Dior : The Madhouse

When a man looks at a woman wearing one of my dresses, I would like him basically to be saying to himself: "I have to f*ck her."' He shrugged his shoulders. 'I just think every woman deserves to be desired. Is that really asking too much?'...

i got as far as this...and then lost all respect and interest...imo...every woman deserves to be respected...not f*cked...and if he was a straight man...maybe he would know that most men think that way about most women already without much help... :ninja:

takiing us back several decades here...
I'm with you softgrey. :flower: I also HATE the quote "A dress makes no sense unless it inspires a man to take it off." If any woman had respect for herself she would dress for HERSELF, not for MEN. [/b][/quote]
you both said it so well :flower:

being / looking sexy has not much to do with the way one dresses..
its much more intimate and complicated than just that :P
on the contrary, women (and men) that trying too hard to look sexy
are usually quite "inadequate" on this field, so they desperately need
to make an efford (which by its self is a bit ridiculous and sad )

I never really thought that Galliano's flaw was creating highly-sexed pieces...his whole 'Women should be f*cked' things smacks of rhetorical, word-gush quotability instead of his genuine beliefs... I mean Dior is hardly hi-octane sex, sex, sex compared to, say, Gucci, is it?

Just let's say that it TRIES to be !!!

It used to be ' sophisticated lady ' under Gianfranco Ferre , but now strives to be LVMH ' s version of the new GUCCI , VERSACE , and ROBERTO CAVALLI .

' Sophisticated Lady ' has now gone to CELINE , as LOUIS VUITTON ready to wear is just a joke as far as availability and sales are concerned .

LVMH is making a mistake , in the long run , as despite the supposed astronomical sales , the clients will grow tired of this " hyperbole of supposed ' high octane sexual style ' . "

KIT :innocent:

So, I guess Dior remain the madhouse until either Arnault or Galliano pops their clogs then. Or will sophisticated lady come back when sales begin to fall? Is the Dior label being permanently 'damaged'...in fact, does the Dior label even have any relevance anymore. Is there a designer out there who could make Dior relevant to the modern world but also true to Christian Dior?

i so agree kit, Dior ended up as the three labels in one

replying to his highness:

there must be someone out there able to restore some class to the Christian Dior label, someone like Ralf Rucci... or Andrew Gn or even Martin Grant.

too much damage done by Galliano lately :ninja:

and yes, sophistication will be back for Dior, its the new mega trend so i bet Dior will need to conform :P

it will take a LOT to re gain the type of client who mr.dior appealed to
the majority of women who buy into the galliano for dior image are non-sophistocated at all

especially mrs. i wear j'adore dior tee with my white dior stiletto's and my limited edition CD saddle bag

God - that makes me sooooooooo angry!!!  JG is such an idiot saying things like that. I have heaps to say on this topic - actually it forces me to start another topic on this subject. Not enough time at the moment but will do it tomorrow. By the way, the reason why I don't have time is that I have to go to a business dinner tonight with a bunch of guys who will no doubt drool all over me (despite the fact that I'll deiberately wear old fashioned/frumpy clothes) just because i am the only female present (and I am not being bigheaded or full of myself). THAT is how hard it is for a woman to be taken seriously already!!!! more anon.

I'm probably one of very few that actually wish they'd produce more of what he shows on the runway to sell in the stores (well except for this falls' collection)
I agree and always have felt that way. Even with the Fall crazy-Asian stuff. Why not? ;)

Aww...we all love Ale... ;) You could start your own poll (just missing out the talentless monkey option)

I know, I mean, the Diwhores wont like it, but for people who actually know fashion, seeing the things from the runway would be so great. It would probably remove some of the "sell-out" feelings some poeple feel towards Galliano.

I only thought after posting this , ' What about LVMH's GIVENCHY ?

Where does this house fit into the pattern of the conglomerate's strategy ?

It COULD be so relevant , but lies in the doldrums - perhaps we will see a revival of a truly French house , after , of course LVMH has finally finished the ' Diorisation ' of FENDI , which might mean the exit of Kaiser Karl ( hence all the fuss about the H&M deal on his part !!! ) . B)

Just a thought !!! :innocent:

Softy's ideal work place: WOmen and Gay men only?! haha  maybe st8 guys could be the minority... hmmm

Galliano's main goal at Dior was to generate profit and modernize the image and he was successful at that. He is great at what he does best-make headlines. All the stupid Dior golf and surf collection is just another way to make money. Dior needs its own logo golf clubs to beat Gucci erasers and Chanel ski masks. It's all a marketing stradegy. When you look at it, you can see Dior has three levels of customer:
1. Rich/Sophisticated ladies who order from the couture line
2. Fashionistas who buy accesories and trendy clothes from the runway
3. Trashy gold diggers , Diwhores and teenagers who only like logos
I don't really care for all the idiotic golf/surf/logo collection. I simply admire Galliano for creating amazing runway shows featuring out-of-the-world clothes and crazy makeups. I respect his artistic vision and showmanship.
