Drinking

SiennaInLondon said:
Drinking? Just dont do it, just dont start. I have never seen the point. The way the English drink is horrible. At university, perfectly intelligent people start acting like total total ******* or depressive weirdos and I dont understand why they would want to be like that. I would sooner take hard drugs because there is an experience, and it is a one off. Drinking becomes a mindless everyday thing. So incredibly common. The only time I have drunk is when I mistook a bucks fizz for an orange juice at my friends bat-mitzvah once, years ago

It IS possible to have a couple of drinks without turning into a "total ******' or "weirdo". People who turn into that after a few drinks are weird to begin with, whether they're high school drop outs or university professors (yes they do get drunk too - I've seen it!! :D).
Everything (almost) in moderation is my motto!
Though I do have to admit it is much easier to stay in shape without the alcohol. No crazy cravings for pizza or poutine (you Quebecers and Eastern Ontarians know what I'm talking about!! :D) at 3am. Plus less calories from not drinking to begin with.

i think getting drunk is a state of mind as well as the alcohol.

My best friend and I can both drink the same thing which is usually about 2litres of champagne and she always ends up more drunk and either passes out or has a really bad hangover and i always remember the night and dont get a hang over... Other times she would hardly have anything but still gets as drunk... so i think she chooses to switch off and get drunk.. does anyone know what i mean?

i'm staying off the alcohol a bit these days because i play soccer on sunday mornings and I would be fine drinking but these days i smoke when i drink alot and my lungs die in the first couple of minutes of soccer lol

But other than peer pressure and socialising, what are the benefits? What is wrong with a simple juice (well other than the calories!)? And the thing is, I hang out in a very music orientated scene in London but I still manage to survive. If you dont become weird or depressed or angry, you sure as hell get hyper. Mind you, at university, there are proper alkis happening so they are what I see.

I used to drink when I was in highschool. I remember that I got
drunk very quickly. I think me being asian may have something
to it. I know, that asian people lack certain enzymes in their
body to digest alcohol. I know that my cheeks get flushed like
they have been sun burned, which can tell you how my body
reacts to alcohol. I've had two mishaps with drinking, (lack of judgement)
sent to the emergency room twice, almost died twice. I don't drink
anymore. Just the smell of alcohol makes me:sick:

^I think it is lucky that the Asian body doesn't tolerate alcohol. That way you never get fooled and ************* slowly over decades. Same with Asians being lactose intolerant. Milk is another no no in the human diet I believe.

^ lol...yes yes, dairy products too....

Sometimes cheese, but then I get all gasy and constipated like....
But I don't get  like my sister does.....she will NOT touch any dairy!

this explains so much! i'm adopted but the general consensus is that i am probably 1/4 asian, so maybe that's why i can't handle much alcohol.

I don't get hyper either. It just sounded like you're a bit judgmental. NOTHING wrong with an adult having a couple of drinks on the weekend.
The benefit is that I like it. I don't need any other reasons. At 26 I don't even know the meaning of peer pressure and I socialize fine without it too  I just happen to like it sometimes.

Really? Never knew that. I'm 100% Asian and I have high tolerance for alcohol and I'm not lactose intolerant. :ninja:

^ well maybe you are a weirdo  a freak of nature perhaps
just joking luv ^_^

I drink. And just turning 21 out here doesn't help with that, lol. My hangovers vary. Sometimes I have them and sometimes not. It really depends on the night. But drinking a bottle of water before bed really helps.

I have never got drunk in my life.. maybe a little buzzed but no vomitting and such.

what? I'm asian and also a girl... yet I can manage to out drink some of my most biggest guy friends. Not trying to brag or anything
I swear I don't drink that often though. haha

hmm.. perhaps generally asian girls don't tolerate alchol, but in the end it's very individual thing

i have one drink and im gone:blush:

the very first time i drank, i wanted too keep up with everyone(not knowing how it would react to my body), i had about 9 standard drinks.... aparently i almost died of alcohol poisioning............ i dont know if this is true but the girl who said this, her mum was looking after me and is a nurse.

anyway it was a horrible expirience, i dont even rember the nght except the beggining, and when i woke up i felt as if i had been run over by 10 busses.

now i rarely drink. i have lerant my lesson. i when i do drink, its slowly sipping on the same drink for the whole night, and i still get tippsy.

i think there is something wrong with me.

I got so drunk tuesday night and puked everything right after kissing my dream guy
