Top Ten Favorite Collections Of All Time

Oh, and I absolutely agree about those Dior Homme 70ies heel boots, they are great, although I´d possibly go for the patent leather ones instead, I just thought the metallics were nicer at Helmut´s last season  ... anyway, a very outstanding, yet comfortable shoe to wear!

Hussein Chalayan F/W 2000

this collection made me interested in what fashion could be --beautiful, innovative, and moving. it's probably what motivated me to become interested in industrial design.

Victor and Rolf F/W 2003

After viewing this collection I couldn't stop thinking of making garments move and act like mechanical parts, but done in a way so it was very organic. i liked the idea of being able to pull on a collar and through this simple gesture entire new outfits would emerge and unfold --so much so i actually had to try my hand at making a telescoping sleeve.

Junya Watanabe F/W 2000

this is an origami dream. the second dress kills me--is it a painting/ or is it fabric?? it is a preview to what this man is capable of achieving...

Yohji Yamamoto S/S 1999

if i had a big wedding this would be it. every piece embodied beauty and soul, and became an active participant in this larger ritual.

Issey Miyake S/S 99

A-POC custom-made clothing, eliminating traditional production methods (sewing machines) and waste--a taste of the future of fashion.

I almost forgot this one. I would tie this one at Nº5 as it's one of my most favorites from Tess...and one of my most favorites period.

travolta, because they could almost be mine but you really put it beautifully:heart:

and scott, because you always make me see things that i hadn't known and that speak to me immediately, thanks!

Fashion seems to give people short memories...favourite women's collections:

Lanvin SS '92 Haute Couture by Claude Montana

Yves Saint Laurent FW '66 Haute Couture featuring 'le smoking'...

Anne Demeulemeester FW '05

Alexander McQueen, pick one really...

Comme des Garcons, again just pick one, there are quite a few...

travolta, love your top, very wise and beautiful. that junya collection has the privileged place on my top:P

love yours, mulletproof. that willhelm dinosaur dress!!

i can only comment on other people today:blush:

5) Chloe s/s 00. The collection really defined what Stella at Chloe was about, femininity with a twist. It featured floaty chiffon dresses, strippers embroidered onto tops, crystal chains, and masculine suiting all wrapped up in the quirky rock and roll attitude that Stella was so good at creating.

00039.L.JPG

4) Christian Dior HC s/s 97. Galliano's debut at Dior was everything people expect from Galliano. It had the drama, the detail, the mix of different times and cultures.....and for the most part it was pretty wearable, for that income tax bracket anyway.
00007.L.JPG

3) Alexander McQueen s/s 2004. McQueen at his creative best, this show was a perfect compromise between his fantasy and fashion reality. The clothes were a glamourous ode to the dance halls of the 30's, the presentation a sinister portrayal of the dance marathons of the era and the social class system. It had everything, beautiful clothes, entertaining presentation and McQueen's much beloved social commentary.
00034.L.JPG

2) YSL Rive Gauche s/s 2003. It was so brilliant, the contrast of a very feminine silhouette complete with ruffled hems and flowered decolletes with the dark, moody, almost perverse imagery of the pre-war surrealist movement, and it single handedly made the nipple shocking once more...not to mention that it helped start the 40's themed trend that would be huge the next season.
00272.L.JPG

1) Gucci, pretty much any season but f/w 2003 really sticks out in my mind. The clothes were dramatic, strong and sexy as always. But the entire show was so poetic, so beautiful to watch. In a time in the world when people needed some hope and a little bit of fantasy Gucci delivered. The inspiration was perfect (Blade Runner and looking at the past through a futuristic lense), the clothes were perfect (big collars, tight waists, long, narrow legs) the styling, the presentation.....all perfect.

Too bad only 5 period. I could've posted 5 for each designer....

really great chouices Mullet:heart: ^_^

I'm not even going to attempt to answer this:wacko:

thank you. :flower: i just had a conversation w/ a friend last nite and he's into horticulture/ industrial design/ physics and i asked him what he thought of the junya watanabe pieces (in general). he found them intense --he really related to the experimentation/ aesthetics as a result of function and vice versa. <hope that makes some sense. he and i have the same sensibilites, are attracted to the same things, but come from different backrgounds. for instance, he'll speak about the appreciation for a certain flower, like a dogwood (in general he is attracted to frilly, quirky flowers that have some defect) how its beauty is powerful and melancholy because it blooms and dies.
i suppose i like fashion that is very similar to flowers aesthetically, physically evolving before your eyes, living out it's life cycle practically and metaphorically. the v & r pic above resembles a flower in bloom, and each garment underneth is pushing its way out like petals...for practical purposes each exterior layer must be cast aside to made room for the new one. you can imagine the lapels eventually sagging and wilting away...shriveling up and disintegrating. the junya origami creations is poweful because it can only be that because of it's intricately pleated structure, but yet it is so lighweight...it was probably designed on CAD, but despite this it has very organic qualities. also the yohji wedding dress is like a genetically superior flower because everything it needs is built into it (hat, bouquet etc) it can sustain itself --no frills...but i like how it takes a breath and slowly ritualistically reveals itself. A-POC is another breed in general, because it's defects, flaws, restrictions...such as a sloppy weak stitch binding the garment together..is eliminated and it is stronger structurally. also it is able to sustain itself under several mutuations..for instance you cut it where ever wish and it will not unravel. chalayan is definately dealing with time and physics...the last act is innappropriate for a human body..it is a stark contrast to the opening garments, but it is a juxtaposition --what he is trying to say isn't about comfort...it is about restriction, and what better way to convey that than a telescoping wood dress?

i know there are some older ones, but these are the ones that instantly popped into my mind:

callaghan s/s01...something about this grecian fantasy spoke to me, it was quiet yet loud, soft yet hard...it was here that i really saw what a genius ghesquiere was.

prada f/w 02...the sexy office dominatrix...so many lovely textures (a see through trench!)...so very pretty

i also loved the s/s 03 ysl collection a few people already mentioned...widely criticized by the press, it was a great tribute to surrealism. a brilliant collection imo
