The most depressing thing is that she really shot herself in the foot with that decision, especially when you see the legacies Dries and Ann built. Considering that Margiela didn't downright sink following her disappearance, she probably wasn't his only influence. Rei and Yohji share a lot of aesthetical and philosophical markers with him and Vionnet make more than a few appearances during his 20 years. The issue really boils down to the fact that Yee's aesthetic was so personal to her, so even mere inspiration can feel like identity theft. I feel for her.^ so sad and gross and yet so common throughout history.. Scott Fitzgerald and Zelda, Picasso and Gilot. I wonder what else was in the equation to make her quit the entire field.. or maybe it was her way to exhibit his lack of originality by removing the source.... never too effective! some people can do A LOT with the little they steal.
From memory, the interns have been the crux of her brand since the start. Low to no pay, whilst the brand itself is haemorrhaging money based on their public financial reports.I know it is common industry practice but Findikoglu's brand is literally built by interns according to this article. It is hard to imagine a billions dollar industry would thrive in the exploitation of even interns which is probably the cheapest labor practice in modern history.
