Deconstruction by Alexander McQueen

^ that's a great analysis la bordelique. either way, i think it's about sexuality and mcqueen utilizes it superbly. i also think it can be safe to assume that it's a highly personal issue.
yes, i agree- i think all art is highly personal...
a true artist has to be really brave to expose themselves publicly...
it's tough...

maybe this should be moved to the art and design forum...

I'd also like to hear why people are wowing, because, frankly to say "i love it" and leave it at that is at least boring. Let's hear some discussion, because it warrants some.

Hum ... I didnt made any imput cuz
A -) The bride to groom deconstruction is old! As I said on a previous post I saw it ages ago on Showstudio.com!
B -) Im totally biased about Lee and his work ... I think if Id bump into him I´l instantly would get a restraining order or something ...

Now about the work ... when I saw the "deconstruction" I thought of a song ... a song by Bjork called "Isobel" .. there's this line where she sings:

my name isobel

married to myself

my love isobel

living by herself

Bjork has made this really long explanation about the song ... I know its unrelated but its what I thought immediately when I saw the video ... the lyrics ... then when I thought about the performance ... its about solitude ... maybe its about exposing yourself ... how you may look all sleek and normal and after the transformation you can see how you really are or how are you feeling inside, which is radically different from what we see ... of course McQueen ads on top of that ... with grand finale (the fans and the glitter) maybe the point was to objectify or beautify a feeling in particular ... but what is it? (me being a hopeless romantic, can think only of misery -or solitude-)

Alexander McQueen is a genius.

I LOVED the Weird Science one, esp. I can only imagine how entertained one would be to sit through one of his shows. Breaking away from (What I think to be) the dullness of a regular fashion show to.... well, you never know what to expect at a McQueen show.

Pure genius, IMO.

I think the bridegroome piece is uninspired and ugly. I don't see how great it is. Perhaps he started with a great concept, if faust's assumption was correct, but the execution was not to my taste. It seemed gimmicky and pretencious to me and it lacked the visual impact that would've moved me. The "piece" just looked bland and underwhelming...I'd expect something extreme and dramatic but it is a big dissapointment

The weird science clip, however, was better. I loved the robotic ink shooting apparatus and Shalom's performence. Those pieces are more visually pleasing to me. It's just a matter of personal taste and value I guess.

^^i think it looks like he had fun doing it though...:p

and i agree..
for me- the piece with shalom was killer...
SHALOM was killer...

:D

* i could finally see her acting...i guess that is what she really wants to do...
she actually looks like she could have some talent in that piece...
she was quite convincing...imo..

i was thinking along the lines too
maybe what he did has no message at all

maybe the story is about a man missing his dead fiance to the extreme where he cuts up his own clothes and merge his fiance's cloak into a wedding dress and walk down the aisle for her as well as for him self

the bricks as shoes are obvious

hmmmm, its an interesting idea, but i dont know if i agree with it. if this were the case, why would he bind the hands of the model and place the tie in the mouth as a gag? To me, its almost entirely pointing to the repression of woman in our society. ''

I also think its interesting that the model's face what painted white the entire time. He added tears (was that was it was, its hard to tell?) to the model, but still, the face remained "painted" the entire time. i have no theories about this, but it is something i noticed.

all in all, i think it was amazing. ive always liked mcqueen, but i seem to have a new appreciation of him as a trueartist after seeing these videos and seeing the skin + bones exhibit

This was my favorite video... simply because of the show- the model was excellent ;) (but of course i can appreciate it just as much as the others because of the message, which was kind of obvious here)
