Alexander McQueen S/S 2024 Paris

Up till now… this collection feels a lot like a “retrospective” of Sarah Burton’s work at Alexander McQueen… the first look with the slash shoulder from her very first collection after taking the helm, the rose motif from the T-shirt prints in earlier collections, the more “straight” version of the Curve bag, the peplum leather belts… (her first collection was referenced quite a bit in this hmm…)

The laundromats are going to be so “excited” about the fringed looks (or whatever you call them)… :zany:

And oh there’s a v*g*na dress ermm…

(Anyway I am getting really annoyed at the fans in the Youtube Live Chat nobody gives a d*mn about your idol seriously… and just curious who are the kids at the show? Burton’s?)

Edit: Yes seems like the kids are hers…

This may have been a "greatest hits" collection, but it's appropriate considering that this is Burton's swansong and the brand's 30th year anniversary. The finale song had me ugly-crying as I was watching it in public.

Honestly i had a tear in my eyes watching the show.
Strange, because i never was a die-hard fan of hers, but i will miss her.
So cute how she hugged her three kids at the end - and after that came Pinault and Elle Fanning.
There was a lot going on in the collection. too much. but i loved the fringes coming out of the applied brush strokes on the dresses. The shoes were killer (literally... as the model in the red flamenco-fanny-dress struggled so much that she was helped walking out by Liu Wen and another model).
The cast looked great, loved the slick look, even on Naomi. But she was not really necessary to be there and close this extraordinary chapter of Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen.

i feel like Sarah has been so contrived trying to respect her mentor/friend's legacy designining for the brand. This collection, i felt like she finally pushed herself out of the Mcqueen codes in some looks. I think this was one of her strongest and most confident collection. Didn't rely too much on frou and just focused on technique and tailoring as she should. Loved that one tailored denim look.

Really wish someone takes her and wish the best for whoever replaces her.

She went out with a fizzle.

It may have been a retrospective collection, but it's completely characterless. I was really hoping we'd get even a drop of the chaos and mania that made this brand so brilliant. I'm happy for Burton but it was definitely time for her to move on.

I don't actually think anyone would be a good fit in this brand. It's too rooted in Lee for anyone to be a suitable 'replacement'. Although I'd love to be proven wrong.

This is truly the end of an Era for Kering. Sara, the last of Lee's vassals who had a personal connection to him has left the house.

I felt nostalgic seeing her last bow on the runway, even Anna was quite sentimental when she hugged Sarah.

Sarah deserves her flowers at the end of her tenure. She did what she could and managed to propel the house at the start and rigours of the 21st century. She made it into a proper luxury House.

I actually love this collection. It’s one of her better ones. I was never a huge fan. But her clothes are fantastically made, it’s a joy to watch her craft. I’m
Happy that she had a good run

This was beautiful, she was a great fit for the brand and kept his legacy alive in a world of generic people pleasing fashion. Curious to see what the next designer does.

"Heroes" by David Bowie has also been played at the farewell song to Karl's lat Chanel show so made me very emotional. She deserves all the best for simply being humble and hardworking designer. She left big shoes to fill by not only elevating the house but also for creating strong and recognizable vocabulary - an order from Lee's romantic chaos.
