Alexander McQueen S/S 2023 London

^^^ Frankly, McQueen/Galliano/Gaultier’s supreme level of unmatched creative artistry, masterclass craftsmanship and overall design vision during the late-90s/early-2000 simply wouldn’t have a place in today’s industry. Even the remaining superior craftsmen like Theyskens/Haider/Ghesquiere wouldn’t compare to the former masters in unbridled creative vision.

It’s not even fair to compare someone at the colossal height of his talent, working at a time when creative vision was paramount and unconditionally supported even by the corporate handlers— to these soulless corporate days, and having to meet the commercial demands of appeasing the lowest of standards of a mass consumer. Even McQueen the man himself would likely have to kowtow to such demands, if he were still alive and working these days. These are such dire fashion days, I can’t imagine anyone who’s obsessed with the brand of otherworldly and impossibly high standards as McQueen had— along with his provocative and confrontational nature of presentation, would exist, let alone find steady work in 2022.

These sorts of overly-bloated but creatively-empty shows are a huge disservice to Sarah’s quiet and disciplined but razor-sharp display of tailoring. And that’s her talent of which, she’s been able to showcase more and more, fortunately. And that’s the best thing to have happened to this brand with her. I get that many don’t care for just strong tailoring, but that doesn’t mean she’s untalented. Maybe not so much in this offering, although it’s still there— if you can get pass the less appealing design aspects of the collection: Like that monstrosity on Naomi, looking like some severe skin disease with that pattern and color-palette. My skin is crawling being reminded of Greyscale... Why dress a woman in the same shade of prickly sequins/embellishments as her skin tone????

Just because Sarah was his right hand doesnt mean much. This is so boring, and so ooooold!!!
