not a wig, just some extreme teasing/backcombing, smooth overed with a boar bristled brush or comb, lots of hairspray, tons of peroxide-easy to do!

Oh but she did wear hairpieces and fake ponytails in the colored footage of CIAO MANHATTAN!

In these pictures, did she wear a wig or did she make her hair like that? Anyone who knows?

Happy belated Halloween! I hope everyone had a wonderful, safe celebration!! I finally remembered to find out about the sets in Los Angeles - sorry it took me sooooooooooooooo long to post this. The color footage for Ciao was shot in two places - the swimming pool was at the old Baldwin estate in Arcadia, which no longer exists since it was completely torn down. There are some walls and old entrances including an entrance that was used in Ciao, but that's about it. The interior scenes were shot at a house in a gated community on Fremont Place, around Rossmore. It's not open to the public. :(

Thank you Liberty Bell! Too bad it's torn down i really wanted to go there :( it looks so pretty! I'm glad you're posting again, i wanted to ask you if the ranch did okay in the fires? I wasn't sure where in Santa Barara they we're...i hope so!

WOW IN THAT FIRST PIC SHE LOOKS JUST LIKE JENNIFER GARNER, EXCEPT PRETTIER BUT THE LIPS, DIMPLES AND SMILE ARE UNDENIABLE. What are those things on her neck-a weird necklace or earrings?-looks very interesting, so ahead of her time...
omg you guys TRIPLE POST! Sorry about that

Thanks, Babydoll1125! There was a small fire way up at the top of the ranch that burned about 750 acres. The firefighters put it out very short order! Fire fighters are gods, I think. B) They called it the Sedgwick Fire in the news. It was on October 22 or so. Fortunately, no one was injured except a few ground squirrels.

Does anyone know who the beautiful brunette on the far left of this picture is? Talitha Getty or someone of the like??

Tagging is when a name is written across a photo to make it harder to use if someone wanted to profit off the photo.

Corbis did it on this photo.

Liberty Bell,

Were any of what was left of her jewelry, clothes and other belongings of hers kept within the family? Did you inherit any of her things? Was anything salvaged? I know a lot of her nice things were stolen out her apartments in New York like her furs and such. What happened to all her things when she passed?

The American Apparel promotion is bizarre.

Thanks Liberty Bell for finding out about the Ciao sets. I was wondering about the Sedgwick ranch when I hear about the fires. They looked terrifying.

I don't think a colored version of this above pic has been posted yet. If so, sorry about that. Edie's 21st Birthday.

Didn't she have her appendix removed? I believe the scar can be seen here on the right of her pelvis.

ediecrop2.jpg

I know this one has been posted. This must have taken within days of one of her apartment fires as her hand still has the bandage for her burns.

Were her pelvic scar, knee scar and the scar between her eyes all the results of her car accidents? I cannot remember.

Image sources: Scanned from the book, Edie: Girl on Fire

Thanks for the photos, Opaline.
You are observant! It looks like the scar is in the right place to be from an [SIZE=-1]appendicectomy. Apparently the scar between her eyes was from her car accident but I can't recall reading about her knee?

Thank you for the information about the fire! I'm glad they put it out in time!

Internation Velvet.

The scar on her knee was from the car accident as well as the one inbetween her eyebrows. They talk about her wearing a cast on her leg in the Edie book.

opaline - We kept her artwork (paintings and sculpture), except the pencil drawings which were given to Michael Post by my mother and grandmother after Edie died. Her belongings that were left at the ranch were given away. I don't know what Michael did with the stuff that was at their apartment - I doubt he kept anything except the drawings but I'll ask him when the opportunity arises. I have a few things that Edie made, and one ring that she left to me. Her death was terribly bewildering and a horrible shock for us - except for her artwork, her belongings were unimportant at the time.

Oh one more thing - Edie never had an appendectomy. That's just a shadow in the picture.

Liberty Bell,
Thank you so much for sharing your memories of Edie and clarifying information about her. Sometimes, I go through periods of sadness when I think about how much she was taken advantage of and exploited by the whole Warholian scene. She was so much more intelligent than probably all of them. Her style was all her own. I get a feeling that Andy was jealous of her beauty, honesty and natural intelligence. She was such a beautiful person inside and out. It's undeniable. She radiates a beauty and intelligence beyond this world and I hope that her spirit is happy and free wherever she may be.

She certainly was well-spoken and expressive, but I never really considered her to be notably intelligent. Or honest. She used people just like people used her. Also, don't forget that the Factory brought in a lot of creative and brilliant people--writers, filmmakers, poets, artists, musicians, etc.

Well, that's the way I see things.

How dare you say she used people...

