We started to get into this topic a bit in the 4-5 piece "French" wardrobe thread, so I'm starting this thread so we'll have an appropriate place to discuss it

I'm going to suggest that at least 3 astrological placements affect personal style: your sun sign, your rising sign, and your Venus. Here's a website where you can check out your chart: www.astro.com

Note: It's helpful to have your birth time. If you don't have it or can't get it (it should be on your birth certificate & be relatively accurate), you won't be able to determine your rising sign (or it'll be challenging). But other placements you can get by running a chart for the beginning and end of your birthday. Usually all the placements will be the same.

Mine are: Sun in Leo, Sagittarius rising, Venus in Virgo.

yay! thanks for starting this thread ta-ta~!
i was totally impressed with HiHeels's translation of Leo (for purdles)...

I wonder how the sun sign/rising sign play out in terms of clothes...
like, the rising sign has to do with how you seem to others, right?

I'm Libra rising, Capricorn moon and Sag sun...

ok, so i took this from your blog (which i love), HiHeels:
sagittarius: optimistic, freedom-loving, good-humored, straightforward, intellectual, careless, superficial, restless
libra: urbane, romantic, easygoing, sociable, indecisive, easily influenced, flirtatious, self-indulgent
capricorn: practical, prudent, humorous, patient, careful, reserved

it kind of describes how i can be all over the map with my style...
i veer from 'practical and reserved' to 'flirtatious' to 'freedom-loving and careless'
on a good day, it all blends together into something that feels like 'me', but sometimes i get stuck in one vein...

Some info on Saggy rising from cafeastrology.com:

  • The world is filled with new things to experience
  • Grand schemes
  • Willingness to explore and experiment
  • "Sagittarius rising people have opinions about everything, and they just love telling others exactly what they are"
  • A way of moving about that at least exudes a certain level of confidence
  • "One of the most obvious and endearing traits of Sagittarius rising is their willingness to keep up a sense of humor. Even when they're feeling low, they manage to find humor in life and have fun with whatever they do have."
  • "The placement of Sagittarius' ruling planet, Jupiter, will give more clues to how they go about expressing themselves." Mine is in Leo ... same as my Sun, which I think is why I was confused about how my rising sign was expressing itself!
So here is how I think this is expressed ...

  • I do like to try new things--I always want to do something new & different each season
  • I totally identify with Barneys' "Taste Humor Luxury" slogan--in fact, you could say that each of the placements I identified corresponds to one of the words in this slogan  I love clothes that express humor. Polka dots. I used to have a t-shirt with a great big Beetle and its headlights  A sweater with watermelons on it ... etc.

Btw ... the reason I suggest looking at your Venus placement is that Venus rules beauty (and I think taste). I have also read that many fashion designers have Venus in Virgo (which is all about discrimination--the good kind).

Sun in Gemini, Moon in Aquarius • Ascendant in Sagittarius, Jupiter in the Third House • Moon in the Second House • Sun in the Sixth House • Sun Opposition Ascendant • Mercury Opposition Ascendant • Venus in the Seventh House • Saturn in the Twelfth House

It sounds all too positive: "You have been promised a happy relationship with a very attractive, lovely, and pleasing person," "In dealings with others you have great magnetism, and you should profit psychologically from this," "you display abilities well above the average public mentality,"

This part is extremely true however: "...you are easily impressed by people you meet and hope that they will be similarly impressed with you. You attract powerful individuals with strong egos who always try to gain dominance over you. Without realizing it, you are showing that you doubt your own significance, in the hope that others will reassure you." Except I do realize it.

As for any clues to my style, I still have to think about that... (yes, I do know which subforum I'm in :P)

^ so, jennifer, since you have the same rising sign as I do, what do you think of my post above? And where is your Jupiter?

Btw, you want to scroll down the page to the part called "Planetary positions." You want the planet & sign.

