REally nice jacket but when it gets really cold i need to cover my bum too. shorty jackets don't cut it when cycling in scandinavian winters. you get cold kidneys.

The coldest it ever got here was maybe mid-30s to lower-40s (F) and I only go out when I have morning classes, so I don't really care how I look at that point: knee socks, high boots, long pants, puffy jacket, scarf, gloves, sometimes even hat!

I'm going to be such a baby when I move to NYC...

cashmere socks! boots. lots of layers - think cashmere again! tights under jeans, fur if yr not affiliated w/PETA and if you are, a good, long wool coat, scarf and hat. personally i take my cold weather fashion tips from the siberians! having grown up in south africa, my thin blood turned to ice water until i discovered my mother and grandmother's furs!

Where do you get that from and what kind? Aren't they usually polyester?

I bought mine at H&M last year. It's double layerd. One layer 100% Polyamide. Lining 100% Polyester. It looks a bit like a petticoat and it's really really warming!!!

The coldest it really gets in NZ (my part at least...) is -4 C or something- most winter days are probably between 0 and 5C. I only ever have to wear a thermal, l/s tee, regular tee and blazer, with 2 pair of long socks and jeans, maybe legwarmers and scarf. I hate winter, Spring and Autumn are my favourite seasons, Summer's too hot.

Winter essentials

Although Spring will soon be starting, I live in a climate that is pretty much "winter" all year round. What are some winter essentials that I should have in my closet for those cold, rainy days?! thanks!

Here in Seattle winters aren't bone-chillingly cold, but it is wet and cool for months on end. I find boots, tights, cashmere sweaters and silk shells keep me snug. A full-length wool gabardine trench coat keeps me dry. Pasminas make wonderfully warm and soft scarves. I'm a big fan of hats, also. They keep you warm and protect your head from light rain or snow, if you don't feel like carrying an umbrella.

When you want it to be spring, but the weather just isn't cooperating, I like to wear warm clothes in lighter colors. Pastel-colored cashmere is pretty easy to come by; and I have boots in a distressed, subtle metallic that seem lighter than they actually are.

2. Wellingtons if you're "cutesy" and young enough to wear them
3. Flannel lined jeans and khakis (www.jcrew.com for some inexpensive ones)
4. Cashmere or fur-lined leather gloves
5. Thin silk thermals!

I live in London so you need a good brolly, knee high boots (at least one pair) a few knee length or calf length skirts in black, brown or grey. Lots of sweaters - but light ones - as layering is the key.b Jeans and wool trousers are also must haves. a good coat or two in wool or cashmere is also fab

Winter fashion in London

Hi I'm supposed to be going to London for a few days in December with my boyfriend and I know its going to be freezing but I want to look smart and stylish while I'm there. I want to try and pack lightly in case I shop while I'm there not much chance I won't really. Anyway and ideas of what would be good to wear there will be really great. Thanks

Well, I go to uni in england...and what i normally wear during winter is a nice warm coat, jeans tucked into boots, scarf, etc. A down parka is also always a good idea as it rains a lot too. Also, a lot of black, grey, etc...Londoners wear a LOT of black.

i go to uni in london so bring chunky knits, grey skinny jeans, black equestrian boots, long black princess coat and a plaid scarf is a starting point, so build around this. grey is hot this winter so most londoners will be swapping black for grey, though black is very practical for a girl about town. London is very dressy-casual.

its not following trends because that is something i was wearing last winter about town. its a casual outfit and that basic outfit can be matched with so many different things to create so many different looks.

I've never had to endure a cold winter in my life! This year I'm missing out on our Aussie Summer to visit Europe in Winter, and I have no idea what to expect in terms of how cold it will be and what to wear! What would you suggest? This is my packing list so far...
- fold-up umbrella, waterproof overjacket
- scarf and a beanie, lined leather gloves
- thermal undertop and pants
- 2 pairs of jeans
- flannel pajamas and bed socks
- 2 long-sleeve cotton tops and 2 knits
- black winter coat
- 2 pairs of boots (black + cream)

Also is it possible to wear skirts with stockings underneath? Would I freeze my *** off?
