Aspiring Fashion Designers Lookbook, Post your Work. (See Post #1 before posting.)

My dream is becoming a designer. I love fashion! I have a lot of pictures os dresses and complements...

Welcome to tFS, Creative!

If you have pictures you've drawn of your designs, this is the place to post them ... we'd love to see them.

This is for a project that I have to do for school! I'm not going to wear it in real life ;)

i would love to share more stuff in the future, this is a gown based of of marie antoinette, that i made at my RISD summer program, its completely paper (lace japanese paper, and embossed brocade japanese paper) from bust to hem, i also made the hair headpiece to give my (fantastic) model huge hair with birds and brooches on it!

hi guys, i've been really impressed with everything i've seen on here. anyway, i've always been passionate about fashion, but of late, i've taken to making jewelry. i just wanted to get opinions on a few things i made. if possible, any ideas on how to get going on maybe selling pieces. i was thinking ebay. anyway, i really wanted feedback, if anyone wants to comment.

thanks in advance.

Review My Sketches? (image heay)

im not sure if this is the right place to post this but it was the only place i saw art so i guess its ok?

First let me start by saying "hello!" this is my first post and boy am i happy to finally get here
i've been lurking forever and finally got an invite from one of my friends. i feel like i could really use the insight and advice on this forum to better my fashion art and my chances at getting into FIT~i do want to go there~so anyway i just wanted to get the introduction out of the way and now i can tell you about my sketches.

currently i decided on the name Devon(devin)Devoré for my line of clothes. i chose that because those are the 2 names that my name is often confused with(my name is Devore~De-Voor~) so thoughts on the name are appreciated as well. as a brand i want to have a high fashion brand that can create trends or do them better. i also want it to be accessible. like im not gonna have outrageously priced things all the time. what got me into fashion in fact was casual street brands I.E LRG,Sean John, Rocawear, Artful Dodger, etc etc. those brands helped push me in this directions because i felt i could this clothing thing to. so anyway with my clothes i hope to do different things and shock people or revisit old trends and try and make them better or ride a new trend and make that better. my favorite label is Balenciaga hands down. i love their designs and ideas. that one funky looking shoe with all those colors and pieces really made me stop and say "wow". so you may see some influence by them. sorry for my random all over the place speaking haha im just really excited.
anyway heres my sketches. im drawing like 5 collections at a time lol so excuse all the randomness of colored and uncolored drawings.

my first collection is....
black and gold
this was my first time drawing fashion figures so they still bear the comic book shapes im used to drawing...
fashioncolor007.jpg

very simple dress~the white part is suppose to be black

fashioncolor008.jpg

this dress is like a ruffly dress and again white part is suppose to be black

fashioncolor009.jpg

this is like a catholic school girl skirt. white space=black

fashioncolor010-1.jpg

this was drawn after i saw that dress madonna had on lol not sure if this is wearable but i guess its fun.

fashioncolor011.jpg

a form fitting party dress. nothing special.

fashion023.jpg

i wanted this to be a mix of materials so i thought of it as satin on top and cloth on the bottom in a ruffly gathering lol. the belt is suppose to look like a scarf with metal gold painted belts to hold the belt

fashion024.jpg

this dress is a corset on top and then is covered with a black fabric that has a gold sheen to it. theres also gold piping on the dress that cuts into it giving it a raised effect

fashion001-1.jpg

this is a more casual look. forgive the pencil i did color it i just didn't scan yet. its a wool poncho with a gold collar and then a simple shirt with a gold belt and gold latex leggings.

fashion002-1.jpg

im not to sure about this dress-it feels very costumy and i did make some changes to it. scan later

fashion003-1.jpg

this is a pleated dress with gold belt things around it. no other way to explain :/ the dress is pleated all the way around.

now its time for the shoes
thers this one which i have colored but no scan yet
fashion004-1.jpg

and then these
fashioncolor012.jpg

since it was my first TIME designing fashion sketches i thought these were appropriate also they add some drama to the relativley plain dresses

well thats all ill show for now i do have more but i dont wanna overload the thread.
my other collections im working on include~
Peacock in the forest
Futuristic
Kabuki Samurai geisha

im ready for critiques!! harsh as possible i can take it :)

Welcome, DevonDevore! Thanks for posting the sketches of your designs. I have a few suggestions that I hope will be helpful to you.

If something is supposed to be black, I think there should be some indication of that on the sketch instead of your having to explain it. Pictures speak a thousand words.
Color is your friend.
Add fabric and materials samples to your presentation.
I see the shape of your design, but I don't see how you are going to accomplish the form. Consider adding more tailoring lines to show your concepts of construction.
When you are working on one collection, it might be better to use the same drawing media like conte crayons, colored pencils, pastels, specific pencils... seeing your designs in black pen line drawing, then painted, then in pencil... it's distracting to my eyes.
Remember that you are not going to be there to explain the contents of your portfolio. Your presentation must speak for itself.

A tFS guideline is to post no more than six images at a time. It helps speed up rendering of the images. Also, you will probably get a lot more feedback from people if you ask a mod to move this thread to "Careers & Education".

one thing i would add would be to make sure to elongate your figures a bit more

Stylist looking for new designers...
Hi,

I am a stylist studying at London College of Fashion and I am currently working alongside a live client to produce test shoots based on the theme of the future and how fashion and technology are combined.

Therefore, I am seeking any fashion/jewellery/accessory design students who would be interested in allowing me to “pull” their garments or products in this shoot.

Ideally, the concept of your work should be futuristic, however, if it does not please
still contact me as I am also interested in gathering an array of styles.

Benefits will include, the opportunity to have your work photographed by a professional photographer, which you can keep for your own portfolio.

please contact me at [email protected]

Thank you

Oh and i would love to designe shoes aswell. Do you think going to a really good high school helps? because i just got in to the best high school in melbourne Macrobertsons Girls High School years 9-12 and im hesitating about going b'cos im scared when i come out i wont want to be a fashion designer anymore.

if your school has courses in sewing and fabrics (or other fashion-related courses) it really helps
and if it helps you get internships

other than that, it's what you do after high school, which will help you too

welcome to tFS voguelover
hope to see more of your work!

thanx. no they dont have fashion as a subject but they do have visual communications and design but thats more advertising. yeah and you will see more of my work... im drawing some right now...
