Balenciaga F/W 07.08 Paris

no argument here - each piece looks really well made, and the fact that they are looking a little more 'commercial' or i would say classic is actually a relief after all this 'searching for the new direction' in fashion reflected in most of the other collections this season - they all seem a little lost.

After a good look at the full collection, I actually like most of the mixed print dresses and the gold fringe actually work with the geometrics! The keffiyeh scarves aren't merely a trendy accessory for him - it's a serious political statement in support of the Palestinians I believe. That was how it started, a lot of interesting European intellectuals wore it as a political statement, and then the kids pick up the style but not the substance!

...I've always loved the fact Nicholas is so forward thinking that he's often ahead in terms of directions and influences...however, this season def seems less coherent and fails to take off altogether. There are some gems in itt but compared to the last 3 seasons, a bit of a let down:unsure:

thank you for posting pics from previous collections to remind us of the great collections Balenciaga had in the past...

I'm not sure about this one, I like 20% of it and the rest I hate... sorry

Wow.

It physically hurt me to look through this collection. I literally wanted to cry.

I don't care if this collection is very Balenciaga, or very Ghesquiere, or both. I don't care if it's wearable or more commercial. It's hideous.

The only things I can even remotely bring myself to kinda like are the metallic dresses at the end and the shoes.

I was slightly disappointed with his spring collection, and I'm completely disappointed with this one.

I can't believe that people say they love this collection, but they hate Prada. Someone please explain it to me.

Okay after seeing the shoes....I am now mortified. Last time I checked, socks and sandals were distinctly horrid and a faux paus to the fullest extent! Now, Balenciaga does them and all the mindless fashionista's will start wearing them.

I don't care if this is Balenciaga, if 50 little old ladies spent 6 months creating the shoes or if the jackets cost $150,000 - the bottom line is, its ugly. The styling is absolutely ludicrous and I cannot believe this is what people would aspire to look like.

It's all very ironic (and sad) - women will actually pay money to wear lego shoes with grey wollen socks and jodpurs which are possibly the most unflattering peice of clothing in the world!

have you ever thought that the old Balenciaga probably can't survive today? It's a couture house, not RTW. Don't expect a RTW to replicate the success or influence of a couture house. The society has completely changed. Balenciaga himself went bankruptcy twice and eventually the house was closed.

the old Balenciaga is not going to work today, and by doing RTW he is never going to make the so called true "Balenciaga". For a brand that was not much alive from the 70s to the 90s, is it really such a big deal to do the old Balenciaga? The customer base has changed, so should the brand.

If the old houses cannot work with the same ideas/aesthetics they used to, what's the point in keeping them alive in the 21th century? I don't get why all old fashion houses who's designers/founders are either dead or retired are kept alive... I think it is vulgar. Why can't we form new houses? Why recycle and hence destroy the old houses?

i dont know why but i love this...
just absolutely adore it...
have i gone mad...?!?...

I was disappointed at first with this collection...but I really like it now...I think if you wore the peices seperately it would look great...

Hmm...looking at it all, I'm actually liking a lot of it....the latter section of dresses. I still think the folksy/ghetto vibe doesn't really work on a lot of the ensemble but that could be the styling...

Once in a while, you realise even your fashion heros decide to go bad.

I'm going to go out on a loop here and say that I quite like it.
I opened the thread and got a bit of a shock, it definately wasn't what I was expecting. But when you start to look at some of the pieces on their own merit, some of them, especially a few of the blazers and dresses are really nice and not unwearable at all.

I just see this and I think of other designers as mentioned: Ralph Lauren, Chanel, Missoni etc. Some of it is just ugly though (e.g. dresses)

Because we like them (we all have our sentiments), and they keep traditions going. Because it's the money:-)

I think there are places for everyone. And I think it is nice and couraging that the old house is trying new things.

i'm with whitelinen on this.. old Houses should close as soon as their designers are not directing the collections, i always believed Christobal Balenciaga would be mortified if he could see how his House turned up in our days..

anyway, i seriously prefer the latest B. collection to the fw06.07 one
