Yeah..I really appreciate all of the pictures you posted. We've got to keep this a picture -fashion thread but with Edie and some others there are only so many pictures. You know Gerard has a whole collection of pictures he will not release.I hope one day he'll decide to show them somewhere. He was a constant with her and took photos ALWAYS!

ciao! manhattan

you can get the dvd of ciao!manhattan, edies last movie from amazon.com

the colour footage is really sad/disturbing (though she still looks beautiful), but the b/w footage shows edie at her prime, and wearing the best clothes!

How was it sad and disturbing? What happened?

Because she's so out of it. She's falling over and saying things that don't make any sense like that imaginary phone conversation. It's all acted out but the thought of it is still sad.

also, if you read the Edie book and listen to the Director's commentary certain things (like having electro shock therapy) were things that were really going on at the time...though acted out in the film

From nytimes.com (both text and picture)

After several seasons of faux bohemia, designers from Alexander McQueen to Dolce & Gabbana have reworked the coltish silhouettes of the 1960's for their fall collections. The results show the unmistakable influence of two youthful stars: the drug-addled ingenue Edie Sedgwick and the model Jean Shrimpton. Which of these two 60's style icons are you? IAIN R. WEBB

ooh wow thanks for new pics!

I have been a little confused about Edie's "style" though. I know enought about her attitude and persona, and what made her a good muse, but I'm not entirely sure what were the repeat items in her wardrobe-can someone help me compile a list here? So far I have,

-stripes
-black tights
-shiny tops (if you look in her bio, she's wearing golden shimmer daywear)
-fur (ostrich plumed capes, monkey fur)
-big (huge) earrings
-kenneth jay lane jewellery
-peacock earrings

....what else can we add??

my post is a little after-the-fact but she wore a lot of hats too. sorry if i get my hat names wrong but the po' boy and that little mod cap with the tiny brim. and goggles! that girl wore alot of huge goggles often on her head, and sometimes i think 2 pairs at once. she was very space-age in a lot of ways. and she would wear just shirts with tights and sort of short-shorts but more like panties. also ballet flats. or at least flats.

in the ciao! manhatten book about her i think, there are some really really good clothing descriptions and descriptions of clothing/party moments like when she was at some opening, she climbed these stairs above the party and slowly unfurled her insanely long sleeve of her dress into the crowd. and people called out "edie!" sort of thing. she also talks about how she wore too much makeup because she thinks she didn't think she was beautiful at the time.

the ciao! manhatten movie is really incredible. that black and white footage is real and deeply tripped out. it will take you to that time and really give you a feeling of it.

when i was growing up [not in the 60s but the 80s/90s] my friends and i worshipped her and dressed like her. the miniskirts and goggles etc. we had it down.
