Breaking Dawn *Spoilers*

they look up to her because they can relate to her. personally, i don't find the book sexist or bad for young teens to read. i've seen and read far worse than this (gossip girl??) and besides how many stories are their out there about a girl who is a damsel in ditress and has a happy ending?

:flower: I agree.

Wow, I got all excited to enter this thread now that I'm done and phew.... it made my head hurt.

Plus, to those who think that Breaking Dawn is simply fluff, motherhood is quite a potent theme, I think. It's something that Stefanie probably feels strongly about, seeing as she is a mother herself, and after all, all writers are advised to keep to what they know about. Maybe to someone who has no knowledge or experience with that cannot possibly comprehend it, but I see it as a clear theme and bit of "realism" if ever there was any.

^I've seen motherhood in literature done well. Moving, touching, inspiring, beautiful.

I thought BD was a little...bizarre...Too many sci-fi elements thrown in.

I finished half the book and just wikipedia-ed the rest.

^ Motherhood is one thing, when it's unrealistic and out-of-the-blue, that is another.

Okay, whatever, the book was crap. Happy now?

It sucks for you, it was great and enjoyable for me. Who is the happier camper? Let it rest. We all know you hated it. Go pick another book and let it go so that the people who actually liked it and go freely into this thread and post without getting attacked by five hundred cynical members.

I finished the book this morning and I absolutely loved it. The pregnancy thing was quite a shocker for me and the whole story developing from this was kind of unexpected (that's definitely positive, though). I have to say I was quite happy for them when they finally did it. :p The ending was great but a bit too perfect - the drama loving part of me would have preferred something a bit more exciting, like somebody besides Irina but not from the Cullen clan dying for example (yes, I am like that). I'm pretty sure I don't want another book after this.

I'm kind of surprised at all the negativity that's surrounding this book right now. Sure, it could have been better, but I don't think that it was that terrible and I was satisfied. What I really have trouble understanding is how the Twilight saga is being perceived as sexist. Just because Bella is attached to Jacob and Edward? I don't get it. And I don't think that Stephenie Meyer is a bad writer at all. Her writing is clear and easy to understand, but there are subtle intricacies throughout the novels. She's no literary genius, but she's the first to admit that, and I appreciate her style.

As for Breaking Dawn, I really enjoyed it. Obviously there were parts that were a bit crazy and weird, but by the end of the book everything made sense and just felt right. A lot of people seem to be so upset that Bella got her happy ending...would they have been happier if it was totally depressing and everyone died?

And for the baby situation, which I initially resented until I too fell for Nessie's charm, how is that cruel to Rosalie? I also don't understand that.

And lastly, the Nessie/Jacob situation...I don't think that it's creepy or disturbing at all. In fact, I think that it's really sweet and I wouldn't want it any other way. Bella never loved Jacob in that way. She loved him as family and now (or in the future, at least) that'll be the case. Now that Jacob imprinted on Nessie he'll never think of Bella romantically ever again.

I think people who didn't like this book should also be able to discuss it.

I think that the way it was discussed was offensive. The threads were flooded with novels written about how sucky it is and how Stefanie is an embarassment, etc. etc. and when someone would say something positive the same people would come to their own defense and argue to behold their point of view.

That is the problem. That's actually always the problem. If the posts are respectful, there's no problem regarding their contents, but when they are posted in offensive ways, the differing point of view has the freedom to post in the same manner, which is what begins the arguments. Forums aren't a one way street and when the balance is broken people get pissed off.

Be respectful and everybody is happy.

^If you think the fanatic negative posts are irritating, fanatic positive posts are just as irritating - "OmG! U r not a real FAN if u diss Breaking Dawn!!! Edward is SO HAWT!!! Meyer ROCKS 4eva!!!!!!"

I've seen negative posts written well, and positive posts written well. I've seen people from both sides debate the merits of the book intelligently. But since a large chunk of the books fans are young tween girls, more often than not unintellectual fights break out.

What is really PISSING me off is that it seems nay-sayers of Breaking Dawn are not allowed to voice their opinions. Twilightmoms and twilightlexicon have banned any negative reviews on the books, and Meyer is monitoring her myspace so that only positive reviews are allowed to be posted. Amazon.com is not publishing any low-star reviews. The book's publishing company is refusing to comment on negative response, saying that they've only received positive response.

Twilightmoms have gone as far as to lock their site so no one can say anything bad about the book. WTF?!

What has Meyer become? The saint of all writers? Readers aren't even allowed to voice their disagreement with her book? If any other more respected writer, or a Nobel-award winning author were to write bad book, readers and critics would rip it apart and their criticisms would be acknowledged instead of banned.

