So it makes sense because they said that’s the direction they wanted to take with Sabato and that it was like the first chapter of a new era…

MGC or Hedi would’ve been their own era and their own chapter.

Sabato was a great filler designer IMO. They should’ve advertised him as a Virginie filler and people would’ve responded better. His clothes are great filler since they mesh all Gucci looks into one and throw the logo on it.

The way they treated SDS was very jilted lover …
Gucci moved on and lavished their next partner to make AM jealous … SDS then ends up surreptitiously gone too…. Very Toxic.

I need to go and look at TF Gucci it’s been so long I really don’t remember much …

I think it’s because Tom himself took all those GG icons for his own label. The white belted gown, silk blouse, velvet tuxedo, string thongs are all TF codes.

for sure. and that's why THAT Gucci is memorable and desirable, still.

If they will find strength to go down that route with whoever comes to the brand as a CD it perhaps will be a good start

i agree. letting him go THIS soon was a huge risk. Consumers might 'have accepted' his work eventually and now they will have a 360 turnaround again.. crazy.

Under Michele, Gucci has become known it's utopian gender-fluid maximalism, reviving itself from the bourgeoise of Giannini and seducing a younger, diverse customer, but in recent years, sales seem to be slowing down as Michele was unable to reinvent himself to suit the shift Zeitgeist. In light of the announcement of Alessandro Michele's departure from Gucci, let's discuss who do you think should replace him.

Personally, I'd prefer someone who can keep that gender-fluidity, but wrap it in a more chic, grown-up package. Here are my ideas:

Bruno Sialelli
He has a similar aesthetic to Michele, but it's more refined and put together, something that Gucci really needs right now. His menswear needs work though.

Haider Ackermann
He's like Sialelli, but he knows how to dress grownups and has S-tier technical skills. His approach to gender-fluidity seems more sophisticated and approachable too (not overly masculine on women, not overly feminine on men). Also his links to Timothée seem to be more than Harry at the moment. That said, I'd rather have him relaunch à la Theyskens.

Riccardo Tisci
Tisci could do wonders for a house like Gucci with his background in both streetwear and couture. His more traditionally masculine approach to menswear could bring back the male clientele, who were alienated by Michele. However, I'm wary of how he'll approach the Gucci stripes (the Burberry check traumatised me).

Alessandro dell'Acqua
I consider Nº21 to be the best example of a independent modern-day fashion label and he did wonders at third-generation Rochas, so I believe he could do that on a larger scale. His menswear is meh though...

Charaf Tajer
While he claims to want of becomes the "Hermès/Louis Vuitton of his generation", Gucci could take advantage of the potential of having their own (probably more sincere) version of Virgil's Louis Vuitton if done right. Like Tisci, he can re-attract those male customers.

The one that has the most passion & imagination vision guaranteed!

If Ackermann's debut is a flop (heaven forbid), Gucci could be ripe for a Ford-era revival. Bring on Peter Hawkings or poach any of the TF design team and write them a whole comeback backstory a la Chemena, while the merchandisers peddle velvet suits, silk blouses and crocodile leather bombers en masse.

I'm 50/50. It's obvious that between the apathy of the press and the dropping sales that Sabato had to go, but now they're in this limbo again. If the revival is a success, it buys Kering a few more years to finally put their act together. If it fails, we'll have to brace ourselves for an Elon Musk-owned Gucci with Phillip Plein as CD and Resort shows in the Trump Tower.

Thinking about how Haider is going to Tom Ford but the next-in-line at Miu Miu is Gucci is everything wrong with these hirings. Haider would have been perfect and it's not like he wasn't available, waiting at Canada Goose lol. There is absolutely no strategy, it's about who is available and cheap with these CEOs.

I think Dario would fit in both, given his level of professionalism. He will certainly bring that va va voom to either and will stick to storytelling at least

hard to tell what his contribution will be as miu miu is run by each stylist period and fabio was there as well a big voice beside Miuccia ..the teams bring ideas of course as well etc

if i had to advice a fund/investor or a bank i would be light optimistic now :-)