Aah, good call! I've got it:

Planetary positions
planet sign degree motion
Sun Gemini 7°25'59 in house 6 direct
Moon Aquarius 19°27'36 in house 2 direct
Mercury Gemini 14°47'54 in house 7 direct
Venus Cancer 9°00'33 in house 7 direct
Mars Capricorn 22°23'23 in house 2 direct
Jupiter Pisces 19°48'48 in house 3 direct
Saturn Sagittarius 6°20'00 in house 12 retrograde
Uranus Sagittarius 20°55'39 in house 1 retrograde
Neptune Capricorn 5°09'24 in house 1 retrograde
Pluto Scorpio 5°06'52 in house 11 retrograde
True Node Aries 29°19'14 in house 4 retrograde
I wholeheartedly relate with the desire for experimentation, and inclination toward 'grand scemes'; fashion is a form of constant experimentation for me, though there is definitely an underlying cohesiveness, and very little uncertainty. I do definitely love the Taste, Luxury, Humor motto and have related to it on more than one ocassion, even though my definition of luxury is often atypical, and taste is a given. :P I am pretty fearless in what I wear, which does appear as confidence! But it's more like a devil-may-care attitude. ^_^ What does it mean that my Jupiter's in Pisces?

I used to be religious about these stuff back then, now I am half and half on it.

They are a great entertainment at times still.

um, i think this is my new favorite thread because not only do i love fashion but i love astrology! i used to do people's charts and stuff in college

i am sun in cancer, moon in aquarius, rising sign is virgo and venus is leo -- a real mix!

i used to explain the relationship between these aspects are being a little like this: your rising sign is sometimes the "first impression" of your character, or the instinctive lens through which you view or process the world. your sun sign is often your character -- what you value or how you express your dominant energy. your moon sign is often considered your hidden side, your shadow, your unconscious, or the side of yourself that becomes known only by those who are intimate with you. your venus is often your romantic nature, or rather the part of you that craves beauty, art, romance.

i've never thought about fashion and how it relates to astrology before, but i do see aspects of it in my personal style. with virgo being so precise, modest, discerning and often called "picky," i think this is definitely reflected in the fact that i veer towards more refined, unfussy clothes and practical shapes, and prefer a clean, uncluttered look with not many accessories. cancer is a imaginative, emotional, moody sign for whom family and home are important, and i think this is reflected in how i like to wear things that have a bit of coziness to them and that the only jewelry i really wear has sentimental or emotional value for me. (also, i gravitate towards typically cancerian colors: silvery grays, blues, etc.) my "hidden side" is aquarius, which is cerebral and loves unconventionality and revolution -- this is definitely present in my personal life and politics, and in terms of clothes, i think it shows up in how much ann demeulemeester and martin margiela is in my closet! also, i do think of fashion as a political/intellectual subject a lot (what with globalization and such) and i very much try to shop 'ecoconsciously.' and my venus in leo definitely pops up because i do like a tiny bit of flamboyance, particularly in the shape of a shoe (which is almost always black or brown) and i do love glamorous handbags...and my underwear is very atypically bright, patterned and glamtastic

this is such a fun thread!

I did everything I could in the inputting of info, except my birth time is not completely accurate but it is within an hour. Will this effect alot of the data?

I read my teenager profile which was much more accurate than the adult but I guess that's because I'm still technically a teenager -_-

this is such a fun thread!

yes, this is exactly what i had in mind for yesterday's post. very thoughtful reflection.

Sun sign: Aquarius.
Rising sign: Virgo
Venus: fifth house?

...your nature is rather retiring and reserved. ..thoughts are orderly and organized, and you pursue knowledge with great industry. Though eager to please, you remain somewhat detached. ...
throughout your life you will assume a reserved, quiet, analytical, critical, and receptive attitude.

Although you are not an individual with a very strong ambition :smile:lol:smile:, you possess the ability to persevere and exert ingenuity.
...
You have a desire for purity and though you don't mind relating to others there is something that you do dislike: continuous intrusion of your privacy.
...

