she can barely even speak. she's trying so hard to even remember things. it's a bit creepy.

^^ Yes they didn't make implant shells back then but directly injected industrial grade silicone directly into the breast tissue. The silicone would harden and become like concrete, Marilyn Monroe had silicone injected into her breasts and at the end of her life the physical pain became unbearable. There was no easy way to remove it without seriously injuring her chest cavity.

yikes about the breast implant info. scary stuff. i would never wanna **** with myself like that.
but on another note, i was watching the doors and i got really excited that "edie" was in it, the woman who played her was so adorable, i love how he just walked right up to her and starting making out with her, and i love their vision of andy warhol, he was so... awkward and creepy, but i loved andy talking about how edie gave him the phone so he could talk to god, but andy just.. didn't have anything to say! haha. edie was crazy, i love her.

I don't know how many of you have listened to the CD that comes with "Girl on Fire" book? It is called "Edie Speaks" and it is tapes that Edie and David Weisman made while preparing for the color shoot of "Ciao Manhattan". She doesn't sound bad at all...she talks and talks away like a person reflecting on their life. It is just FABULOUS and if you haven't heard it, you should try to find it.:D

Remember, Susan Superstar was a role, Edie was not being herself but playing a part based on herself....don't feel too sorry for her. I think she was more "there" than we know.;)

^I agree, she was, if you watched the audio commentary to Ciao! you know that. They said that she was involved in every desicion made about the movie and that she was being herself + acting at the same time! And that Audio CD is really the best you can find about Edie!

Ehm.. I actually don't think she was acting her as*s off...everybody know that they had problems with her on the set under Ciao

I agree with the fact that it seems she was acting more than just lazily rambling about. David Weisman said that the only time she really rambled was about her father molesting her. Just because there may or may not have been problems with her doesn't mean that she wasn't acting - the part wasn't even written for her, it was originally supposed to be Susan Bottomly ("International Velvet"). And I agree about the tapes, she sounds much more cohesive and cognizant...like someone musing and reflecting on their life than in the movie.

PS - From what I understand that Doors movie is terribly inaccurate; I don't know much about The Doors but I remember in the movie they list him as going to the Factory in '67 or '68 when Edie wouldn't have been hanging around with Andy.

This comment was posted on this thread responding to a quote from Ondine saying that he thought "Ciao" had something to do with Edie's untimely death."I believe that Edie's life was sustained and lengthened by her collaberative work with all the filmmakers and photographers she knew. Her living work gave her meaning and means of expression, a creative outlet for her wild streak." -Leila M Dwight (aka Liberty Bell)

I think David Weisman also said that she started to act up on the set of "Ciao" because she didn't want it to end.

I (personally) just don't like feeling sorry for Edie. She had an amazing short life, filled with ups and downs.:D

interesting. MEDIA AND MOVIES ARE RUINING PEOPLES LIVES. haha.

she was only in the doors for a quick second, but it was interesting just seeing her in another movie. i want to see her in the bob dylan movie. although i'm scared because i'm not a michelle fan. =/

I just heard about Michelle Williams playing Edie in "I'm Not There"......is she a main part in the movie???? Does any one have pics of Michelle as Edie???

I am sick of Sienna being the only actress associated with Edie....I still have NOT seen that movie.

She had a pretty small part in 'I'm not there' - only two scenes, I think.

Edie was fragile when she made Ciao Manhattan, she was more desperate for attention and vulnerable than manipulating the makers of that film. She was tragic and "acting the part of the victim" which wasn't difficult to do. As for the part she was in control who in the end made money off this it sure wasn't her? Part of acting is letting go and having a "I don't give a damn" quality which she definitely displayed, but to say she manipulated them when she didn't get much out of it and had to die for it to become a cult film is faulty logic.

How could Edie get royalties from a film that came out after she died? I think that David Weisman & Co gave Edie some happy times before she passed. I bet Edie was really happy to know that someone from New York still cared she was alive after all that time. And wasn't she off of drugs when they filmed the color scenes? So it's not like she was out of it and being taken advantage of, she knew what she was doing. When people do drugs for that long they have PBD and will forever be a little slow.

I don't think Edie was used and abused by the makers of Ciao! Manhattan. They really didn't profit from her death because the film didn't make oodles of money, plus a film is suppose to be released. She might have been used and abused by Andy to an extent, but I think for the most part, Edie made her own choices and burned her own bridges.

I think she was on drugs during the making of Ciao! so it's kind of hard to know if she actually knew she was sort of a tragic figure at that point and just didn't care or if people were using and exploiting her without her realizing it. I kind of think it was a combination of both.

I don't know, I think the whole thing is kind of tragic and even though I love seeing new footage of her and new pictures, the people who own some of that stuff seem to have agendas that might not be so pure. I'm pretty sure that she'd love the attention though. I think she'd be thrilled to know people were still fascinated by her and her life after all these years.

^ She was on a whole bunch of pharmaceutical drugs when she made that movie, she had an entire tray of stuff that she would take to start her day.

I really love how Edie could wear fishnets and a minidress without looking cheap and whorish..
