Who needs Asian designers when you have Edward Crutchley.
Apparently the designer and his team have been thoughtful with his casting
right from the get-go, before starting runway shows.

Clearly Crutchley has reference the East far too many times (one of his signature),
but who could blame him. Respect and responsibility goes hand in hand with creative expression
in cases such as this, and it goes a long way with the messaging of the brand.

Let's not skip a beat here.

Sometimes there are more Asian models because of the designer.
Maybe. True in some instances.

Or perhaps it's the setting. Staging the show 960 km from its original home of Milan,
we saw the brand's best outing with six Asian faces. What gelled this season
with Asian models and the collection, who even cares right now?

Maybe it's best to present the show elsewhere
and take some distance from Milan (a city we all know too much about and MOC).
At least there's more hope since Long came into the picture, and whether
he steer which direction, let's just soak this all in while we can with positivity.

Xiao Wen Ju's L'Oreal contract expired in 2017.

Yeah there's no way she could've done MAC and still be with L'Oreal. (Although I must wonder why can't they keep both Xiao Wen and Ming - besides repping China they are two completely different girls with looks and personality. Xiao Wen was actually great and gives a different vibe that any company could use. And Ming has yet to offer her full potential which is quite exciting, she look good so far.)

Xiao Wen will bow out after SS18, was giving her time to "properly leave" with any last remnants that could be lingering.

Luping also got the Juicy Couture fragrance campaign

Since the product is already on sell over the counters and there's no citing that it's for FW18 specifically(?), I just added to her summer list.

Lanvin, a fashion house that has Asian owners had never featured Asian models for their campaigns. This would never happen if it were to own by Black owners. I don't know why the people who hold so much power don't make an effort to give Asian models more exposure.

Agreed. But those business tycoons are all about $$$ and their interests, and I'm not sure if they care or aware that that even matter, whether Lanvin were to feature Asian faces or not. Don't think they'd get involve and leave this topic to the creative folks (I think).


I raised a similar situation with Michael Kors and Silas Chou, who he and his wife usually sits front row at his shows when he was an investor/shareholder of Kors' company. I wondered and figured he could've been an influence for the Kors group by featuring Ming/Tianyi/Jihye/Shu Pei in their B-side campaigns. He's no longer associated with the brand now IIRC.

Even though Chou isn't part of Kors, Michael and other brands are still promoting themselves in China regardless, and they do have Asian/Chinese ambassadors and whatnot but again, not in campaigns yet (unlike Armani/Bally/Coach/Gucci).

China's luxury market still growing and their economy will surpass to greater height/expectations. Think we'll see more Asian faces fronting these global campaigns soon, at a slow pace.
