All About Internships and Work Experience Placements

i'm only 14 but i've emailed and phoned soooo many magazines but all of them said you had to be 18. i don't know what i'm supposed to do really, even my local newspaper said no. i'm really determined to get work experience but i doubt anybody would take me on as i'm so young. next year when i'm 15, in year 10, at school we get to go on a 2 week work experience placement of our choice, so i thought i'd apply early. but no luck. i don't know what to do now, can anybody help? nobody wants to take on a 14/15 year old :(

oh you're definitely too young for this profession even if it's just internship.
hmmm... reading too much tfs? lol kidding ...
you have plenty of time , just be patient.

i couldnt disagree more. if she wants to go out and phone as many companies as possible all the power to her. im sure that shell find one. it may take a while but she'll do it. and even if she doesnt it'll just make a better story when she does get it at a later date. i really dont enjoy seeing how naive people can be when it comes to age on this site. i was around 14 too when i first looked at internships, although i didnt get any that was 5 years ago. a lot has changed and i think you need to be a bit more motivating.

We have one high school girl (16) who is interning at our company, but she got the position through connections alone. She's a good worker, though. My friend interned at the Met at age 16/17. So it does happen, just not very often.

yes, shirleebee 16 perhaps is the start but depends on the company.

*14-15 is just too young unless you help around your family's business or in america , you do paper route.

*i have never hire interns 14-15 yr olds and i don't think i will ever. it's too young, imo.

Just a question, I want to intern towards the end of my college years and I was wondering how difficult it is to balance interning and school? I want to possibly end up at a school in NYC once I transfer and try to get interning work(teen vogue ,nylon ,etc.).

Question: I have an interview for an internship next week, is that a good thing? Does anyone know what i should wear?

Congrats MarcSebastian! Where did you find all the info on those internships? Are they posted on the designer's websites?

I think that it's fantastic that you're already hunting around and putting yourself out there at your age, but at the same time I do feel that you are still a bit too young. Wait atleast two more years, I'm sure there will be more chances of you landing an internship when you're 16. ;)

A few words of advice; Enjoy your childhood, you'll have plenty of countless years to be enslaved by the work place. ;)

yea its fashion related, sorry i didnt know u were asking that type of question.

contination ....

*the safari wrap skirt picture = i prefer the ensemble as well as the other 3 pictures on the same row but excluding the ruffled blouse
* the cotton wrap blouse picture = i like the ensemble
* the white dotted blouse picture = i like the ensemble but prefered without dots on blouse. it can be a distraction. you can't have that on the interviewer.
* the BRMonogram puffed sleeve printed top picture = i like the ensemble. but preferred solid to prints for interview.

***Don't wear wild prints.

these are just examples on an interview in a fashion related company. it doesnt have to be from Banana Republic. You can pretty much get similar ensemble at other stores.
