^^^ I'm not quite sure what all that last few posts is to do with peoples fur style... but I guess it is def true fur is worn as a luxuary item in the main... but it is also extreemly feminine to wear and guys think very sexy on women... almost erotic!

So back to peoples fur style... if you wear fur... what's your style???

WSG

^ And btw ... "Your fur style" is meant to apply to both those who do and those who don't wear fur

And people's fur style might extend to creating their own garments, where to source it, how to piece it together, what's the best fur for the purpose they have in mind, interest in where it comes from, what they believe about the ethics of the industry, what's a good price for it, how to store it - that's all part of the experience of owning and wearing it, and working with it as a textile.

Given that (a) living things have to die to create it, (b) it's a textile that requires a good degree of care, and (c) it takes skill to work with it, a thoughtful approach is the respectful and practical way of handling the material. My fur philosophy is my fur style.

My fur style is good quality fake fur that doesn't involve something suffering and being slaughtered for no good reason other than vanity. For any human that has suffered in any way, I'm sure they can understand that unnecessary pain for something as useless as parading around in a carcass really isn't worthy of what that animal has gone through.

I am a vegetarian as well, so I practise what I preach.

I will say this though, vintage fur of age being reused, remodelled, recycled and remade into something is acceptable. It's still the product of suffering, but if it prevents more suffering for vanity than I'm thumbs up.

I can honestly say i've never come accross any fake fur that looks all that good!?!? Can you let me know where you get your's what you've got etc... as I'm up for looking at it and If I could get a few good quality pieces that looked the part i'd go for fake possibly too...

Just never found any nice looking fake that doesnt look plastically and not really layered properly like real fur... or as light!

WSG

Ah ha, no, I don't have much particularly lustrous looking fake fur. To me, owning real fur isn't a choice because I don't condone suffering for my own vanity. I honestly believe you could most probably buy some vintage fur and have it tailored to your requirements that would look fabulous and cost less than something new. Also, nothing paid with its life, which has to be a bonus.

i haven't found fake fur that's as light but i have found quite soft and smooth ones.. if you are looking for a black faux fur, something that doesn't have intricate patterns like a real animal's skin, it's easy to find..
actually here the faux fur are quite expensive, a metre is like $50+

Good fake fur material is expensive, you don't see much of it on the high street because everything's made from the cheapest materials the stores can source, so you come to associate 'fake fur' with 'awful'.

One of my favourite fakes is a textured leopard print coat, where different shades in the print are different lengths - though when it gets the rain on it, you have to brush the pile straight with a thin-toothed comb.

I have another fake fur that's a silvery-blue chubby, which has many tones running through each hair, so you get a sense of denseness, but without the weight.

i would love to know for all the people who wear faux fur
how do you feel in it after several hours?
is it hot?
because often people complain about manmade materials as not breathable and making them sweat. for myself i produce a lot of static electricity when wearing 100% ones.

Your exactly right... I had a fake fur coat... and I ended up ditching it as I always got a bit sweaty in it... my real fur just doesn't do that! Just so much lighter and airier... whilst being much more ultra lush and cosy!

I bought a fantastic vintage white/grey fox fur coat on ebay the other day -£42 all in! I feel much more comfortable buying vintage fur- even though I don't condemn fur in general -you can get beautiful fur dirt cheap vintage and fewer animals die. Some of my friends think vintage fur is sick because of the initial suffering, but I don't follow that -we don't tear down the pyramids because they were built as vanity projects by slaves..

Anyway, the fur is beautiful, beautiful quality. But there are a number of issues:

1. Cigarette stink. I have pretty much fixed this now through very careful use of febreeze (I know, it's not ideal, but I kept on misting it lightly over the course of a week and now it no longer smells of cigarettes and the lay of the fur hasn't been affected)

2. Can't wear it out. Mostly because it's summer. But when it becomes winter, it will be a UK winter, and there will be too much rain for a fur coat! Also because I am a teeny bit worried about the WHITENESS of the fur and how bad it would look with red paint on it.

3. I am tiny, and it is so fluffy and light, it makes me look a little bit like the michelin man.

See, my fur style is full of confusion!

^ Wow what a bargain! People tend to go mad for fox on ebay I've noticed - congrats!

Number 2 is my problem too! Maybe you could keep it for best ? Though I never do that . . Wait until those awful face-bitingly cold (but dry) days in the winter and then wear it - people can only be jealous then
I've bought so much of it from people selling it cheaply come summer and I'm dying to wear it . .

Well it seems the biggest fur fans herald from the U.K.!

1. Hang it outside for a bit next time!
2. Big umbrella
3. Heels

^ Got it sussed then!!!!

I cant believe someone sold you something on ebay and sent it to you stinking of smoke... leave them bad feedback!!!

I bet they never said in the advert... btw im a smoker and although this jacket is lush and soft... it stinks!

I have a gorgeous fur coat that was my mother's.. I only ever wear it for fancy dress.. I'm vegetarian and I feel it's kinda wrong if I go about wearing fur...

I'm happy to wear fake fur though, as I still think it looks stylish!

^^^ For me fake fur is a no go area... I've never seen a nice stylish fake fur yet... all just look awful and cheap to me... If you know there is nice fake fur out there i'd consider it... but i've never seen one yet... Im just so anti fake anything though...

Obviously from my name, people can tell I like leather. I don't object to fur either.

I respect people's opinions and views, as well as don't force my opinions on you and would appreciate not having yours forced on me.

I also would ask that people who are more activist in some of these regards, research your orgs and understand what the people at the top believe. One of the most well known animal rights groups slaughters over 90% of the animals they rescue.

Likewise with leather, there is a large misconception that leather might be safer/nicer because the cow gets fully used for meat, leather etc. A fair portion of garment leather is specificially raised for that... The feeding and care of animals used to produce leather and be quite different than those used to provide food.

^ Great post!!

I am not a furrier but love fur and have done some work with it and since then I am constantly on that debate over and over again, and I always get the same feeling of people´s misunderstanding thowards this whole issue, and lack of true facts and information, that at the end is so exhausting and pointless to even start a discusion.

Anyways, does someone have any info about Giambattista Valli´s fur collection this winter??

Last year they upload it on his website and got some press but so far no news about it, maybe got canceled with this whole recesion thing.

I sent a mail to them, asked me back if I owned a boutique and since I answered not they never replied back...

I have always loved the look... Perhaps some of it too is some of the first images I can remember are the Grosvenor Ads from the 80s that featured Cindy Crawford and Geena Davis among others. Just found the look stunning and as well, particularly in the 80s, you way a lot of mixing of leather and fur.
