Dior and Chanel use lots of Edie inspired make-up...love it but its a bit overdone by now

I don't think Edie invented that look with the eye make-up. Models were doing that years before Edie came along.

wow! that is some seriously good makeup! i feel twiggy did her makeup like edie's, too. it was just the era, love it. the 50s housewives all love that dark shadow lining the upper lid. i love that look.

French Cruller those pics of that girl you posted could past as Edies sister or something!!! Their both so beautiful.

You're right, people in the late 20's started drawing lines on their eyelids and eyelashes. It was wayyyyy before Edie Sedgwick.

Edie began wearing very provocative clothes and makeup in NY in 1964. This was before she became famous and appeared in magazines and movies. The only girls you saw made up that way was in fashion magazines, but her creativity made it unique to her. It didn't matter where or who it began with but she was the one who made it iconic. Dior did a tribute to her a few years ago, with that same crappy makeup by Pat Mcgrath, it was a nice tribute, but it looked nothing like Edie.

IMO I feel that Edie didn't try to copy anyone, the eye makeup she did on herself was kind of an art statement.

I'd say Twiggy was really the one who made it iconic. Edie was semi-famous for less than a year & mostly only in New York, while as Twiggy was world famous.

Vogue Editor Gloria Schiff: "We had an idea what we wanted to do with her [Edie]. I knew we wanted to put black lingerie on her and that she would be terrific; she was so blonde and pale and light. Her hair was a bit of a problem because she hadn't done very much with it. Her hair was not in what is called 'first-rate' condition. Fortunately, this charming little hairdresser called Ingrid from Kenneth's brought some hairpieces. Since the phtos were black and white, there was no problem matching the hair and the wilder and the larger the hairpieces Ingrid put on, the smaller and more beautiful Edie's face became - like a little bird's. Her eyes were black, like a snake's. She was unbelievably appealing and photogenic. We put some blush on her and lots of mascara and gloss on the lips to give them some life, and the rest was all her. She was an enchanting, remarkable creature of the moment. "

Yeah I know, but she had it made for mer, Edie did it all herself. ^_^

I agree. as much as I love edie, twiggy represents the 60s in a more universal way

Edie was very different from everyone else at that time though. It was her whole look that mad her famous not just her make up. She took the mod look and did something a little bit different, she put different looks together to create a whole new look. And then on top of that she had unusual hair and unusual friends which made her stand out even more. Technically, you could say that flappers started the super short dress/shirt look and ancient Egyptians were the first to draw dark lines on their eyelids but you could say that about any style. It all has to start somewhere but it's what people to do improve and bring something new to it that makes them stand out.

I never liked Twiggy and have never looked at Edie and thought Twiggy.

Also,well said babydoll1125:flower:

You are very welcome loonaka

I agree with you babydoll Edie may have not started all those trends, but she took a look and made it her own.....She is an original...no matter how you "look" at it:D
