In poorer countries poachers get a lot of trade from rich, buisiness men. They kill rare, endangered animals for fur, carpets, meat, herbal 'medicine'. It's sickening. Everytime I see Kate Moss in that horrific gorilla fur coat it makes her look so horribly ugly inside and out. They're such intelligent, emotional , aware creatures but she just wears it like it's another coat from Marc Jacobs or something. I don't understand why Sadie Frost is friends with her. Good model but rotten person.

faux fur is just not the same as the real thing - go into a store and try both, I guarantee you will know the difference.

I love fur.

I saw a friend of mine today and she was wearing the most gorgeous black astrakhan (persian lamb) peacoat w/ silver chinchilla cuffs and BIG collar, it was gorgeous...It was Fendi.

I also fell in love w/ a leather coat at Fendi w/ a HUGE notched silver fox collar, it was heaven.

Needless to say real fur looks and feels fabulous but I won't wear real fur, I'm just being PC.

Doesn't mean I don't appreciate the rich luxurious softness but I can't bear the thought of animals killed just to keep me looking good. If I'm stuck out in the woods somewhere waiting to be rescued, I'd wear FUR all over, inside and out! If for purely sartorial reasons, I guess I can pass on it.

I don't own any fur, but I think as long as it's vintage, it's ok, but I'm against new fur. Vintage fur seems justifiable to me.

im the same. i mean theres nothing you can do when the animal was killed so many years ago, but if u stop urself from buying fur now then that would hopefully stop people from killing these animals

but i do think that if people dont want to wear animal skin, they shouldnt be wearing anything thats leather, and they shouldnt eat meat. Ive met so many people who are all high and mighty oh i dont wear fur its so bad then they go and wear leather, and then they justify it by saying that cows arent in danger, and theyll be killed anyway but if thats the argument and they want to protect endangered animals they should be more proactive and try and pass laws instead of throwing flour on people

if someone threw flour on me i would be more persistent just to piss them off

i didnt even know who peta was until they started jumping onto catwalks
crazy people

^ i know what you're getting at but i think a lot of people aren't so black&white about it. myself included.

i don't wear fur and don't judge people who do. i'm not one of those crazy paint-spillers (that's totally uncalled for and yes i agree if i were a target of some fanatic activist, i might retailiate with wearing even more furry stuff). i believe that eveyone has the freedom of choice, you can disagree, voice your opinion and then shut up and keep the peace.

personally if i happen to buy something which i thought was faux but turned out to be real, i wouldn't trash it. i'd gladly wear it. i don't have oodles of money to throw away a perfectly good piece of clothing. likewise leather goods last a long time so i would buy and own lots of leather items because of the value of wear it gives me.

however to go as far as to suggest someone who doesn't wear fur to also not eat meat, use leather etc just to support their non-fur beliefs is well a little extreme in my opinion

oh and innocent fairy, much karma. I see the human being/animal argument as you. I think human beings have the ability to reach this higher consciousness.. a more surreal and spiritual enlightened state that other species probably could never reach, but alas, we are nowheres NEAR close to it. At least animals keep to themselves, behave in accordance to the natural order, they don't f*ck things over by being like the homo sapien who feels they have some God Given right to take whatever they please and stomp their feet over everything and everyone else, mostly for their own futile pleasures. Oh if only the other thousands of species could talk.... I bet they'd talk in circles around us.

Its so lovely to see another individual with their eyes wide open :flower:

absolutely not!!!
It is soooo 5000 years ago!
We don't need it because we will freeze to death otherwise..
it is so cruel and awful how they hunt for the animals
or keep the animals in tiny cold windy dirty wet cages.

But leather does not come from the same cows they use for meat.
There are meatcows and leathercows and milkcows!
Because they treat them otherwise like the food and the care and stuff.

An absolute firm NO from me.

Even touching it makes me shudder. It's as if I could hear the once cute little furry animals scream... no. I personally can't bear it.

I don't own any fur as of yet but I'd be happy to wear it; I love the luxurious feel of it and I'm not really for animal rights so it doesn't bother me.

I think it is everyone's personal thing whether they do decide to wear fur or not. I do know about the cruel way they treat animals, which does put me off but not so much as to stop wearing leather etc. But with fur, I have to admit I do not like the look at all. Only in very few cases a fur coat looks nice. Otherwise I think it looks a little bit dirty.

I used to be totally anti-fur, until I saw a tv programme about chicken farms...those poor chickens are electrocuted so we can eat them...and since I'm not about to become a vegetarian or abandon my calf leather chloé boots I might as well wear fur. It's not like the animals used for fur are any worse off than chickens or other food-animals...

I'm not vegetarian nor am I vehemetly against the use of animal byproducts. But when the topic turns to the idea of killing animals soley for the purpose of looking nice, I do have to draw a line. Yes, fur is warm but so are many other things. Leather is durable, that's why I can understand the use of that. But fur at this point just seems to be needless killing so people can bahe in some sense of false luxury.

Real fur or Faux fur, it doesnt matter. It will always look tacky in my eyes.

I find fur a little tacky in most cases too...I'm not really sure how I feel about fur trim and such but I don't own any at the moment, real or faux.

I'm a vegetarian but I love leather, I don't feel guilty about it because I take care of my leather pieces and use them often, some like my tote bag and my gloves (this time of year) I use every day. I don't feel like I'm being wasteful and while I'm sure the animal that went into making my bag or shoes did not live a fulfilling life I'm grateful for the quality of the items I buy and it may even be more environmentally friendly than buying synthetic things that I'd have to replace more often. Also, being a natural product, I think leather is probably better for me to be wearing than some synthetics but I really don't know much about this.

Fur coats are usually grotesque. I was looking on the Louis Vuitton website and found some black mink ear muffs which I love. I think if I were to buy fur (I haven't yet), I would buy a small accessory only. More than that looks tacky in my opinion, never mind the animal rights issue

exactly, karma!!
animals are killed everywhere: for food, for fur, for leather, for scientific research
i'm vegetarian, and i wear fur. every time someone comes up to me and complains about dead animals, i just point out that they eat meat. more animals are killed for food than for fur. of course, if you're a hard core animal rights activist, that's a different story. you can lecture me all you want. but for everyone else, the hypocrisy makes me sick

it's very arguable that meat is a needless luxury (i am NOT here to try to make everyone vegetarian, i'm only doing this for the sake of argument). i don't eat meat, i'm still alive. fur is warm but there are other things... meat is yummy but there are other things as well.
of course, there are more meat-lovers out there than fur-wearers, so i'm expecting a lot of angst...