The whole handling of this affair by the publishers, forums, author, etc. has really lowered my opinion of them.

From the Twilight Mom

"We have decided to lock the forum down tonight and possibly each night this week. We have a lot of newborns and a lot of people posting right now. Our moderators are all married or moms or have jobs and lives and many of them (myself included) have been on the site all day. We need a break so we are going to take one. We'll lock down sometime after 9 pm Eastern tonight and we will open sometime after 9 am Eastern tomorrow. We'll keep this policy in place until things settle down. I for one don't want to wake up to a bunch of negative posts that need to be edited or deleted."

*NO CHARACTER OR CELEBRITY BASHING & NO ROLE PLAYING. If you don't like or hate any of the characters (or actors portraying the characters) in any of the books written by Stephenie Meyer, this site is not for you. Our discussions about the author Stephenie Meyer and her characters and stories are based solely on our love and enthusiasm for them. This site is just for FANS and there is a difference between discussing character flaws and bashing characters. If you do not know the difference, it is suggested that you do not make any negative comments regarding characters and/or hotties, as we are a very protective coven/pack when it comes to these people, be they fictional, real, or just a darn good piece of eye candy with no talent whatsoever.

Regarding Amazon monitoring reviews: http://www.amazon.com/Amazon-taking...m_cd_ef_tft_tp?_encoding=UTF8&asin=031606792X

Amazon.com's BD forum has most of the debate over this censoring-issue. I don't want to post it all here.

i think this is getting out of hand. its just a book, we all have our opinions. I have read some extremely harsh reviews on amazon so maybe thats what they were reffering to as "negative posts that need to be edited or deleted." those kind of sites, like twilight mom, probably don't allow swearing and i have defiantly read reviews that had some pretty harsh language.
I am a big fan of the book and I know that stephenie meyer isn't the greatest writer and I know that this isn't the best series out there but I stand by the more positive side of this argument though I do see some points being made on the negative. thats just me and my opinion on all of this...

Well luckily in this thread everyone is entitled to an opinion ;)

I think that there have been a lot of negative reactions to this book (including my own), but that doesn't mean that positive reactions are not also welcome in this thread! If you enjoyed it, express that you enjoyed it. Don't get brought down by people who had a bad experience with it, because this was not the case for you. :flower:

im still not quite sure what to think of it. its been nearly a week since i read it and i just remember being confused by most of it.

sure i enjoyed some parts but im going to have to read it again to actually see if i like it or not.

my cousin on the other hand just finished and he loves it.. so much so that he thinks its the best of the four (which makes sense, some people enjoy the action and the plot of the story i was more concerned with the development of the characters) from what i can remember the story didn't flow with the previous three and so much was crammed into it but hey i'll give it another chance :p

I tackled the Twilight series recently as a trashy summer read to pass time. I'm surprised at how seriously some people take these books. I tried to find a forum to talk about the stories but was scared off by the overly sensitive bordering on fanatical arguments that were taking place. People need to realize this is fiction and it's not quite that serious.

Breaking Dawn is a hot mess in a lot of ways. It's just all over the place. The plot builds up to things that fizzle like the so-called battle. Plot points are rushed and tied up in ridiculous ways. Interesting characters like Seth and Leah are brought to prominence then forgotten. Once the book left Jacob's point of view it became a chore to read. Everything just worked out soooo perfectly, no conflict, no sacrifice. It just felt anti-climatic.

Personally, i am very mixed about the book.I felt like it became less of a love story.Where was the focus on Bella's and Edward's marriage? The wedding was so rushed.Edward was more of a sidelined character.I just didnt feel the chemistry i had in the past books with B and E.

As for Nessie, i really liked the whole idea of Bella and Edward having a baby. However, the way she was written was not at all appealing. It just seemed off to me.As for the whole birthing chapter, that was wayy too over the top.I mean she went into more detail about that than B and E's relationship post wedding.

I also dont understand why Jacob got his own "book". I have always felt that Meyer favored Jacob over Edward. He is more of a main character than Edward which makes no sense.

Another problem was the numerous plot holes and contradictions.I felt that the writting was sloppy and the end was sooo anti-climatic.She seriously spent 200 pages building up to that?

My main gripe like i said is the lack of B and E romance. I was hoping for more of a focus on their relationship after the wedding and i was really disappointed.I thought the book was okay but it was just an all around messy piece of writting.I actually have read fanfiction that was much better written.

I had a lot more insight but im so jetlagged my mind is no longer working lol.Maybe i will edit this post when i get some sleep:wacko:
