Chanel F/W 08.09 Paris

I love this! LOVE THIS! :buzz:

i love this so much that i started crying with joy when i was looking at it earlier.

i was so afraid that this would be bad or boring like Fendi and KL. But its amazing! Bravo Karl!

the set is perfect. Its the best set I've seen from Chanel since that tower they did for HC one year.

The clothes are so beautiful. The tights! The shoes!

some of the bags(?) like the one Stange has is kinda weird though. Also I wish Karl would give up on denim. Theres nothing Chanel about denim. Also theres a bit too much gold/yellow eyeshadow on the the girls.

Overall its a fantastic collection.

one of his best RTW collections for a long long time....
though i'm noticing some influences from recent shows ici et là...

the girls look really tired!!!!
the gold make-up and hair make some girls look like a new rich woman without tastes

I really like the aesthetic at Chanel this season

Also, the set? REALLY? Loveeeeeeeee it  I wish I could steal the caroussel and live in it B) Or at least make it the main attraction of my living room

am loving this collection too! i especially love the runway w/the carousel. genius!

the tights & shoes are really gorgeous  i also spot some very nice dresses!

How bland this is....starts very weak and then shows some strenght towards the end,but overall i dont like it(blame it on the tights and awful hair)i do love the presentation, the only fun thing about this collection imo.

Oh and i will give credit for shreded suits, thats brilliant.

The see through plastic, denim, torn stuff is absolutely disgusting. The hair and make up are also vile.

I do really love the set, some of the dresses are divine also. The tights and shoes are beautiful too.

Wow! Best Chanel RTW collections in years! The menswear is amazing, the dresses with the intersecting ribbons, the dual-tone tights, the skirt suits! A lot of it is also really on trend, from the cut of the jackets to the restraint. I'm not feeling the lace, but it doesn't hurt the collection very much.

Thanks for that! ^

A Lot of Chanel and a Little Jolt

In his third big fashion show in eight days, the artistically ambidextrous Karl Lagerfeld delivered just what we expect of Chanel during the fashion house’s show at the Grand Palais this morning — a lot of Chanel and a little jolt.
First, we got the precise little frayed-edge suits — the bread and butter of Chanel’s ready-to-wear empire. They get knocked off relentlessly, but anyone who has tried the real thing knows there are secrets in those suits — like little chains at the hemlines to keep the hang just so.
Then we got a casual youthful surprise — frayed jeans skirts under chunky black sweaters — and some jazz-like big bellbottomed sleeves on a prim checked suit.
We’ve seen elegant tails on jackets at a number of shows in Paris this season, and Lagerfeld made them his own by rounding them in a series of smart and elegant coats in several lengths. Those are the looks that I’ll best remember from Chanel this season.
Skirt lengths were long — as they have been throughout the shows — and the silhouettes were narrow — a model could hardly walk in one ankle-length pencil skirt.
Lagerfeld gave us a bit of vamping toward the end and, oddly, it didn’t work as well. The see-through plastic suits were a bit too Dolce & Gabbana for me, though the pattern translated well when he did it on fabric. The boudoir ruffles and lace were so over-decorated that they seemed silly, and the S&M criss-crossed taping on several sweet dresses seemed surprisingly clumsy and off-mark for Chanel.
Still, the whole thing was an exercise in smart branding. It was hard to miss the accessories: wide belts at the waist of nearly every suit (looks great on skinny models, not so great on the rest of us), chunky-heeled shoes and patterned hosiery. I liked the hose with a white panel in front and black in back.
Lagerfeld’s brilliant management skills — he designs for Fendi and his own Karl Lagerfeld line — come through in his presentations, which are always perfectly planned and executed. This morning, models walked around a circular runway, then stepped onto a carrousel that was created for the show, where some models sat on oversized shoes and bags. At the end of the show, the carrousel began to turn and out came Mr. Lagerfeld, himself in a black double-breasted jacket. He escorted his models out, closing the show. — Christina Binkley

Chanel's carousel

PARIS: Fashion may be an eternal merry-go-gound but Karl Lagerfeld made a big statement with the carousel in the center of his Chanel runway on Friday. Instead of the usual fairground seats of sculpted horses, this whirligig was fitted with super-sized bags, shoes, pearl chains, camellias and even Coco Chanel's signature hat. And at the end of a show, in which the only bag was a tiny egg-sized clutch for evening , the models clung to the giant accessories as the carousel twirled.

Lagerfeld was spelling out his story-line in black and white - not least because it was the color theme of the show that included hose with a lacy front, the back plain black. They seemed designed to make the eye trace a long line, even when skirts were short. Yet the stand-out pieces were calf-scraping hemlines on tweedy skirts paired with big sweaters or a lighter, lacy blouse.

The message about accessories was clear: No more relying on all those house codes, from gilt chains to quilted bags, to pronounce this a Chanel show. There were some new Gallic berets, but embellishment was mostly built in, as in a stylish quilted tunic top or collars that turned inexplicably inside the tweed jackets.

The overall effect was slightly confused. Was Lagerfeld really consigning accessories to the carousel of history, while hinting that they will come around again soon? Or was he just offering something for everyone, from celebrities like the petite Olsen twins, who would drown in the longer lengths, to Rihanna, who might be the only person to choose a mesh mini dress under a long spider's web of a coat?

Whatever. There was a firm new silhouette for loyal suit clients. The jacket was cut sharply with a taut waist over a knee-length skirt. So after several season of youth-at-all costs at Chanel, here was a collection for grown ups, even if they can still enjoy all the fun of the fair.

ahhh! the best chanel collection for a while, this looks really good imo.

im so glad karl pared down the chanel "look"

1000x better than SS 2008 and those silly penguin sweaters for FW2007. Much more "Chanel"

Best Chanel collection in a while. I started losing faith after HC SS06 and gave up by last season, which was horrid, imo :ninja: But this looks very good, and the set is just beautiful!
