Brad Pitt is Chanel No. 5's new face

Admit it: We’ve all wondered at some point what Brad Pitt smells like. A rugged, masculine melange of sandalwood, cinnamon, and freshly trimmed beard? An intoxicating cocktail of True Romance and 12 Monkeys? A faint whisper of whatever Angelina Jolie happens to be wearing? A weird old man baby?

Thankfully, this burning question has just been answered. E! revealed today that the Oscar nominee has signed on as the new face of Chanel No. 5 — a classic scent beloved by the world’s glitterati since the 1920s. (Marilyn Monroe allegedly claimed once that she wore only a few drops of Chanel No. 5 to bed.) Though reps for Pitt and Chanel aren’t commenting yet, E! says the star will film an ad for the fragrance in London this week and net a seven-figure paycheck for his trouble. That’ll buy a man a lot of perfume.

Is exactly what went through my head as well! I could imagine picking Pitt to give Bleu de Chanel a sales boost (because he'd fit that over-hyped juice perfectly ), but him for No.5? I'm used to famous and at least half-way elegant women starring in No.5 ads, Audrey Tautou, Nicole Kidman and then some reasonably well known male model added as decoration.
Oh well, wanna see how it turns out, might turn out to be interesting. Failing to see any other reason behind this at the moment, I'm thinking Chanel picked Pitt because he's A list famous.
Or is Chanel trying to get men to wear No.5?
And if they wanted a famous man, why not get George Clooney (no Chanel No.5, no date)? At least in my mind would fit Chanel a bit better.

I suppose it's all going to be in the approach to it isn't it. Nicole Kidman's commercial was actually heavily pinned to the guy if you remember, he narrated it, and it was about how he remembered meeting her, and more importantly, her smell.

I personally would imagine it's going to play along those lines rather than them trying to say men can wear it.

I like Brad a lot but I'm not sure about this. It will be interesting to say the least and the advert is bound to be interesting but I don't know why a man is the face of a female perfume.

I really like him and I'm relatively pleased by the news but what an unexpected choice! Picking a man to promote a womens perfume is one thing ("wear it and you'll attract that kind of guy" etc) but doing this for such an iconic perfume is another!

Well... that's one way to get people to buy the perfume.... I wonder if it'll increase the number of men wearing Chanel no 5? Or women buying it so their man can smell like Brad? To me no 5 has always been a heavy/musky scent so I guess I could see how a guy might wear it. But who knows, maybe they are creating a men's cologne of this scent and they haven't announced it yet. Anyways, I'm curious to see how this turns out.

I'm thrilled they decided to go for Brad. He's the perfect ambassador for Chanel IMO. It's an unexpected choice, for sure, but it will make this iconic perfume even more special.

Chanel could have someone unknown fronting the No.5 campaign. It's the well-documented history behind the fragrance that sells. Although I grumbled about Brad at first, I do anticipate a male face for a women's fragrance.
