Except I think people who are so quick to criticize this effort forget a few things
1. Emmy started off as a choral singer with the Children's Chorus at the Metropolitan Opera. She continues to study with Elena Doria, the director of the Children's Chorus who was also her vocal coach on Phantom. She got into film when she appeared in Songcatcher (she studied country ballads with Sheila Kay Adams for that role) so this is actually a return to music for her. She's more of a singer turned actress turned singer
2. Most of Emmy's fans are familiar with her because of her starring role in The Phantom of the Opera- a role that was almost entirely sung. So some people out there essentially became a fan because of her singing as opposed to her acting
3. Emmy wrote the music and lyrics herself as opposed to Hilary Duff, Lindsey Lohan, Paris Hilton etc who all sing the work of others. Doesn't she have the right to say what she was thinking when she wrote the song considering it is her work? No it's not groundbreaking or brilliant but it comes from a writer barely out of her teens and it's geared toward a teenage fanbase. Considering both factors it's impressive that it's not totally manufactured bubblegum pop
I think Emmy has a goody-goody quality that turns some people off, and some people aren't into Enya-y, Imogean Heap inspired, ambient music. That's fair and those people probably won't buy the album. But personally I think that based on the clips it sounds better than a lot of the crap that's out there and I'd be less embarassed to buy it than some other things.