I don't agree, most interviews from her close friends from college and such have praised her for her intelligence and her talent as being a great conversationalist on everything from books, art, and her knowledge of various cultures from around the globe. I don't believe she used anyone. She came to Manhattan to express herself because she came from such a repressed and strict background-all of the sudden she had the freedom to express herself. Andy Warhol approached her. She was already a socialite with many friends and she always had great style. She spray-painted her hair silver and Andy copied her and took the credit of that idea as his own. Edie loved art and the projects in which she collaborated with Warhol were for the artistic elements and of course for the possibility that it might bring attention from real film studios as she was very interested in becoming a serious actress at one point. If you read the biography about Kenneth Anger, you will get a rather graphic explanation on just how insane the whole Warhol scene was. We all know that there was an exorbitant amount of drug use--but it was actually way crazier than anything you've read from any Edie or Andy book. Edie never used Warhol. Warhol was in love with her in a way that if one could wish to be anybody else on the planet, Andy would choose to be her. Things fell apart of course as she ran out of money and could no longer afford Warhol and his entourages tabs at The Ritz and the drug use began spiraling out of control as I'm positive Edie was devastated when Andy just decided to ignore her completely because she had nothing to offer him anymore (and what he was after was money, adoration and worship.) There are allegations that Edie would be passed out in one of her Manhattan apartments and junk or speed dealers would let themselves in and r*pe her while she was unconscious and leave her fix at the bedside while taking some of her jewelry and furs on the way out. As I stated earlier, Edie used to pay the tabs on extravagant meals at The Ritz with Warhol and the rest of his hangers-on on a near nightly basis ....as soon as her inheritance ran out-Andy basically ignored her and refused to pay her the money he promised her for participating in his "films." How would you feel if you were in Edie's position, I'm sure she figured out pretty quickly that most of Warhol's films were exploitation films-to exploit that of a beautiful heiress nearly nude, drugged up and confused--he exploited the transexual Candy Darling with his grotesque and boring portraits of real people that he thought bizarre and interesting enough to exploit. Edie and Andy were best friends for a few years and she supported him financially and he'd feed her drugs (not that she didn't do drugs on her own accord)-but it's easy to trick junkies and Edie was only useful to Andy for money, exploitation and as arm candy (a beautiful escort as she was all personality and he had NO PERSONALITY.) Edie didn't need to use anybody, she had everything going for her, there were a lot of gorgeous Warhol scenesters that never got recognition like Edie and you want to know why? Because she was highly intelligent, magnetic, warm and I believe her falling so wrecklessy into drugs is because she was very depressed about Fuzzy and her brother who ending their lives within the same year. She seemed very much to want to please and impress Fuzzy-but I never think he ever told her she had artistic talent (which she remarkably did.) Plus the passing of her two brothers pushed her further into drug addiction. All Edie wanted was to be loved. There were few friends that truly loved her and took care of her when they were able to and then there were people like Andy encouraging drug use to make his scene appear exciting all the while he never took any major drugs but just acted as a voyeur in watching all of these beautiful young people destroying themselves on speed benders. I think it very rude for you to say Edie used people. If she wanted drugs, she never stole them--she went to the extent of degrading herself at times to score drugs--but she never used anyone for fame or anything else. She was featured in Voque as a sixties youth quaker because Diana Vreeland called her up personally and asked her to do a short interview and pictorial because Diana Vreeland was a genius and heard of Edie's unique style, lineage and extreme beauty. AND THAT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH WARHOL.

I agree that Edie was very intelligent but Warhol didn't make her do drugs. He may have had friends that did drugs and that introduced her to them but he never made her do them. Also, Andy didn't have enough money to pay Edie and from what i understand she didn't care about not being paid for her work because she was just doing it for fun. But, when her inheritance ran out she needed money and he couldn't pay her so they parted ways. There may have been tension between them but not as much as people think. I mean, if she hated him and he ruined her life then why didn she send him a such a nice card when he was shot? And i don't think it was that important to her to impress her dad because when he disapproved of her lifestyle in New York she didn't change a bit. And i don't think that Edie needed to use people for much but i'm almost positive that when she was heavily into drugs she used people to score because that's a trait of almost all drug addicts.

^ Woo!! That apartment thing is adorable!
About the Warhol vs. Edie vs. Drug use thing, I was always lead to believe that was false.
The movie really hyped up Andy as a reason behind Edie's death, but that's not really the case ( as far as I'm aware.)
As much as I love and adore Edie, I'm not delusional. She wasn't some sweet little angel who was abused by a bunch of hipsters for her money and led, defenseless, into drug addiction.
The Factory was a world of amazing people, but of no angels I'm afraid.
Love to hear from Liberty Bell on the subject though, of course.

I've watched factory girl about a billion times, and I don't that it made Andy out to be the reason she did drugs and/or died... In the movie she did a 'poke' at the party and then all of a sudden drugs were everywhere...

In the movie, Andy just didn't really seem to care about Edie's death. :-p Im not nearly as familiar with Edie as most of you in this thread, and Im not going to pretend to be, but drug use and addictions totally change people. Obviously.
