I used to be totally against fur but that was just me repressing my wants.

I cannot resist something that feels so utterly fantastic.

Fur, leather and dangerously (but not fetishly) high heel shoes are my fetishes.

My friend bought a rabbit fur coat for like £15 in a charity shop the other day. It was in perfect condition. It was utterly beautiful. I hope she wears it.

i feel that vintage fur, from eras when it was acceptable and common to wear fur such as the 1940's is acceptable. I have been give a few peieces from my grandmother that i would deffinatley consider wearing (if i thought they wouldn't get ruined by eggs or paint!)
But i would never ever go out and buy a fur coat made recently from fendi or other designers that are still known for using it!

I feel the same. With vintage fur, you're not encouraging anything dreadful by wearing it, it's thirty years old at least and you're not funding any industry. New fur, frankly, makes me feel sick.

i've had quite a fancy for fur recently i dont know quite where its come from and then i got a vintage fake fur coat handed down to me that used to belong to my great grandmother and i love it. i'd quite like some of the real thing but thats a guilty pleasure:ninja: but i do love my real leather jacket fake leather just doesnt compare but i dont mind fake fur since its quite good in quality.

as for the issue of vintage vs. new fur items would you be buying current fur items 30 years from now? at the end of the day its still fur.

I wear fur, leather, silk, wool... etc. I've never really felt bad for the animals either :ninja:, which is horrible, I know, but animal rights has just never really been something I'm passionate about. I've seen all the videos PETA has to offer and still... nothing.

I would wear mink because I like the look of it and the warmth it provides, also if cared for correctly it can last forever. However, I would want to know the origins of any fur that I bought to know that the fur farms operated in accordance with european standards. And that as far as possible the animals were well cared for. In the same way that I choose to eat meat e.g. I will only eat organic/free range chicken. I wouldn't buy any fur that originated in China. I would not wear fox or chinchilla either. And probably if I watched a PETA video - I'd be a convert to the other side...

I feel exactly the same. It makes me think "Wow, i'm seriously even more cold-hearted than I thought." But that doesn't bother me in the slightest.

But
I also feel like I just couldn't go out and buy a new fur coat (if I had the money).
Why is this? Is it because like with new fur it is like recently deceased (like, one month roaming happily, next month flapping lifelessly on the runways)?

Awww. You see, there's a softie in there somewhere...
Of course real fur feels amazing. It's not that people who don't wear it don't get that...
I think it's great that people can admit they are only interested in themselves though. That's a big thing to 'fess up to. But in my experience these are always the same people who will complain when they are treated badly....
So I hope you don't expect to be treated with respect :innocent:

Err ... I hate to go all mother hen here, but I just wanted to mention that a lack of empathy is a really serious thing. It is at the heart of all crimes, and everything that's wrong with the world ...

Some people are just naturally more passionate about certain causes. Like how some people feel strongly about animals or trees and are activists, and then there are others who actually care about people, go figure. You cant FORCE yourself to care, and it doesn't make you a bad person or unfeeling or anything of the sort just. People are just different.

Ive done whole reports about animal cruelty and I think its sad to see them skinned alive and electrocuted and all, but its still not important to me.

And Crying Diamonds, there's nothing about what you said that is a "cause for concern".

Big YES on fur! I totally adore it. :flower: .. I'd rather just not think how it's obtained.

I'd kill for that fur scarf. I am absolutely in love with it.

take it or leave it

I think as people, we need to prioritise. Every time I get into a fur arguement, I bring up the same anecdote of me when I was 8 years old on a yearly trip to NYC in december.

We were at a pretty nice restaurant having dinner and obviously it was very cold out. A woman walks in with a very big fur coat, mink I believe, and suddenly, another woman in the back of the restaurant stands up outraged, demanding she remove the coat from her sight, swearing and making a huge scene. She was calling the other woman insensitive and heartless. Eventualy she stormed out, walking right passed a man sitting on the sidewalk freezing not even giving him a second glance.

Why was she so concerned with the animal's suffering, which was already a thing of the past, yet she couldn't even be bothered to look at the HUMAN'S suffering happening before her very eyes? How was that not insensitive and heartless of her?

I personally don't find animal rights something extremely important, as some members of PETA do... In fact, I find them quite ridiculous in comparison to some of the larger problems facing humanity at the moment.

So... that's just my two cents. :innocent:

Am I ill?

I'm not a Doctor, but a growing number of credible studies suggest that people who torture animals or witness this with indifference are far more likely to be violent toward other human beings and/or suffer from other anti social behaviour.
So while many people in this thread have said that they would wear fur, they have also expressed some sort of regret at how these animals suffer...even if it's just saying something like "I prefer not to think about it"...
It's something completely different IMO to have watched the horrific images and footage (I know I couldn't :sick::sick:) and boast that it has no effect on them whatsoever. Both yourself and another member have just claimed this....and I'm sorry I find that completely disturbing. :ninja:

Please stay on topic: would you or would you not wear fur.

Discussions of the politics of fur and the presumed mental state of people who wear or don't wear fur will be edited or removed at moderators' discretion.

Be respectful at all times.

i personally don't wear fur - with the simple reason that i cannot afford it. i wouldn't have a problem with wearing it though! recently i saw some really nice fur vests that i'd totally buy. however i also understand people's reasons for not wanting to wear it

That`s so true. I say definitely NO for fur. I don`t want to offend anyone, but I really think that there`s something wrong with people, who don`t care about animals and their rights the slightest bit. Not to go further on that, but I like furs on animals the best.

I'm an animal lover, and sure I wish animals weren't killed for fashion, but I'm not against wearing vintage fur... and leather will be made; It's inevitable. Hypocritical? Maybe, but realistic.. :ermm:
