'Fur: Yes or No' thread, this is about owning fur (probably something like 'how do you wear fur')
It is not the same, though this thread is used as an discussion thread.

I'll admit, I eat meat (granted only fish), wear leather shoes and carry leather bags.

But...

I could NEVER wear fur. To a certain extent because of the moralistic contention, the cruelty involves and the social stigma. But mainly because its ICKY.

It's just icky... :yuk:

Some of the hypocrisy and double-sidedness display in this thread....just wow me. Honestly.

I own fur and mink that were passed down from my family. I eat meat. But I am always very careful and do research extensively about the origins. While choosing to eat cheese, milk or diary products with no regards to the meat industry and yet proclaiming one wearing fur is just hypocritical. It seems like human being choose what is more "adorable" to determine what should die or not.

Human beings do 'choose' what animal is more adorable, it is in our nature, the animals that are look more 'human' (in more ways than monkeys look like humans, like what kind of eyes/hair they have) It is something people can't really control, it is just natural for us to do.
I do wear fur, I love fur. I spend so much time in discuissing this on these threads, i don't feel like arguing anymore, but I agree with you.

I don't quite agree...I feel as bad for the cows and pigs as I do for the cute furry animals.

I like some fur coats, and "old school" fur. I dislike fur details. Fur should always be done in a classy way, it gets out of control easily.

I do not own any fur, and while I do hate the cruel way it is produced, I do eat meat and wear leather at same time, and if I'd be now praising about animal rights I would be a huge hypocrite...I wish I would actually believe that animal rights could be changed, maybe then I would put more effort to this subject. Unfortunately I think of people as more vain than human.

Probably not. Some fur coats can be beautiful....but I don't think I would actually wear it.....

I know what you mean, I have that to, I don't value an animal over an other, what I meant that most people do, because it is natural for us, most of us would kill a fly or an spider, but not a cat or a dog.
