hey all! I went to the Gap that had the line here in Orange County (South Coast Plaza) because I just LOVED the Doo.Ri shirt dress - I've always loved Dior New Look/1950s nipped waist stuff though. Anyway, there was an okay selection left, and I think they may be receiving more - another store's inventory or something, supposedly by tomorrow?
There were no small sizes left in any of the Rodarte items, but that was okay for me - I'm tall/slim but a little busty and super short-waisted, so as soon as I try on anything described as "trapeze," it's tent-city for me and I go from "cute figure" to "hay that girl looks shapeless." I was bummed at first because I was excited to see the Rodarte stuff but to be honest, there was something about it I didn't like. Maybe it was the fact that it was the simple white fabric, but it either looked unfinished or unpolished. The bows looked a little too-too for me, both cutesy and kind of haphazard. Then again, bows are usually not my style.
(I keep typo-ing "boys are usually not my style," and that's not true.)
There were no Thakoon petal dresses left that I could see. I tried on the Doo.Ri shirt dress, the Doo.Ri pleated shirt, and the Thakoon tied shirt dress. If I hadn't been such a dimbulb and had a) read this thread before going and b) paid more attention to clothing on the Vogue cover and not just the models, I might have had more luck. The Thakoon tied shirt dress was really awkward as a dress, but had I been a super stylist (or even just more creative) I probably could have done something interesting with it over a skirt or pants. The Doo.Ri pleated shirt was cute but it was too boxy for someone built like me. I could have tried tucking it in like the model did, but on me it pooched out too much in the back and ended up being too both tailored and shapeless. Kinda awkward. It needs to be shaped more in the back or worn by someone with a different body type.
As it was, I loved the Doo.Ri shirt dress - there were quite a few left in S but no XS. The XS might have been a touch better for me but the S fit in the shoulders so I went with it. It was voluminous like everyone has said but that's rather the point - you have to gather it and belt it very firmly to get that nipped waist/full skirt/blousy look. I'll try and photo it later.
I kind of wish I'd tried on the other Doo.Ri shirt, the scarf one, but I have a feeling the scarf might not have worked for me.
Have to say though, I love all the photos everyone has posted of their purchases. Even though I didn't like some of it in the store or on me, somehow what everyone has bought looks great on them!
I love when that works. It's all about personal style, y'know? I've been spending too much time gazing at The Sartorialist...