Whereas Venus grants the basic capability to reach full enjoyment from love and emotional involvements, it also indicates a tendency to be somewhat inconsistent, volatile, and changeable in romance. Although you are capable of loving intensely and with devotion, the tendencies are to lose interest after a certain time.

I guess this is very obvious in the way I dress.. I like experimenting constantly and have a hard time repeating looks, though repeating clothes and things in general is just my thing, I can wear the same blouse and listen to the same song and think about the same person nonstop for 10 days in a row, and I'll probably be annoyed and even disgusted by all of the above right after that time. though I'll get back sooner or later. :ninja:
also probably true on the critical attitude.. I do have a profound need to dig and dig until I find new things I can incorporate in my wardrobe, I love them more if I haven't seen anyone trying them before. *snob?*
and yup, both private and reserved in the fact that I don't want anything that's entirely mind-revealing.. I don't like pretending but I'm fully satisfied if I love what I'm wearing but still keep more than just a bit of mystery. -_-

Sun sign: Aries.
Rising sign: Virgo.
Moon sign: Saggiatarus.
Venus in: Pisces.

Some keywords: Passionate, direct, honest, pure, romantic :smile:lol:smile:, modest, new ideas, change.

It's quite right. I'm attracted to new things but are easily distacted. If I see something I eiter love it or hate it almost immediately. I always feel like I want to change things, shake things up. Always have a ver strong opinion and not afraid to show it . I like pure things: simple fabrics, natural colours ect.

YBF, within an hour isn't too bad. Basically what you do is check your ascendant (Taurus) and see if that resonates. If not, look at the sign on either side (Aries, Gemini) and see if one of them is much better. If so, adjust your birth time accordingly.

One thing I notice here is you have in this particular grouping one cardinal sign and three mutable signs. The mutable signs are going to contribute to your appetite for change I think ...

Here's one take from guidingstar.com:

J U P I T E R I N P I S C E S
Jupiter is the expansive, jolly, and humorous planet. It is open to new experience and wants to grow and stretch to a greater sense of self. The self-improvement movement is ruled by Jupiter. So are the jovial business types who finance large ventures and travel around the world. Cowboys, who live in the out of doors and the wide-open spaces, are Jupiterian.
Jupiter rules Pisces, so there is a natural affinity between Jupiter and Pisces. The need of Pisces to be open to everything, to expand their horizons, and to hang out with the rich and famous all come from Jupiter.
However, the Neptune rulership of Pisces sometimes creates difficulties during Jupiter in Pisces periods. With Jupiter ruling economics and Pisces being dissolution, Jupiter in Pisces is associated with economic collapses. Hidden enemies and seamy people expanding their powers happens with Jupiter in Pisces--both Watergate and Irangate happened with Jupiter in Pisces! However, the seamier sides are also opened to view, another reason that the uncovering of the corruption happened with Jupiter in Pisces.
Jupiter is the planet of glorification and Pisces rules art, but especially music. During Jupiter in Pisces musical improvements, new technologies and forms of music, come forth. Because Pisces is very sentimental and watery, Jupiter in Pisces glorifies the sentimental in song. Small animals are Piscean--they are glorified in Pisces.
The homeless, the outcasts, the ghetto dwellers, the poor, the insane, the sick, and the imprisoned come under Pisces. During Jupiter in Pisces laws are made and compassion is extended to the people on the fringes of society so they may better themselves. Also, many of the plays and books had the poor and the outcasts as a theme.
But Pisces is also the sign of mysticism and bohemias (those on the fringe of society for more noble reasons). Bohemians and mystics are more openly admired and have access to money and the upper classes of society during Jupiter in Pisces periods. Since Pisces is the sign of meaning and Jupiter grows, opens, pontificates, and expands, you would expect Jupiter in Pisces to be a time when people search for a deeper meaning to life. The books and plays of these periods reflect that.

So I get sentimental, romantic, bohemian from that ... certainly not marching to the same drummer as the herd, right?

I used to be religious about these stuff back then, now I am half and half on it.

They are a great entertainment at times still.

I never was into astrology. But yes, occasionally I find it interesting to read into it.
