Balenciaga blacklists Vogue Paris?

^agree with you, but i really can't see Carine doing something like this..i mean..we're not talking about zara coping h&m..there's serious and high-level stuff going on here..

^exactly.:ninja:
i mean if Carine has seriously done a thing like that..she really risks to lose her reputation!

What are you guys talking about? Of course she'd do it. The fashion industry plays dirty all the time. People are only shocked now because this time someone found out about it.

Considering the financial situation Balenciaga has been one of the more successful houses in keeping its profits steady. So Im guessing Max Mara and Carine Roitfeld thought that Ghesquire wouldn't mind "sharing" his stuff.

The whole thing about Carine saying "It's unfortunate", "I hope it doesnt last long" innocent rubbish - I don't buy it.

Sometimes I wonder why I even like fashion.

well that explains why they d be banned. and they did well by banning them.
that s such a bad thing to do then u re an editor at a huge magazine

Carine's been caught red handed, and she should be punished. It's corrupt and goes against the natural laws of fashion.
So far we had two contrary explanations, both unproven and from anonymous sources and both putting the blame on Carine. Why you are so eager to trust one over the other (or even either) is beyond my understanding.
Let's wait for some hint of proof before trashing a woman's reputation and work ethic.

The gossip mongering is fun, the vitriol isn't so much.

PS: Copying other designers is probably the first natural laws of fashion.

So MaxMara cannot find a sample/pattern on their own?
This rumor is definately Balenciaga defending themselves through the grapevine and doesn't make sense IMO.

Besides the snitch (if any) must have been a VP insider, which makes me think, still, MAS was involved with this in some way.

"yeah, 'cuz rappers have so much fashion credibility.
And I don't think Balenciaga gets as much coverage as Chanel. I mean, people over TFS and who know about fashion knows about Balenciaga. But, everyone knows Chanel, not only people interested in fashion."

Chanel is old fashioned whereas Balenciaga is modern... and after seeing Nicole Richie and Lindsay Lohan carrying those damn Balenciaga bags all over the pages of US weekly it is extremely elitist to think that most people don't know what Balenciaga is... :innocent:

I also agree that having the Roitfeld/Alt look so dominant as to trickle down to Forever 21 crap is BORING! I think if I were a designer I'd be concerned that not participating in this look or their 'consulting' would result in my being left out of VP.

This all sounds mafia-esque to me...

As to the MaxMara rumor, would Carine risk a lawsuit like that? If she did, not only is that a terrible thing to do, but terribly stupid (although I realize that the US has much more of an 'I'll sue you' culture, this would surely have legal ramifications even in Europe).

So MaxMara cannot find a sample/pattern on their own?

Maybe it's not so much about the pattern, but about the technology. Looking at some Balenciaga pieces makes me incredibly curious just how they managed to put these together...

Maybe I should give Carine a ring, she could get me one, I guess... Oh well, not anymore!

I don't think you can actually get a lawsuit for creating a coat inspired by another designer. It's another thing to literally replicate a coat; which I think is not the point in this whole thing.

Like what irulan said, I think it's more to do with the technology of how Balenciaga makes its clothes.

Many designers would die to see the inner workings of Balenciaga; that's why they're so protective of their samples.

This is the best thread we have had in ages. I hope the plot thickens even more.
Has Nicolas been having an affair with anyone? Does VP have any guys working there?
This is Fashion - Melrose Place style. I hope the VP offices don't get blown up.

How did Balenciaga know their coat was copied? Did a similar Max Mara coat appear on the runway?

^ That's actually an interesting question. If the last rumor is true, then how did Balenciaga "heard" that the sample ended at Max Mara studio?

If this rumour is true, which I highly doubt it is, Carine would lose more than just her reputation, her job would be at stake. I really don't think Carine, a woman who seems to love her job and love fashion more than anything else in the world, would jeopardize her career with something as risky and stupid as smuggling one designer's sample to be copied by another brand. Plus, a woman such as Carine who has devoted her life to style does NOT seem like the type who would take fashion plagiarism light-heartedly. I just don't think Carine is that dumb and cold-hearted.

I do, however, agree that this sounds like something either Balenciaga would fabricate/leak in order to make themselves look better or that a VP insider such as Marie-Amelie would have knowledge of.

The thing is, though, that this story is so very specific, that I believe that at least a portion of it is true. It certainly explains why Carine and company would be banned from Balenciaga. Still, I cannot make myself believe that my beloved Carine is that thick-headed, so I hope the details are jumbled and we are only getting a glimpse into a bigger picture.

And, like many of you are wondering, if this story is indeed true, then who blew the whistle on Carine and how did the people over at Balenciaga find out? *cough* Marie-Amelie Sauve *cough* Unless of course, MAS is the mastermind behind everything and made up this story to wage vengeance and revenge against her former employers? Now this is starting to sound like a movie guys !

All this over a jacket? Do we have pics of the MaxMara and Balenciaga jackets? It must be something very special to cause such a commotion.

They should make a movie about this.

It would be called "The Affair of the Jacket".

This whole thing is just so random. Even if the story is actually true ,It would of had to be done more than once for Balenciaga to take such drastic actions. I doubt Carine would risk her reputation over something like "fashion plagiarism", although no one really knows what goes on behind closed doors.

Some Theories on Why Balenciaga Banned Carine Roitfeld and French Vogue

Last week Carine Roitfeld said she didn't attend the Balenciaga show in Paris because the house had "blacklisted" French Vogue. They don't advertise in the magazine or lend it samples anymore. But WHY? Fashionista heard a rumor that Carine called in a Balenciaga sample, and then loaned it to MaxMara, a brand she consults for. MaxMara then made an eerily similar coat before the Balenciaga sample was returned to them, which upset Balenciaga and resulted in the ban. However, a few commenters say the ban has something to do with French Vogue firing Marie Amelie Sauvé, who is "very close" with designer Nicolas Ghèsquiere. "They hate the French Vogue team," commenter Randy writes. However, this is all highly speculative. For all we know Ghesquiere got upset because Carine tagged and refused to remove unflattering photos of him on Facebook. Some people are fussy about that stuff.
nymag.com - Cathy Horyn's blog.

The last theory is LOL!
