Dior Homme by Hedi Slimane (2000-2007)

well..i'm pretty sure that hedi got the idea for said collections by hanging out on the streets of nyc and with various musicians who sported all thrift store clothing...
so it's actually more authentic...
he talks about his love affair with nyc all the time... :D

yeah I always got the impression Dior Homme is like an upscale, luxurious version of the thrift store rock n roll look I see at concerts and places where musicians hang out...like the idea is the same in that it's sort of a grunge aesthetic but the thing that separated Hedi from the pack was that his clothes had subtle detail and quality fabrics and cut that you couldn't find otherwise in thrift store clothing. Which is why I'm somewhat disappointed in S/S 05 when I saw some of the pieces in stores...I mean the look is still very sharp but that Slimane 'edge' seems to be missing. Hopefully the items that come to stores in the upcoming month will have more variety.

What have you seen so far from S/S 2005?

when I went to Jeffreys in NY i didn't see that much...just the striped t-shirts, the peacock t-shirt (both of which disappointed me because the cotton is really thin), the gold bomber jacket, the sparkling shirt, a v-neck sweater with some velcro detail on the shoulders (I liked the distressed sweaters from VotC better), it was nice but wasn't groundbreaking. The sparkling shirt was probably the only thing I'd buy if I had to choose.

I'm afraid I will get disappointed as well. But I will though buy some jeans. They look nice and seem more slim than the jeans in VotC.

Im fairly sure the cut of the jeans has not changed from votc.
The classic blue jeans would be a good investment though.

Denim is the one consistently good thing about DH that they do not normally cut corners on.

I got the same feeling as FTB about the shirts of s/s 05 and some of the jackets as well - from the advance collection they had in tokyo.

There were some interesting blazers and what not - but most of them seemed quite overpriced.

Its a shame that in reality the articles will not be as distressed as on the runway.

yeah this disappointed me too. Judging from the runway I thought they were gonna continue running with the distressed theme they started in VotC.

Also with the blazers you mentioned, remember that military blazer they posted in Dior Homme msn group and how faust mentioned Number (N)ine has a similar jacket? It seems Hedi is influenced quite a bit by Number (N)ine. I think Wyman (Columnist for MILK magazine in Hong Kong) brought this up before...the past few seasons have elements borrowed from N(N), although Hedi probably won't admit it. Oh well, I still prefer Dior Homme to N(N).

N(N) is a bit too punk rock for me..
At times they have very cool items though.
I would like to see how thier designs develop in the future.

It does seem like Hedi borrowed from them as well as (obviously) Raf.

Some similar leathers and blazers, the slim jeans, etc.

Well if you think about it Dior is quite punk rock too. Last night I was at an indie rock concert and one of the bands was playing kinda punk-ish music...i looked at the band members and two of them were wearing Dior Homme style striped t-shirts and one of them had slim black pants (although they weren't Dior Homme, the look had a very DH feel to it).

It's funny though, even if Hedi borrowed from other designs, i guess it's just because the whole Dior Homme machine is so ubiquitous, whenever I see someone looking like a rocker/hipster I don't even think "thrift store" any more, the first thing that comes to my mind is "that guy looks very Dior"

sometimes rakuten stores will ship overseas by special arrangement, if not -
www.akibado.com may get it for you if your willing to go to all that trouble.

i find that really humourous... :p :D
not sure why...but it's just so backwards...

No, its a japanese 'online mall' called rakuten consisting of many shops.
It has a lot that sell DH, but not all of the sites on the web.

If you show me what you are looking at I might be able to help.

And I do agree that its quite backwards, seeing as the look was present before hedi.

I think that hedi's style hasn't really changed.
The rock influence is always present, and its just going through phases.
We had a lot of punk influence with Luster, 80s influence with Votc and we can see that S/S 05 is highly influenced by grunge.

Same here. It's definitely backwards.:innocent:

Nah, I think that way, too. But if I REALLY think about it, I realize I've got it backwards.

EMERGENCY!!!!! What waist size does a Dior Homme 34 translate to?

They're usually a size larger than listed since they're supposed to be worn low, but take into account that it will be tighter in the legs. I have a 30, but the waist measures 32, except its a tad too tight for my in the upper thighs. Hopefully my cardio routine will fix that soon since I got a good deal (250.00)

Oh, sorry. I mean in European sizing. Not jeans sizing (actual waist measurement).
