Excuse my ignorance, but how do look books work in the fashion industry? Are they out before the designers start working on their collections so they get inspired by these books? Or are they a summary/interpretation of the season's trends...

melt, obviously trend books ARE out before the industry starts even picking on next seasons fabrics.. (biggest fabric show for fw06.07 season is on at the end of next week in Paris) but its really a mass market, not a 'designer' level 'trend tool'.

it's true that some designers (of the medium artistic range) consult the trend books before even start working on their collections, but it's not a clever thing to do since this type of trend info is been created for the mass market industry and will obviously be worked to death by 'high street' labels

everyone who is big enough in the industry works with trend consulting books
(too expensive for non professionals to invest in)

and all are welcome, i used to get "promostyle" book, but now i only get "peclers", it has more connection with designers collection than the other, and it`s better than promostyle.
