Conventional Beauty vs Unconvential Beauty

I consider classic beauty to be like, old movie stars (Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, Elizabeth Taylor, etc) and the old supermodels, like Cindy Crawford and Christy Turlington. Modern beauty I would think to be someone like Kate Moss.

But then again, Audrey Hepburn has similar features to a lot of the "modern" models. Large eyes, a thin, rather than curvy frame... And her nose wouldn't have gotten her far in the world of 90's modeling.

Thus, I voted for the modern.
One last thing- such a lovely description of Gemma Ward funnyfan!

It really depends on my mood. I love to look at an interesting photograph, and most of the time, a modern face lends to that. But I love someone with looks like Gwyneth and Grace Kelly. There is something appealing about perfectly strong and symmetrical bone structure.

Case in point, right now I love Daria and Tiiu. Daria is definately more unusual looking and Tiiu has a classically beautiful face.

purple, i agree, i dont think audrey is completely classical. i mean she is a classic in the sense everyone thinks she looks good, but she has that gamine look which is quite modern. small sharp features. she could definitely be right for now.

Yovanna House has a stunning face, she's a very classic beauty...however that applies only to her face. I don't think she's a good model though.

why is there a discussion on this? modern is relative and so is classic....classic to whom? modern to whom? omahyra may be a modern beauty to americans, but she may be considered classically beautiful elsewhere, for instance...this is a dumb thread, no offense

.I prefer modern..............I don't think it's stupid to discuss this because there are distinctions between the two....models are selected based on certain ideas that go along with their looks- there is a pattern and it's worth noting and discussing. Modeling agencies are aware of these distinctions

First of all,I think if a model is really a good model, then she should be able to pull off both looks when needed. The only thing I can say about classic beauty is that before Twiggy, it seems like the women were more well endowed. But you also have to remember that classic was modern at one point.

Actually, the 1920's emphasised a very boyish, thin form as well. :flower:

That's true. And I love art nouveau myself, and I totally forgot about that period in time.

Which do you prefer? I prefer unconventional ones, although I do like classic beauties. I think if models looked like everyday people, they wouldnt be as intriguing.

Both.^_^ But they have to have some interesting qualites. Sometimes too perfect is too boring.

I like both. I like seeing someone with an unusual beauty, but I also at times like classic looks too.

Conventionality is also in the eye of the beholder though.... a person could be unconventional to some and conventional to others. I don't really prefer one to the other as in the end...it's all beautiful.

i definately like both but these days unconventional beauty is becoming very conventional because a lot of what most people would consider unconventional looking models have similar looks. Like for example heather marks and jessica stam or gemma ward and sasha p. Theres so many models that look like aliens now days it's becoming rare to see classic beauties (with exceptions of course. I think sooner or later classic beauty will return but for now they just keep getting stranger and stranger looking (imo).
