The most depressing thing is that she really shot herself in the foot with that decision, especially when you see the legacies Dries and Ann built. Considering that Margiela didn't downright sink following her disappearance, she probably wasn't his only influence. Rei and Yohji share a lot of aesthetical and philosophical markers with him and Vionnet make more than a few appearances during his 20 years. The issue really boils down to the fact that Yee's aesthetic was so personal to her, so even mere inspiration can feel like identity theft. I feel for her.

^ that's just a snippet, though. Who knows what went down in their relationship. There's nothing else to conclude this was all in her head, self-sabotage or her subjective perception as you suggest. Identity theft is very common, especially with male-female dynamics in creative fields and they're talking about the time around his debut. That Margiela didn't sink means nothing, a good investor and PR, people genuinely believing your work is one-of-a-kind and borrowing from new characters every season to maintain momentum has been the recipe to reach stardom in fashion for years, especially with its tendency to overlook context and revise history.

We don't even know if fashion was her long-term passion or if she enjoyed being in the industry, she was pretty reclusive and became a teacher just like Walter. Dries and Ann were closer but they also created more commercial clothes, I wouldn't depict their success as a symbol of failure for the other 4.

I know it is common industry practice but Findikoglu's brand is literally built by interns according to this article. It is hard to imagine a billions dollar industry would thrive in the exploitation of even interns which is probably the cheapest labor practice in modern history.

This article was a topic of conversation at work today and my manager thinks it's all fake news bc the clothes are good and the younger generation are weak because they think doing chores is abuse; except I saw my manager scream at my coworker to the point of making her cry horribly in front of the whole office (for a problem completely beyond her control) just a few months ago 💀

Yes long hours are extremely normal in fashion but locking interns/seamstresses in the studio without food or bathroom access is how the triangle shirtwaist factory fire happens. Can we stop with the idea of the tortured artist yet??

I know it is common industry practice but Findikoglu's brand is literally built by interns according to this article. It is hard to imagine a billions dollar industry would thrive in the exploitation of even interns which is probably the cheapest labor practice in modern history.

From memory, the interns have been the crux of her brand since the start. Low to no pay, whilst the brand itself is haemorrhaging money based on their public financial reports.

And the clothes suffice but they’re not great. Just reductive. It’s “branded” well because it’s easy to understand. She’s not that complex of a designer, hence the abuse of interns to pick up her own slack. It’s hard to say she’s using the tortured artist approach because nothing about her is really that “tortured” or deep.

I just googled it and I listened to a clip from the trueanon podcast where they talk about it was a client's assistant's dog that he kicked to death in a fitting in Ireland. I know those crazy egotistical "important" people get away with a lot but that is next level psychotic to just brush under the rug with NDA's... I don't see how people could stand for that?? I really really hope it isn't true and it's just some troll making up stories that took off.
