Besides, the designers you mentioned got panned by critics, but editors still pulled the clothes to be photographed and retailers still sold the collections. This collection doesn't seem to have strong support from any end.
To me the buyer's perspective is the most telling one in this case, because if they saw any value, quality or appeal in the clothes they'd likely be selling it. I'm guessing that quality must have been an issue, in addition to the aesthetics. I mean, that $6,000 pink mini dress looks badly made in a photo...I can't imagine it looking better up close and inside out.
