Christian Dior Haute Couture S/S 09 Paris

It's beautiful, the details are stunning and it's certainly a bit more interesting than Dior has been, but let's face it, these are the same shapes we've been seeing, just done in different colors with different embroideries and a different reference as the starting point.

Even the reference point, Dutch Masters and Baroque painting is something he's touched on a few times in the last 4 years. But the thing with these recent Dior collections that's so disappointing is that Galliano just isn't doing anything interesting with his references anymore. He doesn't blend a bunch of disparate elements together to get an amazingly creative end result, and that really was what made John so incredible.

Oy it is the sad truth. I wish I could argue it but it is certainly right. :( I want more playfulness again.

Yeah, Jacobs did it (Fall 2007), but i don't want to compare haute couture with ready-to-wear.

You're right, it's tough to compare these two, but I think it shows that you can give this inspiration a more modern edge without losing the reference.

 After seeing the whole collection. I am really impressed with it all. Ironic how Natasha's look is my favourite from the whole collection
Bring on the detail shots

i'm so disappointed with this collection, i don't even know what to say. i coudln't care less about colors, fabrics and embelishment if there was one thing - modernity. i bet it was not. what Galliano showed was the same old dusty story of reworking archives for the sake of reworking archives. i know there's a pressure for publicity (hello, kanye, hello, dita, hello, front row!) but isn't it time to stop making a circus of the runway? even more so as it simply wasn't that impressive.
sorry to say that, but there was nothing new to this collection. and hemlines felt sick. if this is what they call 'turning a dress inside out' i'd rather stick to 'keeping a dress as it is'.

Comparing this collection to last season's one, I really love it! Of course it's not good, old Galliano, but some of the pieces are really amazing

I actually like it quite a lot...its not Johns best collection but I dunno....somehow he can never really disappoint me.

Im so in love with dresses they really steal the show and the shoes:blush: some pieces are just horrendous but most I really like

Seeing this collection as a whole I think it's really good, but there's still something missing. I don't know if it's because of the fact that when Galliano comes to my mind I start to think about strentgh, sexiness, and British, punk influence.

And I have to agree that the past season was so much better. As I said before some looks are very Giambattista Valli.

The Renaissance inspiration is really good. However he could work more on it. Over all it's a great collection.

When I have time I'll post some HQ's from Vogue UK (if they post them).

Once again, I hate the color palette. John...FOCUS. I mean, baby blue, salmon, blood red, goldenrod, Delft blue...it's all too much.

Also...I want the Bar Suit burned. I used to love it, but now that John has beaten it to death, I just can't handle another Dior collection made up entirely of 'interpretations' of the New Look. John...instead of shoving the New Look down our throats every season, how about you give us an actual NEW LOOK.

Oh and don't get me started on the shoes. It's becoming so formulaic...do something outrageous on the heel and add lots of straps. None of the shoes have anything to do with the collection...they're just there for shock value...except they're not shocking anymore.

I agree. and even though this is beautiful, I agree about the new look part as well.

i've been looking forward to this forever, and after last season's hc my hopes were high... but im really disappointed. everything's beautifully crafted but so repetitve and seen before, and the shiny fabrics (i dont know the exact name in english) are just... too much. enough of it, really, and the volumes... yeah, amazing, but we've seen them before. the detailing is wonderful but doesnt take my breath away like his old collections did.
what i really like are the floor lenght white gowns towards the middle and this dress http://i41.tinypic.com/1g3fxs.jpg

(the less 'voluminous' ones)

God you are on the same wave length as me. Ironic that a house famed for the 'New Look' is perhaps now as repetitive as they get. Again the shoes nothing exciting here, particular when one thinks back to the kinky S&M heel of autumn/winter 2003 (Nothing I repeat nothing has ever got me so excited).
The silhouettes are totally boring, As much as I appreciate the work that goes into these dresses what good is that if the end result is a total mess. I just hate that I've got to this point, but John has produced nothing for the last 3 or 4 seasons worth the time of day of anyone who has a serious interest in fashion. It really is the end of an era. I expect no more from Mr Galliano.

really refreshing!!

but I still missing the old extreme Galliano's creativity...

xx

im sick of the shiny and matte fabrics he keeps on using.

less constructive clothing would have been better. less is more. thats how he became famous anyways, right?

i believe couture is suppose to be the ultimate reflection of a designer's vision, but i dont believe his past few collections have been that.... its all a bit too contrived.

I like this  i really love the mix of texture and form and colour!
Galliano is still supreme for me

To me this is still kitsch. Maybe the hair/make-up was toned down; but it doesn't detract from general kitsch of the collection.

Some of those pieces are just way too over-the-top, but not in an interesting/good way. I predict they'll water some of the gowns down for someone to wear to the Oscars and voila! Another easily forgettable Dior HC collection! :innocent:

Either way - this was underwhelming. I haven't truly been wowed by a Dior Couture since Spring 2007!! After that collection, it all went downhill....
