Catwalk Trends S/S 11

^OhSoTychonic, you are fabulous.

I know the color thing has already been mentioned, what with tangerine and cyan and magenta and yellow, but I have really noticed that the colors are NEON. Past just plain old bright. Neon lace is a specific trend. Christopher Kane, Marios Schwab, and Erdem all showed it.

Trends I've seen:

  • Seamless arms or dropped armholes
  • Crop tops (continued from last spring [Wang])
  • Wide-leg trousers to palazzo pants
  • A general 'nineties vibe

The Seamless Shoulder S/S 2011

Now, there are several different ways to do this, but I have particularly noticed only two techniques designers are using, both tend to look rather similar though one isn't actually seamless.

Way number one:

This is a kimono sleeve - there are no seams at the armhole, the body and the arm are one piece.
Think, Cristobal Balenciaga (left) or more recently, Chanel Haute Couture F/W 10.11 (right)

Way number two:

This shoulder is not seamless, but rather dropped to produce a casual, sportswear-like look. Think Alexander Wang.

I think Prada actually used shoulder number two most, but with the sharp, jutting out cuffs typical with an cut-in-one kimono sleeve, it looks like shoulder number one.

Remember I said about the sharp cuffs of a kimono sleeve?
Here are some perfect examples by Marc Jacobs.

Note how clean the shoulder looks, not cluttering up that corner of the garment with a seam and so allowing further embellishment.

Fendi produced unusual seamless shoulders with slashed open sleeves on blouses and ballooned sleeves on jackets.
It must be nice to be a perpetrator, aware that he has started a trend, and then just continuing it with his other houses.

I'm seeing a lot of stripes this season, especially at Versace and Prada.

What's up with almost everyone showing flats or low heels? It's like they all met and decided that "heels are bad, let's give our feet a break!" :ermm:

*ok maybe not everyone, but at least 8 (probably more)- including Chloé, Marni, Giambattista Valli, Balenciaga, Stella McCartney...

I hope so! Planning outfits around a pair of outrageous statement heels is getting a bit boring after, what, five years? Anyway, I'm sure it's only temporary (although I must admit I'm personally quite happy about this direction  )

The punk look appeared at Balenciaga, Chanel and most obviously at Jean Paul Gautier

I love the button up trend! It`s about time people pay attention to being dressed properly again (after all this baggy, slouchy, casual, boyfriend nonsense).

I don't think minimalism should anymore be referred to as a trend. And the designers you listed have been following minimalism or its characteristic throughout some colls recently like Calvin and Stella.

this season's clothes weren't as bodycon as compared to before. maybe it's because of the previous seasons (LV, Prada) where a fuller body was appreciated more. Regardless, the clothes still look really great!
