^ Yes indeed. It is a great site. I had to double check, because I have a tone of their images on my PC from about 10 years ago, but I did double check and saw they were tagged with their FF and they do not like posting on 3rd party sites which I respect. Have many others I have scanned over the years in HQ from the Grosvenor ads, but I can't even ponder the crediting, so likewise, think that the "scanned by me" is not sufficient. I will just have to go back and reverify before posting.

Anyways, does someone have any info about Giambattista Valli´s fur collection this winter??

Last year they upload it on his website and got some press but so far no news about it, maybe got canceled with this whole recesion thing.

I sent a mail to them, asked me back if I owned a boutique and since I answered not they never replied back...

Well his last winter collection was astounding (I can't say the same for this winter's . .) maybe it was just an exception ? With those strangely shaped furs based on the wolf from Little Red Riding Hood . .
Though he's now at Moncler Gamme Rouge so I think that's pretty much Valli's fur collection. That's where all of his shocking volume and construction has gone.

3. I am tiny, and it is so fluffy and light, it makes me look a little bit like the michelin man.

That's a big problem with fur - if the proportions or the cut are wrong for your body, it adds a lot of bulk, even if you're small. You don't get the chance to try it on beforehand when you buy from ebay, and once you've got the coat, it's not always easy to make alterations to the item.

I think you'll have to be really honest with yourself, in terms of whether this particular piece of clothing suits you. Only you (and your mirror) will know if you can make it work - perhaps by giving your legs an ultra-high and skinny silhouette to provide a contrast to the wideness of the coat. Dark tights and architectural heels, ones that provide height without looking too traditionally tarty (you've got the coat, so you don't need your shoes to speak of sex).

If the coat really doesn't do you any favours no matter what you try, then it might be a case of finding other uses for the fabric. If it doesn't work as a coat, it might work as trims.

Obviously from my name, people can tell I like leather. I don't object to fur either.

I respect people's opinions and views, as well as don't force my opinions on you and would appreciate not having yours forced on me.

I also would ask that people who are more activist in some of these regards, research your orgs and understand what the people at the top believe. One of the most well known animal rights groups slaughters over 90% of the animals they rescue.

Likewise with leather, there is a large misconception that leather might be safer/nicer because the cow gets fully used for meat, leather etc. A fair portion of garment leather is specificially raised for that... The feeding and care of animals used to produce leather and be quite different than those used to provide food.

That is in fact what this thread is all about. Please be aware that the whole spectrum of views is welcome :flower:

We had a discussion about the PETA rescue scandal here awhile back. It's really too bad that they didn't come clean and explain what was going on. The thought did cross my mind that perhaps there were people who don't believe in keeping animals as pets involved.

My view on that is that we (humans and dogs) have been keeping each other company for thousands of years, and it's a tradition that suits us both well. I have said before that this is my fur style

^^^ Interesting fact about the leather industry... it certainly wont stop me from buying nice leather landbags.

^ I'm not sure anyone is suggesting we use dogs or other domestic pet animals for fur here... just saying we like the use of farmed fur and see no real difference to that and other farmed products!

That said... fur is a georgeous sexy feminine look... wearing it pleases me and hence why I do!!!

I completely agree. If you want to understand the scandal, do your research and look into the views of Ingrid Newkirk. I am happy to share offline to any who are interested.

Fur has really always had two styles in my eyes. One tends to be more fitted, and one is very very full. Shape with fur does affect the look greatly, and my best suggestion is to go to a furrier, even the Fur Vault at Neimans, try on different coats and get a sense of what you like. Furs can be very reasonably priced off season, especially if you travel to cities like Montreal, and also part of the biggest part of owning a fur, is proper storage to maintain the look and condition for years and years to come.

^ I am interested.

I may not have been quite clear about the picture of my dog. I have 3 fur coats at my house, each worn exclusively by its original owner  That is Cherry and her coat, and we get tons of compliments on it wherever we go.

I would be surprised if the 'balance' of animals farmed for their leather doesn't go to a rendering plant for eventual use in animal feed or something similar. That's what happens to poultry carcasses, etc. following the removal of chicken breasts, etc. for our consumption. There's a huge amount of 'waste' created, and these folks aren't slow to find a way to get someone else to pay them to take it off their hands.

Just to be clear fashionista... what your saying is the fur is best left on the animal then? In your opinion... which is fine by me!

I have a dog but see that so diferently from animals whos fur I wear like rabbit, or mink! Dogs are not farmed!

The issue can be a confusing one at best. The polar extremes are easy to understand, even though each side can see the other as completely nuts. As a late comer to the topic and one who has been greatly involved in the debate for years and years, I do have to commend all the commentors I have read for being respectful of others and dissenting opinions.

Don't know what it is as well. I have always tended to liked the fuller fox furs to the minks etc. Absolutely softest fur I have felt was shaved beaver up in Montreal

Rabbits function as pets, agricultural pests, a food source and are farmed for fur, so they appear to occupy every position, from disposable product to beloved companion.

Dogs are farmed in some places, and it can be very difficult to trace the source of every item made from, or trimmed with, fur, despite the reassurances of such industry initiatives/PR campaigns.

^ Some very valid points. Long and short, if you get ANYTHING made in China and Korea that does not state FOX fur, etc... It is DOG.

Especially when those fur trim hood jackets became popular a couple of years ago, there was a big scandal in Boston as they reported that most of the coats from a couple well know brands were sourced back to Chinese dog fur.

And as much as I enjoy Bambi with my scrambled eggs... Thumper is even better. There used to be an amazing restaurant in Montreal, Les Halles and they had an incredible "saddle of rabbit." Petite lapin tres magnifique!

The thing is when he presented his first fur collection last year among the news were the fact he had signed a five year contract with ciwi furs (Marni´s parent company who also manufactures for Cavalli, Fendi, etc...)

Crying Diamonds, are you talking about those dyed furs he presented on the catwalk for fall 2008 or his fur collection, which you can see on his website?

^ Yes. Have felt it as well. I suppose I would really have to do side by side comparisons to really make an accurate assessment.

^Well, actually they are very similar because chinchillas ar very soft due to the fact they do not have guard hair, only under wool, so since shaved beaver has only a fine layer of under wool, the feel is very close to one and other.

I def fancy something chinchilla next season...

My fur style is def on hold just now... It's just to hot.... anyone anywhere cold enough to still wear fur????

We have had some evenings in the 40s and have seen some fur vests around, but most of the furs in Boston are probably in storage by now.

I see Victoria Beckam was sporting fur last week... can you believe that girl... she is so stylish... and she must adore the luxuary of fur about her even in the summer!

Do you love fur enough to wear it even when it's mild.... I just find it a little to warm for me... But I know alot of my friends feel the cold more than me anyway!

WSG

I think it's because being inflammatory is against the rules, and stating a dislike of fur on a fur thread perhaps could cause upset to those that like it. Free speech isn't always a feature on forums on the internet because obviously people can just end up arguing with each other.
